Edward Tate recalls that his brother Hilary was a Boy Scout and brought a bugle home to learn to play. Edward taught himself to play the bugle. This was about 1920. Montpelier Boy Scout Troop #426 was organized about 1958 with Jim Kitchens, pastor of Montpelier Baptist Church, as the first Scout Leader. Bill Dykes assisted with Scouts for many years, earning the Silver Beaver Award in February, 1974. Other men who served as Scout Master included Richard Hill, Hilary Watson, Bil Byrd, Bryan Dykes, Bill Hamberlin, Louis Glenn Webb, Lewis Warren and Ken Easley. This was a very active troop with camping trips, outings and joint camping at Camp Avondale, near Clinton, Louisiana. The Troop is no longer active. ********
