Father Julliet, of St. John the Baptist church, of Edgard, officiated at the residence and the church, which was draped in heavy mourning. The funeral took place from his residence. The body, followed by every benevolent association in the parish, with furled banners and many sorrowing friends, was borne to the Catholic church, where high mass was read. Father Julliet delivered an eloquent eulogy on the life work of the deceased, and spoke words of consolation to the bereaved family. A large number of people from the parishes of St. James and St. Charles attended. Hon. C. A. Bourgeois, L. Como, C. C. A. Stevens, C. Vidal of Baton Rouge, Ed Barnes and E. Duconge, of this city, were honorary pallbearers. At the church were a large number of the white citizens and officials of the parish. 2nd. Obit: The St. Charles Herald. (Hahnville, La.) 1873-1993, April 21, 1900, Image 2 Henry Demas, the colored politician known all over the country, died at 8 o'clock Thursday morning at his residence in New Orleans, 1712 Canal street. The remains were shipped to Edgar, St. John parish, and will be buried from the Catholic Church of that place, tomorrow (Sunday) noon. The deceased was 52 years of age. He leaves a wife and three children - two sons and a daughter.
