Visitation was held May 3 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemands. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated April 26 with burial in St. Gertrude Catholic Church cemetery in Des Allemands. Spiess is survived by her son, Edgar J. Spiess II (Martha), Russell D. Spiess (Connie); daughter, Mary Bergeron (Joe); grandchildren, Aaron Spiess, Susan Spiess, Joey Bergeron, Renee Dempster (Quinn), Chad Chapman, Colin Chapman (Laura); great grandchildren, Olivia Dempster, Henry Chapman and Madelyn Chapman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar J. Spiess Sr.; parents, William Egnace Dufrene and Agnes T. Dufrene; brothers, Landry, Clarence, Johnny, Jesse, Martin, Stanley and Albert Dufrene; sisters, Sedonia Savoie, Alverta “Tootle” Matherne, Leona “Zoz” Roger and Myrtle Naquin. She was a teacher for 29 years in St. Charles Parish, mostly at Allemands Elementary School in Des Allemands. She was Grand Marshall of the Des Allemands Mardi Gras Parade in 2003. She was the recipient of the Senior Citizens Volunteer Award for Associated Catholic Charities. Falgout Funeral Homes in charge of arrangements. ===================
