She lived there with her daughter and son-in-law, Bernadine and Wes Cantrell, for the last 31/2 years, and was a former longtime resident of the Hillsdale community near Amite, the place of her birth May 11, 1912. Her parents were Minnie and Blanche Newell. There were seven siblings, all deceased now. She was saved and baptized in the Tickfaw River and grew up in service to her church and community. Her service to others was the theme of her life as she cooked, sewed, gardened and canned food and cut hair, all for the benefit of others. She married James Edward Bigner on Oct. 23, 1935, and was widowed in 1963. She is survived by her daughter, four married grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. The celebration service for her homegoing will be at Hillsdale Baptist Church, Hillsdale, on Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at 10 a.m., with interment immediately following in the adjoining cemetery. Family visitation will be at the church the night before, Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Let us not mourn her passing, but praise the Lord for her presence these many years and celebrate her homegoing.
