Johnson From: Suc. Records of St. Helena Par., E. Russ Wms., p. 115 Thomas H. Roddy Estate: 1850, The petitioner (Ephraim B. Roddy) has been recommended as tutor, and John Wms. as under tutor. 1856, Ephraim B. Roddy...stated that the nearest relatives are John P. Williams, Edward Herron, Ephraim R. Bates, John R. Bates, William S. Bates and William Dennis. From p. 56 - op cit.: William Joel Foster = Mary Staples . . . Jethro Staples = Frances (Fanny) Foster . . . . . . . . . Louisa = Armenta Harriette (Harriet) = Lemuel H. Parker (1) Samuel Wms. John P. Williams (2) Thomas Gorman From listing of Williams in 1840 Census St. Helena Parish Numbers 2,3,4, & 5 in the listing were Francis, Samuel, Richard and John Williams. Francis was shown b. between 1810-20, Samuel b. between 1800-10, and John b. between 1810-20. From 1850 Census, St. Helena Par., La.: #66 Williams, John 32 Harriet 28 Nancy 8 Jesse 6 Frances (female) 2 #67 Thomas Gorman 32 Ortamecia 32 (she was 48 in 1860) Martha J. Williams 13 Joseph F. Gorman 11 Charles Williams 10 Now, with the recent listing of Richard in a deed as Richard, Senr., we have for the 1820 St. Helena Census: Males: over 45 Richard Williams (or an older relative or hired hand; Richard should have been 39 or 40 at this time) Son by previous marriage? 10-15 Brother? Employee? This could be Samuel who married Armenta Staples. Richard had a son named Samuel born in 1832. Under 10 John P. Williams, b. 1817, md. Harriette Staples Under 10 Francis, b. 1818, md. Dicy _______ Under 10 (?) Richard, Jr. Females: 26-44 Nancy Strother, b. 1789 to 1794 in Georgia Under 10 Probably Elizabeth who married Thomas H. Roddy Under 10 ? As far as I know, the statement was made that Richard Williams married Nancy Strother about 1817 in view of the idea that Francis was their oldest child. I think it likely that they married before 1815 and that all the children under 10 were Nancy's. From: National Archives, Washington, D.C. File Designation: William Strother, 1855 Rejected BLOT 278550, War of 1812 On 24 April 1851 William Strother applied in St. Helena Par., La. for bounty land in connection with his service in the War of 1812. He was then 66 and said he was a private in company commanded by Capt. William Watson in the Regiment of the La. Militia commanded by Col. Abner Womack and later transferred to the company under Capt. T. Bickham. He entered service about 10 December 1814 and was discharged about 10 Mar. 1815 after helping in defense of the Navy Yard at Madisonville, St. Tammany Parish. Warrant for 40 acres (valued at about $50.00) was issued, but William was dead by that time. The warrant was listed in a petition made by Lewis H. Venables (a son-in-law of William Strother's) of 22 March 1853 asking for administration and inventory. Listed in these records were Faithew, William's widow, and three minor heirs, Martha, Richard and Pamelia. The older heirs were not names. (This information from Succession Records of St. Helena Par., Russ Williams) 20 June 1857 Faithew was living in Trinity Co., Texas and applied for an augmentation of this warrant (No. 72713). She said they were married 18 Mar. 1818 in St. Helena Par., La. and that he died on 11 May 1851. William Watson, also of Trinity Co., stated he knew her and her husband when she was a child in St. Helena Par. and that in 1857 he was living 5 miles from her in Trinity Co. The second request for warrant appears to have been rejected. 1850 St. Helena Census: Listed as a mechanic and as Family No. 37: William Strother, 65, M, Ga.
