All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ State of Louisiana Parish of St. Helena Sale of land James Ballard to sons 20 April 1832 Be it remembered that on this seventh day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred thirty two, before me, Burlin Childress, parish Judge & ex officio notary public in and for the Parish of St. Helena, State of Louisiana, duly commissioned & sworn, personally came James Ballard & presented the following Instrument of writing, requesting the same to be admitted of record in the words & figures following, to wit:, Know all men by these presents that I, James Ballard, have this day bargained & sold unto my two oldest sons of lawful age, namely John and Ira E. Ballard, for the consideration that they shall comfortably maintain me, James Ballard & Eleanor, my wife, during our natural lives {namely} and improvement in the dividing ridge between Tangipahoa and Natalbany in the parish of St. Helena, [and having] the place of my present residence, also one horse & one mare & colt, also twenty-one head of cattle & about fifty head of hogs. The only other consideration of this obligation is that whatever part or portion of the above named property shall remain at our deaths, namely at the deaths myself & wife, then my two above named sons shall equally divide the effects ... their surviving Brothers & sisters of any remains.
