and resident of Des Allemands.

Survived by his wife of 54 years, Marjoie F. Dunn. Sons John "Roscoe" Dunn and 
wife Judy, Errol Dunn and wife Charity. Daughters Debra R. Horn, Cheryl D. 
Clements, Brenda D. Adams and husband Patrick. Brothers Jessie Dunn and John E. 
"T-John" Dunn. Sisters Katherine "Katie" Folse, Mayola Daigle and Loranie Horn. 
Preceded in death by his parents Michael J. and Orelia Bourgeois Dunn. Son Roy

LA. Beloved husband of JoAnn Estay Walker.

Son of the late Howard J. Walker, Sr. and Verlie Richoux. Father of Howard J. 
Walker, III and wife Mona V., Veronica 'Vicki' W. Lewing and husband Gary, 
Johanna W. Herbert. Brother of Faye W. Louque, Catherine W. Dufresne, Dianne W. 
Johnson and the late Walter Walker. 
Also survived by former son-in-law James Hebert. Grandfather of Howard IV, 
Mindy, and Brittany Walker, Amber Rose Boudreaux, Kurt and Paige Hebert. Great 
grandfather of Faith Rose and Christina Michelle Wiltz. Pallbears will be H. J. 
Walker III, H.J. Walker IV, Grant Walsh, Gary Lewing, Kurt Hebert, and Paul 
Rousselle. 

Age 71 years. A native of Norco, LA and resident of Destrehan, LA. Graduate of 
Destrehan High School and attended LSU, majoring in Criminal Justice.

Hazel Bernard Pitts passed away on Monday, December 3, 2007 in Destrehan, LA at 
age 88.

Survived by one son and daughter-in-law John Calecas Jr. and Dorothy Calecas of 
Oklahoma; one daughter and son-in-law Carol Ackerman and Mickey Ackerman of 
Destrehan, LA; three grandchildren Kevin Calecas Sr., Kendra Ackerman, and 
Angela "Annie" Lemoine; four great-grandchildren Kevin Calecas Jr., Kayla 
Calecas, Jonathan Lemoine, and Ashlyn Lemoine. 

Preceded in death by first husband John Calecas Sr.; second husband Sherman 
Pitts; two brothers; three sisters; and granddaughter Rhonda Ackerman. She was a 
native of Thibodaux, LA and resident of Destrehan, LA. 

She was a retired Wardrobe Technician with the Theatrical Union of New Orleans. 

Visitation will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan, LA 
on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 12

Alvin D. "Smot" Dufrene, Sr., 68, of Des Allemands. entered into heavens 
enternal rest with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Nov. 22, 2007.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He truly loved the great 
outdoors and bayous of Louisiana. Hunting and fishing was one of his great 
loves. He was a devoted husband, father and most important a true child of God. 

He is preceded in enternal rest by his mother and father, Nelven "Duke" and 
Alice Dufrene and his brother Will Dufrene. 

Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years Alyne, his sisters, Genevieve, 
Janice and Della, his children, Sarah Rankin, Debbie Regole, six grandchildren 
and two great grandchildren. 

Friends and relatives were invited for visitation and prayers on Sunday, Nov. 25 
from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 26 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. followed by 
funeral services at First Assembly  of God Church, 16976 Highway 90 in Des 
Allemands.

husband of Peraline D. Pensis.

her husband Rick, Tina Craig and the late Mary Pensis. Step-father of Michael 
Dunn, John Vito, Timmy Billiot, Greta Hebert, Loretta Matherne, Cindy Wood, Mary 
Hearndon and Jenny Dunn. Son of the late Amable and Emily Pensis. Brother of 
John Vidal, Joseph Pensis, Diane Briggs and Joanne Dubensky. Also survived by 25 
grandchildren. 

Preceded in death by 1 grandchild. 

A native of Pittsburg, PA and a resident of Bayou Gauche. Age 67 years.

DONAHUE 

Emelda Hahn Donahue, age 83, born in New Orleans, passed away at her Luling 
residence on Friday, Nov. 23, 2007. 

She was the beloved wife of her dearly departed husband Lloyd "Nemo" Donahue and 
daughter of the late May Krieger Hahn and Fredrick John Hahn, Sr. A loving 
sister to Dolores H. Walker and Fredrick J. Hahn, Jr.

She was the devoted mother of her daughters Patricia Mark and Susan Thibodeaux 
and their husbands Carl and John.  She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 
Shelley, Kim, Sean, Jennifer & Keith and their respective spouses and a proud 
great-grandmother of 6, Devon, Kyle, Kelly, Christopher, Brandon and Caroline.  

She will be sadly missed in our hearts but fondly remembered by all family and 
friends. 

A private memorial service will be held at the Garden of Memories Crematorium at 
a later date.  

Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's Hospice in her name, as they 
attended to her with tender care at the end of her life.

Sidney F. Gassen, Sr. born January 10, 1918 in Luling, LA, passed away on 
Thursday, November 1, 2007 at the age of 89.

He was the beloved husband of the late Aline Gassen. Beloved father of the late 
Sidney F. Gassen, Jr. (husband of Delores Gassen). Grandfather of Sidney F. 
Gassen,III, Chris Gassen, Curtis Gassen, Ross Gassen and Brandon Gassen. 

He was survived by seven great grandchildren. and one great great grandchild. 
Sidney was a lifetime residence of Luling, LA. 

He was retired restaurant owner of the "Goodie Booth" on River Road in Luling. 

He will be sadly missed by his brothers and sisters and his family and friends 
whose lives he touched. 

He will be forever remembered for his good humor and endless jokes. 

The memorial will be at a later date at the St. Charles Cemetery in Luling, LA.

Rose Mary Riggio Duckworth, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 5, 2007 at 
River Parishes Hospital in LaPlace, LA at the age of 89.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pick 'Unk' Duckworth and her first 
husband, John P. Carroll, Sr. 

She is survived by her devoted sons, John P. Carroll and wife Lelia of Harvey, 
LA, Pink P. Duckworth, Sr. and wife Elaine of Luling, La and daughter, Cynthia 
R. Shotwell and husband Fletcher of River Ridge, LA, one brother, Charles Reggio 
and wife Francis of Metairie, LA; 25 grandchildren, numerous great 
grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ignazio Reggio and Stefanie Defior 
Reggio, sons, Charles W. Carroll and wife Elaine, Grady Duckworth, Sr., Robert 
Duckworth and Willard Duckworth; five brothers, Sam Reggio, Salvodore Reggio, 
Gasper Reggio, Peter Reggio and Guy Reggio; and four sisters, Maime Robeau, Mary 
Parfait, Grace Allison and Barbara Wilcox. She was born in Tickfaw, LA. 

Mrs. Duckworth was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. 

She was a resident of Ormond Nursing Home in Destrehan, LA for the past 2 years 
and St. Charles Parish for 28 years. She was employed by Reuter's Florist, Bound 
Crown Bottling, Co., Great Southern Box Factory, Continental Can Co., and 
retired from the Jefferson Parish School System. 

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Memorial Service and 
Funeral Mass on Friday, November 9, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo

Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007 at 3 p.m. at Riverlands Health Care in Lutcher, LA. 

Daughter of the late Johnnie Nicolosi and Anita Bye Nicolosi.
Mother of Alton, Theresa, Eddie, David and Shirley. Mother-in-law of Emily 
Violion. Sister of Irene Cantrelle, Joan Lawson, the late Anita Sellers and Mary 
Nicolosi. Also survived by 11 grandchildren. Age 67. A native of New Orleans and 
LaPlace.

Arnold Antoine Hymel, Sr., an operator for Shell Oil Refinery. A resident of 
Destrehan and a native of Norco, LA. Entrusted to God's loving care; Oct. 30, 
2007 in Destrehan at the age of 89.

He was also a member of the U.S. Navy, having served in WWII as a Radar 2nd 
Class. 

Survived by 2 sons; Arnold "Sonny" Hymel, Jr., wife Aline Deroche Hymel, Lynn C. 
Hymel, and friend Sister Mary Grace of the Blessed Sarament of Omaha, NB, 1 very 
special friend; Rose Guerra, New Orleans. Daughter Delores Hymel Bebic and 
husband Velimir, Norco, brother Clement Hymel, Metairie, sister Rose Hymel 
Trosclair, Reserve, 7 grandchildren; Tina, David, Mary, Niki, Teresa, Tiffany 
and Lindsay, 6 great grandchildren; Hailey, Devin, Dane, Austin, Abby and 
Gabrial. Mr. Arnold was also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

BRIEN 

Earl B. 'E.B.' Brien, Jr., of Des Allemands, passed away on Oct. 29, 2007 at the 
age of 63 years.

He is preceded in death by his father Earl Brien, Sr. Earl leaves behind to 
cherish his memory his loving wife of 43 years, Linda Brien, his mother Frances 
Brien, his sons: Wayne and his wife Angela, Mark and his wife Patty, his 
daughter Jennifer and her husband Timothy Wood, and his brother Clark Brien. 
He was a devoted "Paw Paw" to Stacey, Heather, Lindsey, Mark Jr., Brandon and 
Emily. Earl will also be dearly missed by numerous friends and extended family. 
Mr. Brien was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having proudly served aboard the 
U.S.S. Newport News. 

He was an active member and Eucharistic minister of St. Gertrude Catholic Church 
in Des Allemands. Relatives and friends of the family were invited to St. 
Gertrude Catholic Church, 17292 Hwy 631, Des Allemands,  70030 on Friday, Nov. 
2, 2007 for visitation at 9 a.m. with a Funeral Mass that followed at 11 a.m. 
Interment was at St. Mary's Nativity Cemetery, 3500 Hwy 1, Raceland, LA 70394.

Jefferson. Age 81. 

A Veteran U.S. Navy having served in WWII. He retired from Shell Oil Refinery.
A native of New Sarpy and a resident of Norco. 

Survivors include: His wife of 58 years; Margaret Baylis Adams, Norco, Daughter 
and Son-in-law, Mary Adams Jacob and husband Robert "Butch" Gonzales, lA., 1 
brother; Raymond Adams, New Sarpy, LA., 1 sister: Irene Lashbrook, Rockville, 
Indiana, 3 Grandchildren: Brandon, Grant and Wife Courtney and Lindsay and

Tregre. Mother-in-law of Arthur Tregre. Daughter of the late Leon and Mary 
Weimer Chiasson. Sister of Alma Dasch, Helen Rome, Rosemary Chiasson, Betty 
Hymel, Bernice Oubre, the late Leon J. Chiasson, Arthur F. Chiasson, Marie 
Laque, Alice Mae Palmisano and Pauline Chaisson. Also survived by 11 
grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded 
in death by one grandchild. 

A native of Boutte, LA and a resident of Luling, LA. Age 89 years.

Godfrey J. Keating, and Harold P. Keating. Sister of Hazel Jacob, the late 
Whitney Bergeron, Willis Bergeron, Walter Bergeron, Margaret Mury, and Maryann 
Bergeron. Grandmother of Gene Schexnaydre, Jonathan Schexnaydre, Obidee E.

2007 from 8:30 a.m. until a prayer service at 11 a.m. A private graveside 
service was to be held at a later date.

Floyd Jules Montz, a machinist with Kaiser, passed away on Sunday , October 21, 
2007.

 A native of Lyons, LA and resident of Destrehan, LA. Age 82. A U.S. Navy 
Veteran. 

Survived by: wife, Ada P. Montz for 57 years; 3 daughters and sons-in-law: Susan 
and Ted Davis, Peggy and Chipper Simon and Joan and Mel Bartholomew; 6 
grandchildren: Kelli and husband, Brian Smith, Robbi Simon, Trey Simon, Mel 
Bartholomew, Jennnifer Bartholomew and Marc Bartholomew; 2 great-grandchildren: 
Jacob and Romeo; 1 sister, Pearl Madere and 1 brother, Quincy Montz. 

Preceded in death by: father, Maurice Montz; mother, Virginia Cambre; 2 
brothers: Daniel and Elmore Montz; and 3 sisters: Lillian Griffin, Vivian Montz

Leroy Paul "Squack" Loup retired from Monsanto Chemical Plant for over 30 years. 
He was a resident of Luling and a native of Wallace. He passed away Saturday, 
October 27, 2007 at his residence.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran. 

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cecile Hymel Loup; daughter, Yvonne 
Adam; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and wife Ineta Loup, Glenn and wife 
Tracey Loup, and Gregory and wife Karen Loup; 4 sisters, Annabel Lambert, Linda 
Chauvin, Ruby Roussel, Shirley Schexnayder; 2 brothers, F.J. Loup, Jr., and 
Curtis Loup; 9 grandchildren, Aaron and Logan Loup, Corey and Tiffany Adams, 
Garrett, Alyssa Loup, Amanda, Glenn Jr., and Ryan Loup; step-grandchild, Celeste 
Hoffmann. 

Preceded in death by his father, Felecien Loup; mother, Linda Trege Loup; and a 
brother, Gene Loup. 

He was a long time member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. He was an 
avid Tulane and Hahnville High School baseball fan. 

Visitation was on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church from 
8 a.m. till Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Entombment to follow in St. 
Charles Cemetery.

Loretta "Retta" Harrington Johnson entered into eternal rest at her home in 
LaPlace, LA, on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at 6:25 p.m.

Age 72. A native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of LaPlace, LA for the past 
20 years. Her presence will sadly be missed. 

She leaves to cherish her memory her five children: Cynthia "Cindi" Hughes and 
husband, John of St. Paul, MN, Walter J. Johnson, Jr. and wife, Penny, Judith 
"Judi" Hotard and husband Bruce, Robin William Johnson and wife Giselle and Leah 
Hidalgo and husband, Perry all of St. Charles Parish, LA; one sister, Margaret 
H. Hoffmann; and 12 grandchidlren: Emily and Sarah Quick, Walter J. Johnson III, 
Carole Ann, Stacy, Alicia, Robin Jr. and Rebecca Johnson, Katie and Hannah 
Hotard and Aidan and Ethan Hidalgo. 

Preceded in death by her parents, William Edward Harrington and Elizabeth

Rodney James Breaux, 45, a resident of Chalmette , LA and a native of Ama, LA 
passed away on October 2, 2007. 

Beloved father of Lauren Breaux and stepfather to Sarah Julien. Brother to 
Sabrina Breaux Bergeron, Ricky Breaux, and the late James J. Breaux, Jr.  
Brother-in-law to Percy Bergeron and Kerri Breaux.  Son of James "J.J." Breaux 
and the late Lena Cannaliato Breaux.  

Employed by the United way of Greater New Orleans .  

Rodney was heavily involved in the St. Bernard Parish project to rebuild St. 
Bernard Parish with partners Zac Rosenburg and Liz McCartney.  He was a member 
of the Knights of Nemesis, Kiwanas of St. Bernard, an active member of the 
Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and the Elaine P. Nunez College .  Member of 
the United Steel Workers-447.  

Long time member of the St. Bernard Dart League.  He was very heavily involved 
in many clubs and organizations to help rebuild St. Bernard Parish.  

Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass in the 
Chapel of MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Blvd. , Marrero , LA on Saturday,

Ralph Joseph Robert, Sr., a native of Luling, died Friday, Oct. 12 after his 
difficult battle with lung cancer. 

Ralph left this Earth peacefully around 11:15 p.m. surrounded by his immediate 
family. 

Ralph, born Dec. 8, 1942, was a devoted husband, loving father, veteran of the 
United States Army and an avid hunter. He was 64. Ralph is survived by his 
beloved wife Nellie Zeringue Robert, son Ralph J. Robert and wife Jill, daughter 
Inga Robert Comardelle and husband Keith, and one grandson, Colby John Robert. 
His brother Lawrence Robert Jr. and wife Johnna and his sister Elaine Robert St. 
Pierre and husband Jack, in addition to many nieces and nephews, also survive 
him. 

He is preceded in death by his father Lawrence F. Robert Sr. and his mother 
Eunice Gaubert Robert. 

A celebration of his life will be held for all family and friends at his home in 
Luling on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Charles, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007.

burial in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Garyville, LA and resident of Noco, LA. He retired from Shell 
Oil with 32 years of service, a veteran of WW II, a member of 726 MP Battalion, 
a past member of the Norco Lions Club, charter member of the Knights of Columbus 
Council #3634 of Norco, and American Legion Post #195.

Mariann Wigle Burns, age 75, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2007 at West 
Jefferson Hospital. 

Funeral services were held at Wynhoven in Marrero, La. on Thursday, Sept.27, 
2007. 

She was born to exceptional parents: Norman Wigle (96 years young and still with 
us today) and Ann Degonia Lovonia Zerkus Wigle in Detroit, Michigan, on April 
25th, 1932. Grandma Ann Wigle predeceased her on Nov. 14, 2003. She graduated 
from Tarpon Springs High School in Florida in June of 1949 and married John 
Melvin Nolan, a Chief in the US Navy. Ms. Burns was licensed in several southern 
states as a consultant and instructor of nurses and health care professionals. 

Mariann Rose Wigle Nolan Burns was a longtime resident of Luling, St. Charles 
Parish. She then moved and resided at Wynhoven in Marrero for the past two 
years. 

She is survived by her three children: Scott Nolan, Dianne Nolan Landry and her 
husband, Gary Landry and Ann Nolan and four grandchildren: Scott Nolan Jr, 
Racine Landry, Davlyn Nolan, and Autum Landry, her father, Ole Man Wiggle and 
her brother, Warren William Wigle of Covington. Other survivors include a host 
of extended family and friends. Ms. Burns was a warm, loving mother and 
grandmother and a unique individual who will always be loved and remembered for 
all her remarkable accomplishments during her lifetime.

Freddy Anthony Madere, of Mount Pleasant, SC born August 22, 1926 passing on 
September 30, 2007. 

Freddy (Red) Anthony Madere died after a short battle in the local Veterans 
hospital from a stroke. He was eighty-one years of age. 

Husband of Delores Reeves Madere and father of David Farrell Madere (Virginia 
Powers), Timothy Dean Madere (wife, Christine), Rebecca Madere Stanton (husband, 
Rick), and Christopher Dale Madere. 

Fred Madere was born in Hahnville, Louisiana and graduated from Hahnville High 
School in Hahnville, Louisiana in 1942. 

The Mass of Christian Burial for Freddy Madere will be Wednesday, October 3, 
2007 in Christ Our King Catholic Church at one o'clock. Prayers of Final 
Commendation and Farewell will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. 

Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL Tuesday evening 
from 6:00 until 8:00 o'clock with a Christian Wake Service at 6:00 o'clock. 

After high school, he attended Louisiana State University (LSU), but joined the 
Navy serving honorably during World War II including landing US Marines on the 
beaches of Okinawa, Japan. Upon honorable discharge in 1946, Mr. Madere 
continued his studies at the Southwestern University, Lafayette, Louisiana and 
finishing at Mcneese State University (then affiliated with LSU) with degrees in 
Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. During his time at school, he worked for 
Continental Oil Company and after graduation he went to work for International 
Business Machines retiring after 36 years. During his time with IBM, Mr. Madere 
supported NASA Space programs, Mercury, Gemini and Apollo in Huntsville, Al. 
While in Charleston, SC as a Branch Manager for IBM, Mr. Madere supported 
military bases to include the Charleston Naval Yard, Charleston Air Force Base, 
Naval Weapons Station, and the Marine base at Parris Island along with many 
other businesses. He is active in the local civic club in Cooper Estates working 
to continually improve theboat landing and was honored this year when the civic 
club named the landing, Madere's Landing. He was also active in Boy Scouts in 
the Mount Pleasant Community serving as Commissioner and Eagle Scout coordinator 
for several years. 

Freddy Madere is preceded in death by his father and mother, James Farell 
Madere, Sr., Juliet Gaubert Madere, sister, Billie Madere Horn, and brothers, 
Russell Madere and Alvin Madere. 

He is survived by his brothers, James Farrell Madere and Louis Donald Madere, 
and his sister Delores Madere Guillot, his spouse and children along with his 
grandchildren Michelle Marie, Jonathan Dean and Jeffrey Scott Madere, Patrick 
Lee, Coleman Grady and Caroline Madere Stanton.

Nova Madere Miguez (Age 89) died Sept. 25 at Community Medical Center at Calico 
Rock, AR. 

She was resident of Mt. View, AR for two years. Here she had very good friends. 

She was born Dec. 29, 1917 to William and Amelie Oubre Madere. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold M. Miguez, Sr., two brothers, 
Wilton Madere and Antoine Sidney Madere, one sister, Corinne M. Bryan. 

She is survived by one sister, Odette Madere. Other survivors include her only 
child, Harold Miguez, Jr., his wife, Iris Heurtin, four grandchildren, Tarar M. 
Sicomo (Nicolas) of Slidell, Duane Minguez (Sandra of Bayou Gauche; Deidre 
Wildmon (Jerell) of Mt. View, AR; and Brad Miguez (Diane) of Bayou Gauche. She 
is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, Hannah and Collin Hutchinson, MOnica 
and Nichole Sicomo, Tanner and Cade Miguez, Breanna, Kayla and Paige Wildmon and

Nova was a RN Nurse at Charity Hospital and retired with 40 years of service. 
She was also a member of the C.R.I.B for many years.

a.m. to 10 a.m., officiated by Father Bernard Francis. Burial in St. John 
Cemetery in Edgard, LA.

Morris W. Buckley passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007. 

Beloved husband and best friend of Johanna E. Buckley. Father of Johnny M.

Ann, Christie and Steven Plaisance. Also survived by extended family members

Mr. Buckley was a native of New Hebron, Mississippi and a resident of St. 
Charles Parish for the past 57 years. 

He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by this family, friends, neighbors

Mr. Buckley was buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Simpson County, Mississippi

de Martin & Castille in Lafayette for William C. Owens, Sr., 86, who passed away

and three great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Granville Owens and Ohis Tatum 
Owens; one son, William C. Owens, Jr.; one grandchild, Jonathan Owens; three 
brothers, Garland G. Owens, Donald Jimmy Owens and Richard David Owens; and 
three sisters, Nadine O. Gilbert, Betty Zo Owens and Billie Marie Alexander.

A native of Oklahoma and a resident of Lafayette for most of his life, Mr. Owens 
was a District Manager of Baker Sand Control(now Baker Hughes Incorporated). 

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother 
and friend to all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Owens was a member of First Baptist Church of Lafayette.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Richard Owens, Jr., Ross Owens, Reid Owens, 
Robert Owens, Jr., Caleb Owens and William Owens III.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007 at Memorial 
United Methodist Church in Mathews for Mary Elizabeth Decker, 90, who died 
peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 21 at her daughters home in Lafayette. 

The Rev. Peggy Foreman of Belle Chasse and Rev. Billy Decker of Hoover conducted 
the services. Interment followed at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Gray. 

She was a native of Parkersburg, WV and a resident of Lockport for 52 years. She 
had a very exciting career in Washington D.C. where she saw President Roosevelt 
on numerous occasions and had tea with the First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. She 
then married the love of her life, Robert Martin Decker I and moved south to a 
part of the country he came to dearly love. Her family was her pride an joy. 

She is survived by her son, Robert Martin Decker II (wife Gale Clement Decker) 
of Luling and her daughter Patricia Parrott (husband William Parrott) of 
Lafayette. She had three grandchildren: Mitchel Decker (wife Kelly) of Ama, 
Billy Parrott of Brooklyn and Amy Parrott Guidry (husband Brian) of Lafayette. 
She had two great-grandchildren to love and adore: Henry Parrott and Emma 
Guidry. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Martin Decker, her parents, Ada 
and Lonnie Simpson, her brother, William Simpson and many other relatives and 
dear friends in Lockport and across the country.

Chad Michael Hymel, 39, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007 from injuries 
sustained in a car accident in Costa Rica. 

Funeral services were held on Friday, Aug. 10 at St. Helen's Catholic Church in 
Pearland, Texas. 

Visitation was from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with the funeral mass immediately 
following. 

Chad was born in New Orleans and raised in Luling, LA, Dallas, Corpus Christi 
and Friendswood, Texas. Preceding his death he split his time between Ocochal, 
Costa Rica and Bayou Vista, Texas. Chad was a graduate of Clear Creek High 
School in 1987 and went on to play football for Tyler Junior College and San 
Jose State. This is where his athletic and leadership abilities were developed. 
He was co-founder of Q-air Freight Forwarding and co-owner of villas el Bosque 
in Ocochal , Costa Rica. 

Survivors include: Parents, Mary Flannagan and Hardy Edmiston of Lafayette, LA; 
Darryl and Judi Hymel of Friendswood, Texas; brothers, Scott Hymel of Fort

people whose life chad touched. Chad lived his 39 years to the fullest in every 
way. 

He was a devoted son, brother, lover of life and a truly charismatic individual. 
He loved his many friends, especially children and the less fortunate. He gave 
immensely of himself and his many talents to help others. He never sought the 
limelight, yet drew it nonetheless because of his kindness. His heart was a big 
as his 6'2" frame and he followed his dreams, achieved them, and dreamt more to 
make his life and others more enriched. He was a wise and unique soul for his 
young years. Chad claimed all the gusto life offers and will be missed by all. 
In 2003 Chad moved to his beloved Costa Rica where he made another world of 
friends and lived his life in a setting of tranquil beauty overlooking the 
mountains, rain forest, and Pacific Ocean. 

To honor his memory, a fund has been established to assist underprivileged 
children both in the United States and Costa Rica.

Russell "Stinky" Dean Madere, beloved husband, father, and grandfather joined 
the Lord peacefully on Tuesday, July 24 at the age of 72. 

He was a resident of Luling. He was a St. Charles parish Deputy from 1967 from

children, Kim and Kevin of Antwerp, Belgium. 

He was the son of the late James Farrell and the late Julie Gaubert Madere of 
Hahnville, and brother of Farrell Madere, Freddie "Red" Madere, Donald Madere, 
Delores Guillot, the late Alvin "Preacher" Madere and the late Billie Horn. 

Relatives and friends were invited to attend the funeral mass at Our Lady of the 
Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hahnville on Friday, July 27 at 11 a.m.

He was fire chief of Norco Volunteer Fire Department from January 1980 until 
January of 2007. Assistant fire chief of Shell Oil Fire Emergency Resonse Team 
for 25 years and 39 plus years served as a volunteer fireman. 

Visitation was held Monday, July 20 at H.C. Alexander Funeral Home in Norco from 
6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, July 31 from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. also at the 
funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. on July 31 at Sacred Heart 
of Jesus Catholic Church. Entombment followed in St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum 
in Destrehan.

Elma Mury Champagne, "Maw Maw" ascended peacefully into heaven at the age of 73 
on Sunday, July 22, 2007. 

Elma was born in Reserve and resided in Norco for the past 52 years. 

Elma is survived by her loving husband, K.J. "Rookie" Champagne and their sons, 
Mickey and Kenny, his wife Alanea Schexnaydre-Champagne and their children, Abby 
and Nikki, daughter-in-law, Penny Champagne-Blank, wife of the late Tommy 
Champagne, and their children, Justine, Bridget and Taylor. Elma is also 
survived by her sisters, Daisy Meyer, Elsie Youman, Bernice Louviere, Ruth 
Caster and brother, Andrew Mury. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucie and Julian Mury, son Tommy 
Champagne, brother Victor Mury, and sister Eunice Brandt. 

Elma was a parishonier of Sacred Heard Church and ws active in the Ladies 
Auxillary Rosary Group, the American Legion Auxillary and the 28th General 
Hospital Auxillary.

Alice Marie Sheppard, a loving and devoted wife, mother and friend passed away 
on Sunday, July 15 in Hamilton, Canada after a tragic accident. 

She was born December 9, 1949 in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana. She lead an 
active life and was retired from the prestigious law firm of Haynes, Lewis, 
Stevens and Boone as a corporate attorney specializing in business law. An honor 
graduate from Tulane University in 1970 before marrying Jack Sheppard on July 2, 
1972. 

Alice is preceded in death by her husband Jack, mother Beulah Sheppard and 
father Edward Sheppard. 

Alice is survived by her children: daughters - Elizabeth Monroe, Stacy Macomb; 
sons - Edward Sheppard, Steven Sheppard, Matt Sheppard, Mark Sheppard and his 
Carey. 

A private memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 19 at a family 
residence in San Antonio.

George H. Kane, 84, a native of Luling, died on July 4, 2007. 

He was a retired pipefitter of Local 60 Plumbers and Steamfitters. Mr. Kane was 
born in Chicago and lived in New Orleans and Arabi. He was a World War II 
Veteran who worked as a machinist. He was a life member of the of the Veterans 
of Foreign Wars Post 3750, American Legion Post 131, military order of the 
Purple Heart Chapter 1955 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 37. He was also 
a life member of the following associations, 82 Airborne Division, 551st 
Parachute Infantry Battalion and the 504th Parachute Infantry Regimen. 

He is survived by his wife Dorothea A. Brunner Kane, and numerous, nieces and 
nephews. 

He is preceeded in death by his parents Helen Kane and Edward Kane, Sr. and 
brothers, Edward Kane Jr., and Gregory Kane.

James Andrew Badeaux Jr. passed away on Monday May 28, 2007 at the age of 46. 

Little Jimmy was born in Marrero December 15, 1960 and grew up in Lafitte. He 
started out on the tugs but when he was classified disabled with VHL he decided 
to go back to school where he finished with a Masters in Urban and Regional 
Planning. He was able to work as a Planner for six years until the progression 
of the disease left him physically impaired.

Throughout his shortened life, James tried to live by the saying, "When life 
deals you lemons, learn to make lemonade!" 

He is survived by his wife Kathleen, sister Jamie (Clint), his grandmother Ms. 
Bessie Kraemer and numerous family and friends.

The family invites friends to celebrate his life at a memorial on Monday June 
11, 2007 at 2:00P.M. at Schoen Funeral Home of Covington, 1414 South Tyler St., 
Covington, LA 70433. Visitation will be from 1:00P.M. until service time.

Son of the late Harry Vickers, Sr. and Essie Vickers of Brunswick, GA. Graduate 
of North Georgia College. Commissioned Officer in the United States Navy aboard 
the USS Forrestal. Member of the Luling United Methodist church since 1954. 

Survivors include daughter Leslie Vickers Sargent of Chicago, IL, a son Daniel 
Vickers of Austin, TX, a son-in-law, David Sargent also of Chicago, a daughter-
in-law, Diane Vickers also of Austin TX, and two grandsons, John Tucker Sargent 
and Cooper Daniel Sargent of Chicago and a granddaughter Laura DeGelia of 
Austin. Also survived by a sister, Attelia Tomey of Macon, GA. 

Burial took place in Palmetto Cemetery in Brunswick, GA.

years old, a native of Destrehan and a resident in Des Allemands. 

He is survived by his loving daughter, Cheyenne Renee Laurent and his longtime 
companion of 19 years, Rosalyn Schexnayder. Beloved son of Raoul Laurent, Jr. 
and Carolyn Vedros Laurent. Brother of Paul Laurent and wife, Annette Gigllo 
Laurent of River Ridge; Suzanne Grayson and husband, James of Destrehan; Raoul 
Laurent, III and wife Julie Gueho Laurent of Ponchatoula; 3 nephews, Scott

Rene graduated from Destrehan High School in 1983 and studied Funeral services 
at Delgado College for 2 1/2 years. He is also an Army Reserve Veteran.

Jesse L. "Josh" Denton, Sr. of Destrehan "New Sarpy." A native of Calhoun 
County, Mississipi, passed into eternal glory on Wednesday Feb. 28 at 8:00PM. 

Born Sept. 9, 1921, he was 85 years old. 

He leaves his wife of 66 1/2 years, Virgina P. Denton; 1 daughter and son-in-
law, Joyce and Donald Clarke of Hammond. 2 sons and daughters-in-law; Jesse L. 
Denton, Jr. and Barbra of Ducala, GA and Thomas H. Denton and Diane of Baton 
Rouge; 7 grandchildren; Sherry G. Dickens of Waxahchie, TX. Kim B. Hendrix of 
Tueplo, MS. 1 sister, Jane LaBorne of Morgan City and numerous nieces and 
nephews. 

He was a preceded by his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Hammond Denton; and 1 brother 
Elliss H. Denton of Slate Springs, MS. 

He was a U.S. Army WWII Veterans, a mason of over 50 years. He retired from T.L. 
James Co., Inc. and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kenner. He was 
in the care of Cannon Hospice for the past year. Thanks to them for his good

Walter "Bunny" Faucheux, Jr. passed away on March 4 at East Jefferson hospital 
at the age of 74. 

He was the beloved husband of Betty Andry Faucheux. Loving father of Bobby,

Dustin, Brad, Travis, Kaylie, Tanner, Nicole, Brandie, Brennan and Logan 
Faucheux. He will be missed by daughters-in-law and numerous relatives and

On Wednesday Jan. 31, God called His daughter, Lisa Lynn Murray home to Him. 

Lisa was born March 9, 1955 in St. Louis, MO. She grew up and lived in 
Destrehan. 

Those who are left to mourn are her beloved daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Coffman, 
her brothers Joey, Peter, and Patrick, her parents June LeBlanc and Paul Murray 
Jr., and her sister Amy Murray. Also sisters-in- law: Stacey and Laura Murray 
and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband John 
Abadie and Sterling F. coffman, paternal grandparents: Lizzie and Paul Murray 
Sr., and maternal grandparents: Ruby LeBlanc Duvlgneaud and Henry E. LeBlanc. 

Lisa was a graduate of St. Charles Borromeo School. She received a bachelor's 
degree in sociology from the University of New Orleans and a nursing degree from 
Nicholl's State University. Lisa also attended Tulane University Law School. She 
was a retired registered nurse and co- owner of River Region Home Health Agency.

27 at the age of 66 years.

Cynthia C. Rainey. Father of Wallace Jr. (Tammara) and Chelita Rainey. 
Grandfather of Jiles Rainey. Godfather of Vanessa Rainey and Rainie Vinnett. 
Brother of Catherine Johnson, Rosalie (Arthur) Allen of New Orleans, Gloria Jean 
(Felmon) Bethancourt of Edgard, Brenda Morgan) Burke, Dianne Vinett, Patricia 
Montgomery of LaPlace, Silas Jr. (late Esther Lee) of Baton Rouge, Arthur, Lance 
(Barbara) Rainey of Edgard, Lester (Betty) Rainey Sr. of Hahnville and the late 
Paul Rainey. Brother-in-law of Anna (Weldon) Collette of New Orleans, Michael 
(Debra) Chaney of New Orleans, Anna and Audrey Rainey of Edgard, Doris Chaney of 
Marrero. Son-in-law of the late Norman and Josie J. Chaney Sr. Also survived by 
a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. 

A native of Edgard and a resident of Boutte. A former employee of A & P Tea 
Company. Relatives and friends of the family and also pastors, officers and 
member s of the Greater Woodville B.C. in Wallace, New Jerusalem B.C., 
Historical Bethlehem B.C. and neighboring churches, employees of Sercuritas 
Security, A & P Tea Co. are invited to attend were invited to attend the funeral 
services on Thursday Feb. 1, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the Greater Woodville B.C. W. 
9th St. in Wallace. Rev. Marc Nelson officiating. Interment Mt. Airy Memorial 
Park Cemetery, Boutte. Visitation at the church after 9 a.m. Final viewing at 
the church after 10:45 a.m.

BATSON

Aubrey Merrell Batson, Sr. passed away on Sunday, Jan. 14 in Houma. 

A U.S. Marine Corp. veteran of WWII. 

Husband of the late Sylvia Mercedes Batson. Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Batson. 
Father of Peggy Falla and husband Joe Falla; John Batson and girlfriend Karen 
Peters; the late Aubrey M. Batson Jr. William (Billy) Batson, Sue Tesch, Anita 
Gaubert and Mary Massengale. Father-in-law of Elaine peters Batson. Brother of 
Eugen McFarren and Vonda Morton. Also survived by 8 grandchildren and 4 great 
grandchildren. 

Age 80, a native of Earle, Arkansas and resident in Houma. 

Visitation was at Alexander Funeral Home Norco at 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. on 
Tuesday Jan 16. A private Graveside Service followed the visitation.

ABADIE

Mary Ann Bradley Abadie, born September 11, 1933 in Norco died on Jan. 13 at 
North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, from complications associate with 
Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer. 

She is the daughter of the late Victor "Vic" Bradley, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth 
Gavin "Dookeye" Bradley and mother of Louis Cook III, and Elizabeth Cook 
Schaeufele. She has one brother Victor "Vic" Bradley Jr. who is a prominent 
attorney in Norco. 

She married Louis Cook, Jr. in 1954 and later married Clarence J. Abadie Jr. in 
1977. 

She graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1955 in the College of 
Education and was Teacher Supervisor at the Norco Primary School until she 
retired in 1987. She also taught at schools in Thailand and Abu Dhabj and was 
school Principal in the Department school at the military base on the island of 
Andros in the Bahamas and on the island of Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands. 

Private family funeral arrangements were planned.

Ruby Labat LeBlanc passed away on Wednesday Jan. 17 in Norco. 

Wife of the late Louis F. "Cowboy" LeBlanc, Sr. Daughter of the late Etienne 
Labat and Edith Bourgeois Labat. Mother of Elaine and husband, Lionel Perret, 
Jr. of Norco. Louis F. Jr. and wife Janet LeBlanc of Shreveport, Lannie R. and 
wife Sharon LeBlanc of Suwanne GA, and the late Lindsey LeBlanc, Sr. Sister of 
Shirley Labat Kemp of Bachelo. The late Etienne Labat, Jr. Norman Labat, Ernest 
Labat, Ethel Labat Louque, Dorthy Labat Bran, Edward Labat and Albert Labat. 
Also survived by 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren. 

Age 86 and a native of Paulina and a resident of Norco. 

Mass of Christian Burial was at 11:30 AM on Saturday Jan 20 at Sacred Heart 
Catholic Church in Norco. Interment in St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum.

WHITE

Mark D. White, 49, died peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends 
Sunday, Jan. 21 at 3:43 p.m. of Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS). 

He was a native of Luling and a resident in Houma. A 1976 graduate of Hahnville 
High School and graduated from LSU. He received a master's degree and was 
practicing nurse anesthetist (CRNA) at Chabert Medical Center. 

Mark is survived by his beloved and devoted wife Cydney Smith White; his 
daughter, Lauren White Harmon, his parents Decker and Gloria White, sister 
Kristen White, sister Sheryl Bonilla and husband Henry, brother Keith White and 
wife Sue, brother Darren White and Wife Linda, sister in law Stevette Anderson 
and husband Dwight, and mother in law Janet Smith. Mark is also survived by 
seven nephews and four nieces. 

Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents Missak and Verkin Selian, Perry 
and Gladys White, and his father in law Stephen Smith. Also at Mark's Bedside 
were dear friends Jonathan Bruce, Jeanne Breaux, Becky and Paul Ianazzo, Dr. Jon 
Shults, Tara Stringer and Shannon Huber. 

Mark touched so many lives because of his passion for diversity of interests. He 
loved RX-7s, auto racing, guns, politics, history and medicine. His magnetic 
personality drew friends from many fields. On any given night his visitors could 
include doctors, nurses, engineers, car enthusiasts, National Rifle Association 
members or Washington politicos. Mark truly lived a full and active life until 
his last day. 

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at Chauvin Funeral 
Home, 5899 Hwy 311, Houma. Funeral services will be conducted by Bishop Greg 
Stock of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints on Wednesday Jan. 24 at 
10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery in 
Thibodaux.

Vernell Chadwick Stipe, age 37, on Jan. 12, 2007. 

He leaves to cherish his parents, Olevia Stipe and Henry Lewis; children Vernell

host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.

Leon Rudolph Fabre, Sr., age 70, passed away on Jan. 12, 2007 at St. Charles 
Parish Hospital in Luling. 

Funeral Services will be co-officiated by Reverended John Finn and Reverend John 
Perino. The family requested visitation be observed from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. 
then followed by Mass of Christian burial at Holy Family Catholic Church on Jan. 
15. He was laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette on Jan. 16. 

Serving as pallbearers were sons, Brian Fabre and Leon Rudolph Fabre Jr.; 
brothers, Mark Fabre and Richard Fabre; and nephews, Mark H. Fabre, David Fabre, 
Lonnie Fabre, Ricky Fabre and Mike Bourque. 

Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Blvd. in Marrero handled arrangements. 

A native of Kaplan and resident of Luling for 42 years. He was a graduate of the 
University of Southwestern Louisiana University with a degree in Zoology and 
Chemistry in 1964. He was one of 20 employees employed by Union Carbide Taft 
plant. He retired as a production maintenance supervisor in 1998 with 33 years 
of service. 

Leon served his community as a member of the Coastal Zone Management Committee 
and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a loving husband and father, 
who enjoyed sharing time with his family and friends, playing golf, reading and 
working crosswords puzzles. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family. 

He is survived by his wife Madeline Comeaux Fabre of 43 years and their four 
children, Jacquine Fabre Melancon and her husband, Glenn of Sherman, Texas; 
Brian Fabre and wife Andrea Friloux Fabre of Luling; Michelle Fabre Boudreaux 
and her husband Timothy of Luling; Leon Rudolph Fabre Jr. and wife Jeanine 
Malbrough Fabre of Luling; Also survived by three siblings, Margaret Bourque of 
Houston, Texas; Mark Fabre and Richard Fabre of Luling and seven grandchildren, 
who affectionally called him "Pere" Christopher and Alexandre Melancon, Brandie, 
Kaylie, Cameron and Emersyn Fabre and his mother, Cecelia Kite Fabre and a 
younger brother, David B. Fabre.
