Mrs. Stifft was stricken with typhoid fever shortly before the Christmas holidays, and at first rallied from the attack. However, about two weeks ago her illness became so pronounced that she was moved to the Hotel Dieu on advice of the family physician. Complications set in and the patient gradually declined into her last sleep, the final scene in her drama of life being enacted at 7:30 o'clock Tuesday evening. Mrs. Stifft, whose age was thirty-two years, was the daughter of A. M. Sobral, of this city, and the late Emily Gonzales Sobral. She was born on Oak Alley plantation in St. James parish, formerly the property of her father, and since her marriage about nine years ago had resided in New Orleans, where her husband is a well-known lawyer and notary. Endowed with a bright, cultured mind and prepossessing physical attractions, her intellect won the praise and admiration of all who knew her, while her personal charm and gracious disposition won their warmest affection and esteam (sic). The wide circle of relatives, friends and acquaintances bereaved by her untimely taking away would feel their loss to be unbearable, were it not for the comforting knowledge that her sweet influence will live forever in the hearts of all whose good fortune it was to be associated with her. The funeral took place at 3:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus in St. Charles avenue, interment being made in Metairie cemetery. A throng of sorrowing friends filled the spacious church and with grief-bowed heads and saddened hearts joined in the final obsequies at the grave, thus giving silent testimonial of their love and remembrance. Besides her venerable father and devoted husband, Mrs. Stifft is survived by a sister, Miss Jacinta Sobral, of Donaldsonville, and one brother, Joseph Sobral. To these afflicted ones heartfelt sympathy is extended in their sad bereavement.
