Russ was born on October 9, 1926 on Evergreen Plantation in Wallace, LA. Loving husband of Rosa Gravois Songy; father of Kay Stiles (Payne), Denise Pierce (Louis) and Carol Savoie (Tony); grandfather of Jay (Colleen), Russ, Ryan and Lauren Stiles, Sarah, Leslie, Michelle and Caroline Savoie and Matthew and Rachel Pierce; brother of Margaret S. Meyer, Sr. Linda Songy, and Sylvia Davis, brother-in-law of Lou Ann Songy and Calvin Hingle. Preceded in death by his parents, Aubin A. Songy Sr. and Philomene Stewart Songy. Siblings; Aubin A. Songy Jr., Jeanne Songy, Annette Toomer (Charles), and Phyllis Hingle. A graduate of Loyola University's School of Pharmacy, Russ owned and operated Vacherie Drug Store for 30 years and Excellence in Labeling for many years following. Russ' family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of the Alzheimer's Day program at the Jewish Community Center in New Orleans, the staff of Ormond Nursing Care Center in Destrehan and St. Catherine's Hospice. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Thursday, June 24, 2010 from 9:30 am to 11:45 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon from the church with Msgr. James B. Songy and Fr. Daniel Brouillette officiating. Burial will follow in parish mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, Masses preferred or donations may be sent to the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross, 1400 O'Day Street, Merrill, WI 54452 ===================
