Compiled and edited by Inez Bridges Tate and reprinted with permission. Albert James Pittman grew up in Montpelier. In the 1910 U.S. Census for St. Helena Parish, Ward 4, he is listed in the home of his parents, John T. and Irene Pittman. His age is shown as 5. His father's occupation is "working on the rail- road." In the 1920 U.S. Census for St. Helena Parish we gather the following: J.T. Pittman, head of household, age 49, farmer; Irene, wife, age 45; James age 15; Earl age 10; Wilmer age 6 and Carl age 4. James had attended school during the year. Census taken January 6, 1920. James attended school at Montpelier. He was a member of Montpelier Baptist Church and from church records we note: "James Pittman was killed on November 8, 1943 while serving with the Army in Europe." A nephew, Johnnie Pittman, who lives in Virginia was con- tacted. He had no information concerning his uncle except he heard he was killed in France. * * * * *
