FRED MOORE 1967 - 1971 I must apologize for the long delay in answering your TWO letters. I HAVE spent some time on "what" to send to you -- at vari- ous times. So, here goes -- use any of the following you wish and feel free to "edit" any you think needs it!! Betty & I remember with great warmth the wonderful folks there in the New Zion Community. Their patience with and kindness to us is remembered with great thankfulness. During the time I was Pastor of New Zion (11/66 thru 1/72) -- the Auditorium was redecorated and furnished by "Sams & Sons" of Waco, Texas. New carpet, pews, Pulpit furniture and stained glass windows were included for the tremendous price of $12,000. Un- heard of !! My life was threatened by some adult children of deceased mem- bers who lived in New Orleans. They stated they were going to "get me" and come and remove the "hallowed" furniture from the auditor- ium. But they never did either one. During our time there the Church called its first "Part-time" Music Director, who is now, Dr. Mike Settoon, a Music Professor at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, La. I had a heart attack the week prior to my last Sunday as Pas- tor of New Zion. I spent that week and the next 2 weeks in the Kentwood Hospital. The Sorrento Baptist church brought a 18-wheel truck to New Zion, packed us & loaded us & Betty came back to get me when I got out of the hospital. I did not get to preach at Sorrento Baptist until the week before Easter of 1972. In early 1982, while serving Macedonia Baptist Church in Effie, La. (after being there over 5 years), a door of service was opened by our Lord for me to serve in the United Methodist Church. I questioned the Lord about doing this. I said, "You know that I don't know anything but "Baptist" doctrin and "Baptist Church" life, Lord." He replied, "I called to you to preach and teach MY WORD, MY GOOD NEWS. I have never said anything about "Baptist" or "Methodist". Do what I tell you." So, in trying to do that, I have been pastoring United Methodist Churches here in Louisiana since June, 1982. If the Lord is willing and my health allows, I plan to continue preaching until June, 1998 --- then I will "retire" from the "active ministry". As no believer ever "retires completely" from ministry -- I'll still be preaching & tea- ching when I get the chance!! The Church, or at least some members of the Church might be interested in what has happened and is happening in the lives of our 3 children: Danny, Deborah & Sam. Danny retires on February 18, 1994, as a Lt. Col. from the Air Force. He has been stationed in San Antonio, Tex. for some years & plans to live in "their" new home there. Danny had 2 daughters: Tracy, who graduated from the University of Colorado in Dec. 1993 and Amanda, who in in the U.S. Navy. Deborah, has 4 boys, Micah, who is in the Army, Benjamin, who is a High School Senior this year; Joshua (12) and Jack (6). They have lived in the Pineville area for some time now. Sam (the baby) is a S/Sgt in the Air Force -- attached to a Army Ranger unit. For the past 5 years he has delighted in jump- ing out of airplanes at 20,000 feet -- free-falling to 5,000 feet and then landing in a small pre-selected circle. Sam will be get- ting out of the Air Force in July of this year. He will go into Law Enforcement in the state of Washington. He has 3 boys, Chris, 5 1/2; Chase, 4 1/2; and Caleb, 2. yes, he and his wife have their hands full!
