Gorman February 9, 1841 The State of Louisiana Parish of St. Helena. Be it Remembered that on this ninth day of February, Eighteen hundred and forty one in the year of American Independence, the sixty fifth, before me Samuel Leonard Parish Judge and ex officio notary Publick in and for the State and Parish aforesaid, personally came and appeared Thomas Gorman of said State and in Consideration of one thousand Dollars, to him in hand paid the Receipt which he hereby acknowledges from the hand of Dempsey Kemp Gorman, also of the State and Parish aforesaid, who is ? present and accepting and to who acknowledges possession thereof. We said first appeareses, had bargained, sold, transferred, conveyed and delivered and by these presents doth, absolutely, bargain, sell, transfer, convey and deliver, unto the said Dempsey Kemp Gorman, all his right, title interest and claim, and that of heirs and assigns, in and to a certain negro woman named Mary of dark complexion, aged about nineteen years. Slave for life, and warranted free from all the vices and maladies prescribed by Law, and a bay mare and her Colt, one yoke of work oxen, and sixteen head of stock cattle, to have and to hold unto the said vendee, his heirs and assigns, to their own proper use and behoof forever, together with all the rights, priveleges, rents, pries and appuntenunces unto the same belonging or in any wise appertaining to his own proper use in behoof and the said vender hereby warrants, and defends the right and title of said named slave and other property against himself, his heirs and assigns, and all other persons, unto said vendee his heirs and assigns. In Testimony whereof the parties hereunto interchangeably set their hands granting and accepting and before signing agreed to waive the certificate of Mortgage from the Register of Mortgages, in such cases required of the Notary, for the non production thereof, thus done and signed in the presence of me Said Judge and Notary and in that of Henry Leonard and S. B. Draughon assisting witnesses of proper age and demonstrated In the State and Parish aforesaid, who have signed these presents with said parties and me said Notary as such.
