Bob was born in Louisville, Ky., July 8, 1931. Bob is survived by his wife of 13 years, Carol ,son and daughter in law, Ron and Ruth Phillips of Sugar Hill, Ga. granddaughter and her husband, Gretchen and Jeff Jones of Plantation, Florida, granddaughter Erin Phillips of Georgia, sister in law and her husband Sherree and Ed Koehler of Texas, brother in law and wife Bill and Cathy Campbell of California, and brother in law and wife Hugh and Donna Campbell of Missouri. In addition, cousins; Bobby and Helen Kohler, of Shepherdsville, Ky. and Beverly Cunningham, and Delores Turner of Louisville, Ky. Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolores, and son Larry, and parents Robert and Azalea Phillips, plus grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Bob attended school in Louisville, Ky. after which he worked in the Utility Industry for 47 years. Bob worked with Louisville Gas and Electric, Combustion Engineering as a lead start up engineer, Houston Lighting and Power, Houston, TX, Grand Island Utilities, Grand Island, NE, Nebraska Public Power District, in Sutherland and Omaha, NE, Associated Electric Co-Op of New Madrid, MO. In 1996, Bob retired in Owensboro, Ky. from Big Rivers Electric Corporation. Bob was always a leader in Power Plant operations and professional organizations. He served as president of the Grand Island Engineers Club as well as the Western Nebraska Engineers Club. Bob operated a Marina and Restaurant on Lake Travis outside of Austin, Texas for a time. Bob relocated to LaPlace, LA in 1997, where he began a second 10 year career with Avis/Budget Car Rental, retiring in 2010. Bob was an avid sports fan, he coached Little League baseball for over 20 years, personally loved golfing, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, football, and basketball. Bob served as an officer of the Riverwood Homeowners Asssociation for over ten years, most recently as Secretary/Treasurer. At the time of his death, Bob was a member of First Baptist Church in La Place. Through the years he had been a deacon and RA leader in several churches, and Chairman of the Building Committee at Sharpstown Baptist, Church in Houston, TX. Bob had the distinction of being named a Kentucky Colonel. Besides the details of his accomplishments, Bob was a fun and always cheerful fellow. He was never too busy to lend advice, a helping hand or serve others in a time of need. He will be greatly missed and we his survivors and friends will remember him with a smile, many great stories and a grateful heart. We have been blessed and encouraged by his life well lived out before us and his example of excellence in all he did. A special thanks for all the loving care to Lakeside Hospice.
