Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/stcharles/photos/obits/2014 and click on the name of interest. ========== Sterley Joseph Matherne, Jr., known to family, friends, and business associates as Jay, left this world on Tuesday, July 15, 2014. He was born on October 3, 1947 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He and his beloved wife of forty-one years, Angela Migliore Matherne, were life-long residents of Destrehan, Louisiana. Jay is survived by his wife, son, Blake Joseph Matherne, and daughter, Dr. Amy Matherne Fakier, and her husband, Feizal Fakier. Jay is the son of the late Sterley Joseph Matherne, Sr. and the late Dardnella Boudreaux Matherne Robert and stepson of the late Albert Joseph Robert. Jay is the brother of Linell Babin, Cheryl Faucheaux, Candace Weber, Alison Chaffin, Robin Spears, and Troy Robert. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He will always be known to the children of his Destrehan neighborhood as "Uncle Jay." Jay was a graduate of Destrehan High School and also attended Louisiana State University receiving a bachelor's degree in accounting. He was honorably discharged as a captain in the US Army. Jay was employed by Truck and Transportation Equipment Company of Jefferson, Louisiana, and held the title of president and general manager for over 35 years. He was highly respected and valued by his peers as an expert in the heavy truck equipment business. Jay enjoyed the great outdoors and spent much of his free time hunting, fishing, gardening, and doing carpentry. Throughout his entire life, Jay passed his passion for the great outdoors on to his two children and many nieces and nephews. Jay had the gift of gab and brought many laughs and smiles to all those he encountered with his many stories. Family, friends and business associates are invited to celebrate Jay's life through visitation at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Destrehan, LA on Saturday July 19th, 2014 from 10:00am to 12:00pm, followed by a mass of the Holy Eucharist. Interment will be at the St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum following mass. The celebration of Jay's life will continue at Destrehan Plantation located at 13034 River Road in Destrehan, LA. Upon Jay's request, ladies no black attire. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in the name of Sterley J. Matherne to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
