Mary was born on April 29th, 1934 to the late Ora E. Boardman and the late Anthony Viveiros Sr., in Fall River, MA. It is there that she met and fell in love with the love of her life, her "Teddy Bear", the late Joseph George Medeiros. She became well-traveled, accompanying Joseph, a career U.S. Army soldier, to military bases where he served in Oklahoma, Hawaii and Washington State, eventually settling down after retirement from the Army in Portsmouth, RI to raise their family. She was preceded in death by her husband, her brothers, Anthony Viveiros, Jr. of Marietta, GA and George S. Viveiros of Palm Springs. She is survived by her four daughters: Cheryl A. (Medeiros) White of Temecula, CA, Susan L. (Medeiros) Clawson of Metairie, LA, Bonnie L. (Medeiros) Jones of Destrehan, LA and Mary Jo Medeiros of Destrehan, LA., 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 1 niece and 1 nephew. To Betty, no one was a stranger - as a military wife, life was difficult at times raising their 4 daughters but because Betty was a people person, it suited her as she was constantly introduced to new people and new places. She loved to chat with friends over a cup of coffee and had a smile for everyone. She enjoyed all types of music, the house was never silent as she listened to everything from AM Gold to Country & Western. She loved to watch birds and had a bevy of grand-dogs and grand-cats that she enjoyed doting on. Her favorite hobbies were reading books and the local paper, doing crossword puzzles and her latest joy - the new coloring books designed for grown-ups. While growing up in New England she enjoyed boating, fishing, swimming, crabbing and the occasional clam or lobster boil with family, friends and neighbors. She continued to be well-traveled spending brief periods with her 3 eldest daughters after her husband passed away in 1987. In 1994, Betty joined her youngest daughter Mary Jo who had followed in her father's footsteps by having a military career. Betty's adventures continued as she accompanied her daughter to naval commands in Memphis, TN, Norfolk, VA and New Orleans where they settled upon her daughter's retirement from the Navy. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at H.C. Alexander Funeral Home, 821 Fourth St. Norco, LA 70079 on Saturday, March 12, 2016 from 1PM till 3PM. The family would like to thank the friends and neighbors who assisted Betty while her daughter was deployed to Iraq and Port Hueneme, CA by transporting Betty to doctor appointments, shopping for groceries and maintaining their home. We also extend thanks to Cynthia Charbonneau and Bernadette Casella for providing care and affection to the collective family pets while her daughters were at Betty's side in hospice. Lastly a special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at East Jefferson General Hospital's 6 South Oncology ward for their compassionate care during their mother's illness. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or a blood/platelet donation at East Jefferson General Hospital Blood Bank. Arrangements under the direction of H.C. Alexander Funeral Home, Norco, LA. US Army ===================
