The only description available regarding the courthouse is found in documents relating to Montpelier Academy at LSU Archives, as follows. July 29, 1833. Repairs to the old Court House. On the lowest story, or below stairs, all the partitions to be taken out, all the doors and windows to be completely repaired and the window sash primed and glazed. The stairs to be taken down and run up in the southwest corner of the house. Two pillars to be set up where the log partition now is if needed to sustain the upper floor. Above stairs - or in the second story. All partitions to be taken down. The windows cased and furnished with sash, primed and glazed, and shutters existing repaired and others made so as to secure all the windows. All necessary repairs to be done to the floors as well in the basement and upper story. All the plank and other materials necessary for the repairs contemplated to be furnished by the Academy. All of which said work is to be done in a workman like manner and the repairs on the Boarding House to be completed, and the work delivered on or before the first day of October next and the old Court House to be finished by the first day of November next. And the letting of said building having been repeatedly cried, George Killian became the lowest and last builder, for the price and sum of one hundred and eighty-two dollars, to be paid as follows - one half on the day the work is delivered, and the balance on the first day of March next ensuing. Now the said George Killian in order to secure the Board of Trustees of Montpelier Academy aforesaid in the faithful performance of the work he has undertaken to do for said Academy, as in the obligation before set out, offers as security John Killian who signs this bond as joint and actual obligers (?) the "Trustees of the Montpelier Academy". To the faithful performance and keeping of which said obligation on the part of the aforesaid George Killian, the said joint and several oblijors (?) bind themselves and each of them to the Trustees of the Montpelier Academy aforesaid in the sum of five hundred dollars.
