     The origin of the name Montpelier has never been determined

exactly, but the name is shared with at least seven other towns/

cities.  These are located in Indiana, North Dakota, Vermont,

Ohio, Idaho, Canada and France.  At the 150th anniversary of

the founding of Montpelier, Indiana, the Mayor of that city in-

vited "all of the Montpelier mayors in the world" to help his

city celebrate.  Mayor Bryan Dykes, along with his wife Gloria,

were among the celebrants during September, 1986.
