ARTICLES OF AGREEMENT Articles of agreement made the sixteenth day of August 1814 between Willis Watson of the Parish of St. Helena of the one part and David Kemp of the same Parish of the second part viz. Article 1st. The said WIllis Watson agrees to cut the logs and build a log house for the said David Kemp on his lot in Mont- pelier in said Parish to be forty-six feet long by eighteen feet wide the logs to be hewn inside and out. To be composed of two rooms or pens leaving a gallery of ten feet wide the whole length of the house with a bolted door in front. Two rooms of ten feet square to be built of rough weather boarding on one of the gal- leries. To be one story and a half. To have seven doors and seven windows with batten doors and shutters with proper facings. The lower floor of one of the large rooms with the gallery and entry to be dressed and laid together with a plain joist. The re- mainder of the lower flooring to be laid rough with a plain joist. The upper flooring to be laid rough. The joist of the two large rooms and galleries to be dressed and set into the joist plate. The whole to be covered with boards of three feet three inches long of good heart boards to be hung with pins and made tight. The whole to be finished in three months from this sale. Article 2. David Kemp is to furnish only the plank, sawed -------, hinges and nails necessary for the house and to provide a sufficient number of hands to assist one day in raising the house. All hauling of logs or lumber for the house shall be done by said David Kemp. Article 3rd. The said Willis Watson promises that all the above mentioned work shall be faithfully done in a workmanlike manner. And also that he will build on the same lot a kitchen of sixteen by eighteen feet with a wood chimney to built of logs scraped (?) inside and out with a door and shutters and calim roof, to be finished at the above mentioned period. Article 4. The said Davis Kemp promises to pay said Willis Watson two hundred and fifty dollars which is to be in full of the above work as soon as the same is completed.
