Compiled and edited by Inez Bridges Tate and reprinted with permission. Homer P. Garrison was born on August 4, 1926 near Dennis Mills. He was the son of Charles and Jessie Craft Garrison. His maternal grandparents were Homer and Rosa Calmes Craft, who lived all their lives in St. Helena Parish. Homer was in the Naval Air Force, entering service in 1943. After his basic training, he attended Gunnery School and was assigned the position as tail gunner. On his first mission in the South Pacific on Wake Island, his plane joined a squadron of nine planes. His squadron was on test run in a PB-4Y2 (Army converted B-24). Their mission was to drop the bombs and return to their base. Homer's plane had not dropped all the bombs on board. The others returned to base. Homer's crew radioed in that they were gonig to make another run to drop the bombs a- board. His plane never returned. They were never heard from again. This information came from a you Navy man that was in Homer's Squadron and knew what had happened. A memorial service was held for the young man at Hebron Baptist Church. Information provided by Virginia Calmes Phillips, a cousin. * * * * *
