Tate and published by St. Helena Historical Association, 1993. Reprinted with permission. The Village of Montpelier was incorporated June 3, 1957 while Earl K. Long was serving as Governor of the State. City Hall was housed in the white frame school building from the time the town was incorporated until the move to its present location in approximately 1974. The Town Hall, Montpelier Volun- teer Fire Dept., and the voting precinct are located in the form- er all-black school building. The town has a lease from the owner Sam. F. Morgan, Jr. for -- years. The Village has owned at least three cars which are used as police cars. They are equipped with lights and a siren. Driven by the Town Marshall, he is authorized to enforce speed limits and other laws of the Village. In 1975, Montpelier Volunteer Fire Dept. was organized, a Charter written and filed with the Secretary of State. The following officers were elected to serve: Willie Lewis, Jr., President and Fire Chief; Ken Easley, Vice-President and Assist- ant Fire Chief; Delmar Bennett, Secretary-Treasurer. On July 14, 1975, the Town adopted a resolution recognizing "the Montpelier Volunteer Department as the official Fire Fighting Unit for this area." A fire truck was bought soon after. Fire chiefs who have served: Willie Lewis, Jr., Lamon Ard, W.S. Manchester and Brad Davis. Those who have attended LSU Firemen Training Courses: Eddie L. Ard, Bradley P. Davis, Gary L.
