He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, grandson, uncle and nephew. Skeeter is survived by his wife Wanda Brown Hebert. His daughters Layla Lea Hebert (Kenneth Musgrove "deceased") and Heather Rae' Hebert. And his grandchildren Krislyn Kelbee Hebert and Kenneth Virgil Hebert. Also survived by his father Walter J. Hebert Jr., mother Betty Harrell Hebert, and his sister Charlene H. Gutierrez. Also survived by his paternal grandmother Jeanette C. Hebert. She began teaching on a teachers certificate from Louisiana State Normal for two years and for 25 years of Saturdays at Loyola University and received her degree in education. Babin, age 84 years, beloved husband of Doris Melancon Babin for the past 60 years, passed away Monday, Nov. 3, 2008. A native of New Sarpy and a resident of Norco. Father of Sandra B. Boucvalt, Craig (wife, Christina) Babin, Mark (wife, Ana) Babin, Robin B. Robicheaux (husband, Steven) and Kent Babin. Also survived by sixteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was also a lifelong member of the VFW and American Legion. He retired from the banking business after 50 years. Alexander Funeral Home, Norco. ============================ PLATTSMIER Nov 12, 2008 On Oct. 29, 2008 Ryan Plattsmier found peace. Ryan was the much loved son of Randy and Mary Ann Plattsmier and beloved brother, Derek, and his canine "buddy," Lou. Ryan is also survived by his loving grandfather, Hurschel "Popee" Burleigh and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and so, so many friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Rod "Pa Pa" and "Dot" Plattsmier and by his maternal grandmother Ruby "Momee" Burleigh. The love of music enriched Ryan's life. He played the bass guitar in a local and nationally traveled New Orleans based band, "The Public." He was an avid outdoorsman and regularly outdid his Dad and brother in their many forays on the waterways and in the woods. Ryan was an avid football fan and lived for the Saints and LSU seasons. He loved his extended family, and cherished large family get togethers where Cajun cuisine was the chosen fare. Ryan was 31 and resided in Luling. Relatives and friends of the family attended a funeral Mass at Holy Family Church, 155 Holy Family Lane, Luling. on Monday, Nov. 3, 2008. Priscilla was preceded in death by her father William J. St. Amant and is survived by her mother, Dorothy Roux St. Amant. Loving sister of Don St. Amant (wife, Iris), Billie Simoneaux (husband, Earl), Dorothy Dufresne (husband, Edward), and Clifford St. Amant (wife, Gale). Prissy was a devoted daughter, sister and aunt. ALEXANDER FUNERAL HOME in Norco, LA. ============================ WITTE Oct 22, 2008 Margaret Sumners Witte, 98, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008 in Tallahassee, Fla. She was born on Feb. 2, 1910 in Natchez, Miss. to Harry and Edith Sprague De Witt. She graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge during the Great Depression and taught high school in Sicily Island. She married Alvie Cecil Sumners, and subsequently lived in Baton Rouge, Algiers and Paradis. Beginning in the early 50s, she taught high school English in St. Charles Parish. After the death of Cecil Sumners in 1964, she continued teaching until the early 70's. In the mid-70's, she married Louis John Witte, and the couple divided their time between Santa Monica, Calif. and Paradis. Widowed a second time, Margaret moved to Tallahassee, Fla. in 1981 to be near family, and lived in the Lafayette Park neighborhood. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, Circle Nine. She is survived by two sons, Cecil Sumners Jr. (Betty) of Charlotte, N.C., and De Witt Sumners (Neddy) of Tallahassee, Fla. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Edith Sumners Ross of Cornelia, Ga., Joanna Sumners Snyder (Scott) of Tallahassee, Fla., Laura-Kaye Sumners Norman (John) of Waxhaw, N.C, Julia Sumners Anderson (Derry) of Plano, Texas, and Lee Keller Sumners of San Francisco, Calif. Trysten joined the Lord's Choir of Angels at the age of 2 years and 3 weeks. He is survived by his mom and dad, June and Chris Canaski. Nickie was born and raised in Luling, then moved to Texas in 1985 when she married Craig Nicks. She was a loving mother who worked as a teaching assistant in Granbury. After living his adult life in Luling, he moved to Houma in 2006. During his lifeltime, he acquired the nicknames "Ducky" and "Chester" and in later life "Winn" and "Chet". He was affectionately known to his grandkids and great- grandkids as "Pappy". Winfield was preceded in deah by his loving wife of 48 years, Eunice Savoie Friloux. He was the son of the late Leonie Robert Friloux and Denis Friloux. He was the father of Kevin Friloux and wife, Angie, Winfield J. "Winnie" Friloux, Jr. and wife Cathy, and Keith Friloux and wife, Lauren and the late Donald D. Friloux. He was the brother of Clifford, Alvin, Irvin, Amos and Dennis Friloux, Melba Lemoine, Dorothy Plaisance and Betty Baudoin. Also survived by three special sisters-in-law: Ethel Savoie, Roberta Landry and Beverly Trayal, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildrenand numerous nieces and nephews. He was an athlete at Westwego High, where he graduated. He honorably served in World War II with the 363rd Engineers; Company D., SS, being discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served in the Middle East and received the Europeon North African medal, the good conduct and victory medals. He was a member of the Luling VFW Post 3750 and Baudoin-Loupe American Legion Post 316. He was for many years an active member of St. Anthony and Holy Family Parishes in Luling. Winfield was a retired homebuilder, building hundreds of homes in St. Charles and neighboring parishes. He took special pride in the constructions of Willowdale Country Club, of which he was a charter member. He was one of the first coaches in the St. Charles Recreation Assocation, teaching many young boys to enjoy America's pasttime. He was an avid Saints fan from the time of the team coming into New Orleans until the time he left us. He left us with his strength, his devotion to his wife and kids and his untiring goodwill. Jim) Moragne entered eternal rest on Sunday, October 5, 2008 at 4:48 p.m. following complications from emergency surgery. Fr. Jim was born June 11, 1944, and attended St. Joseph's Seminary in St. Benedict, LA where he received his Associate of Arts degree in 1964. He then attended UNO and received a B.A. in Mathematics in 1970 and taught in the St. Tammany Public School system for one year before enrolling at Notre Dame Seminary. He was ordained to the Diaconate in May, 1974 and served at St. Genevieve's in Slidell until he received his Master's Degree in Divinity and was ordained to the Priesthood on May 10, 1975. He became the Associate Pastor at St. Francis de Sales Houma before it became part of the new Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux. He was a teacher and Rector at St. John Vianney Preparatory Seminary from 1976 to 1982 while in residence at St. Angela Merici, St. Ann's, and St. Francis Xavier parishes. He was assigned to assist the Baton Rouge Diocese at Christ the King Catholic Student Center at LSU, where he ministered from 1982 to 1984. He was appointed Vice-Chancellor for Spiritual Affairs by Archbishop Hannan in 1984. While fulfilling his duties at the Chancery, he was in residence at St. Clement of Rome and later Our Lady of the Rosary parish. He was named a Prelate of Honor (Monsignor) by the Holy Father in 1988. In 1989 he was appointed Pastor at Holy Family parish in Franklinton. He later served as Pastor at St. Lawrence the Martyr parish in Kenner and St. John the Baptist parish in Paradis, where he served for the past thirteen years. He became Chaplain at Nelson Coleman Correctional Center in St. Charles Parish in 2007. He was most recently installed as Pastor at St. Hubert's parish in Garyville, an assignment he had sought and where he ardently desired to serve until his retirement. Fr. She was born and raised in New Orleans and lived in Luling the last 34 years. She graduated from UNO with a bachelor's degree in fine arts and from LSU with a master of fine arts degree. Mary truly loved being an artist and had a deep connection with the beauty in nature and shared that with others through her art. She won many awards with her art and taught numerous art workshops in south Louisiana. Mary exhibited her art for many years at Anglade-Barthelemy Gallery on Royal Street. Mary helped run an art camp for children several summers that was funded by a grant that she co-authored. She was an active member of the St. Charles Art Guild, First Union Presbyterian Church, St. Tammany Art Association, West Bank Art Association, a local stock club, bridge club, and book club. She was a signature member of the Louisiana Watercolor Society. Mary is preceded in death by her husband George David Moate (April 22, 2004) and her parents; John O'Reilly and Norma Mock O'Reilly. Naquin passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2008 at 3:03 p.m. at the age of 78. He was a resident of Norco. He was a retired maintenance supervisor for Shell in Norco for 38 years and was in the Army as a PFC. Survivors include his wife: Shirley Hebert Naquin of Norco. For over 40 years he serviced many of the local restaurants and seafood markets of New Orleans and through the Louisiana and Mississippi area and was the proud owner of Colliers Fisheries in Bayou Des Allemands for over 32 years. He was a founding member of the Louisiana State Seafood Association and introduce various new seafood products to the greater New Orleans area. He is a 7 year and 2 month survivor of a Lung Transplant and his courage and fighting determination is and always will be an inspiration to his family, friends and other patients. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Ochsner Lung Transplant Unit and ICU for the thoughtful and compassionate care that they provided for our loved one during the last 7 years and 2 months of his life.
