The private letter printed below explains itself fully: April 20, 1891 Mrs. Mary Ratliff, Raymond Kind Lady-I am the little soldier boy you took from the Edwards Depot hospital in 1862 home with you, and I always will believe you saved my life. I would have written to you long ago, but heard you left your home during the war; so I didnít know where to direct a letter to; but not long ago I heard there was one, Mr.Wm. Ratliff, living in Raymond, so I thought I would write and see if you were the same. If so, after 29 years, let me thank you again for your kindness. I would be glad to hear from you and know that you have had a pleasant time since the war, for such has not been mine. Please excuse bad writing and spelling, for the war caused me to get no education; but remember kind deeds are never forgotten. I am, as ever- Yours respectfully, Thomas A. Bickham, Greensburg, St. Helena par., La.
