Compiled and edited by Inez Bridges Tate and reprinted with permission. Willie L. Frazier (Bill) was born and raised in the Red Bluff Community. He graduated from Oakland High School in 1938. Following graduation, he worked on the family farm and did some construction work on a power line that went from Amite to Natchez, Mississippi. Bill was drafted into the Army on September 13, 1941, re- porting to Camp Livingston near Shreveport then to Camp Shelby, Mississippi. Basic training was at a camp near Macon, Georgia. He was in Macon when Pearl Harbor was bombed and war was declar- ed. Additional training was at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. At Fort Jackson, he recalls that he saw and visited with Wilmer (Tut) Blades. He was then sent to Camp Kilmer, New Jersey and then boarded a troop ship for Scotland. He then went into England where he was a medical aid man in a hospital. Bill went into Paris after D Day and also to Bordeaux, France. He was assigned to a hospital helping to treat the sick and wounded. While in France, Bill saw Charlie Ray Allen and Clifton Lee, both home boys that he was mighty glad to see. On his discharge is noted the following: "Battles and Campaigns: Northern France; Rhineland. Decorations: Amer Def Med; ATO Med; EAMETO Med; Good Conduct Med; World War II Vic Med; Foreign Service: 1 year, 9 months, 6 days." Bill returned to the United States on a troop ship and traveled to Camp Shelby, Mississippi where he received his discharge on December 2, 1945. Returning to St. Helena, he farmed for while and worked for the Highway Department on a district level. He retired from the Highway Department in 1973. Bill and a newphew, Albert Frazier are partners in a dairy operation. He enjoys rabbit hunting and visiting relatives and friends in the community. Bill is a member of the American Legion Post in Greensburg and is a life- time member of Center Methodist Church. An affable, well-liked person, Bill is a bachelor. - - - - - Newspaper Clippings: 3 Jan 1942 Pvt. Willie L. Frazier of Fort Jackson, South Carolina, is spend- ing his furlough with friends and relatives of the First Ward. 25 Feb 1944 Pvt. Willie L. Frazier of Fort Jackson, S.C., spent a 10-day fur- lough recently with his relatives and friendss. Pvt. Frazier recently received a good conduct medal. He is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack Frazier of the First Ward. 31 Mar 1944 Pvt. Willie Frazier of Liverpool, is now somewhere in England and has been in the U.S. Army for the past three years. Pvt. Frazier is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Frazier. * * * * *
