He was the husband of Lois Wegener Dicharry and father of Sharon Poche and Gerald "Joe" Jr., Fred and Philip Dicharry. He was the son of the late Benjamin and Felicie Donaldson Dicharry and brother of Margie Martin, Geraldine Remondet, Dorothy Guidry, Elaine Tramonte, Merlyn, Roy, Carey and Ralph Dicharry and the late Floriene Jacob and Allen, B.J., Lloyd and Donald Dicharry. He is survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, past Commander of American Legion Post Commander and member of VFW Post 5852 and a retired printer for L'Observateur. Services were Aug. 31 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at the church mausoleum. JENKINS NEW SARPY - James "Sleepy" Jenkins Sr., 80, a native of Norco and resident of New Sarpy, died Aug. 27. He was the husband of Artemease Douglas Jenkins and father of Shirley McDade, Mary Young, Martha Williams, Charlotte Smith, Sharon Thomatis, Laverne Dees, Patrician Pollard, Geraldine, James Jr., Donald Jenkins and the late Wilbert Moore. He was the son of the late Leana Jackson and Samuel Jenkins and brother of Charlie Jenkins and the late Velina Sanchez and Samuel, Joseph, Wilson and Rufus Jenkins. He is survived by 31 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew's Baptist Church, New Sarpy, with interment at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose. Visitation starts at 10 a.m. MILES LAPLACE - Una Mae Miles, 63, a native of Thibodaux and resident of Reserve for many years, died Aug. 24. She was the wife of the late Samuel Miles and mother of Althea Favorite, Janet England and Karen, Alana, Fredrick, Johnny and the late Aaron and Vera Miles. She was the daughter of the late Nelson and Vera Clark Lestrick and sister of Essie Mae Frank, Evelyn Johnson and John Lestrick. She is survived by 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services were Aug. 31 at Milesville Memorial Church of God in Christ, LaPlace, with interment at Zion Travelers Cemetery, Lions. POCHE CONVENT - Allen J. "Jack" Poche Sr., 73, a resident of Hester, died Aug. 27. He was the husband of the late Margaret "Maggie" Poche and father of Gwen Bourgeois and Robbie Sr. and Allen Poche Jr. He was the son of the late Leonard and Helen Poche and brother of Shirley Murry, Ruby Acosta, Margaret Stein and Russell, Robert, Clarence and the late Leonard Poche Jr. He is survived by 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Services were Aug. 30 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Convent, with interment at the church mausoleum. SCOTT DES ALLEMANDS - Ernest J. Scott, 59, a native and resident of Des Allemands, died Aug. 25. He was the husband of Barbara Williams Scott and father of Valerie Bocage and Sharrone Scott. He was the son of the late Harry Sr. and Dorothy K. Scott and brother of Everline Turner and Shirley, Harry Jr., Irvin Sr., Nathaniel Sr., Lawrence Sr. and the late Marguriete Scott. VINNETT NEW ORLEANS - Oscar Vinnett Jr., 83, a native of St. Rose and resident of New Orleans for 65 years, died Aug. 26. He was the husband of Margaret Vinnett, by first marriage; Mary Victor Vinnett, by second marriage; and father of Delores Brown, Terri Ann Brown and Oscar and Jerry Vinnett. He was the brother of Audrey Eugene, Cora Anderson and August, Wilbert and Curtis Vinnett. He is survived by 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Services were Aug. 30 at Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church, New Orleans, with interment at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. WOODS SOUTH VACHERIE - Hymel "Mel" Woods, 67, a native and resident of Vacherie, died Aug. 23. He was the husband of Anita Dumas Woods and father of Nannette Young, Lisa Schexnayder, Leslie Johnson, Amos, Deval and Barry Woods. He was the son of the late Wilson Sr. and Cleona Lewis Woods, and brother of Altas and Wilson Woods Sr., and the late Mary Isom, Frances Keller and Harry Woods. He is survived by seven grandchildren. YOUNG EDGARD - Louis "Lolly Pop" Young, 74, a native and resident of Edgard, died Aug. 27. CLAYTON PAULINA - Jerry Mae Clayton, 47, a native of Dorseyville and resident of Paulina for 30 years, died Aug. 30. She was the wife of Rodney Clayton Sr. and mother of Dannisha, Dominique, Gabrielle and Rodney Clayton Jr. and Charlton Jackson. She is survived by two grandchildren. Martel, 83, a native of Eunice and resident of LaPlace for 10 years, died Sept. 2. She was the mother of John, Shirley, Joy and the late Nason LeJeune. OUBRE EDGARD - Oliver Joseph "Tweety" Oubre, 54, a native of Vacherie and resident of Edgard, died Aug. 31. He was the husband of Vernadine Kelly-Oubre and father of You'Cha and You'Nekia Oubre. He was the son of the late Paul Sr. and Theresa Isom Oubre and brother of Paul Jr. and Marguerite Oubre, Theresa Johnson and Gabriel and Gilbert Oubre. Visitation starts at 8 a.m. RICKS NEW ORLEANS - Sylvia St. Pierre Ricks, 65, a native of Des Allemands and resident of Gretna for 27 years, died Aug. 28. She was the wife of Kent Ricks and mother of Michelle Stephens and Michael Ricks. She was the sister of Ethel Ledet, Rita Derouen and Paul and Warren St. Pierre. She was preceded in death by one grandchild. She was a retired bookkeeper, co-owner of Rick's Printing and was a member of the Optimist Club, Rotary Club and Italian-American Society of Jefferson. Services were Sept. 4 in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, Algiers, with interment at St. John Cemetery. SCHEXNAYDRE UNION - Rosa F. Schexnaydre, 77, a native of Waggaman and resident of Convent, died Sept. 1. She was the wife of Oleus Schexnaydre Sr. and mother of Lorain Landry and Marie, Timothy and Oleus "Rusty" Schexnaydre Jr. She was the daughter of the late Louis Isley and Octavie Waguespack Faucheux, sister of the late Norman Faucheux and half-sister of the late Lillian Gauthreaux, Eunice Bordelon and Roche Faucheux. She is survived by two stepgrandchildren. She was retired from the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service, now known as the Farm Service Agency, where she served St. James Parish farmers for 38 years. Services were Sept. 3 at St. Mary's Chapel, Union, with interment at St. Mary's Cemetery. TREADAWAY DES ALLEMANDS - Wayne "Butch" Treadaway, 58, a native of Luling and resident of Des Allemands for 22 years, died Sept. 2. He was the husband by first marriage of the late Rory Bailey Treadaway and by second marrage of Gail Morales Treadaway and father of Keri Neese and Stacey, Grady and Derek Treadaway. He was the son of Elsie Chaisson Treadaway and the late Manuel Treadaway and brother of Jan, Rodney and Corey Treadaway. He is survived by two stepdaughters, three stepsons, 13 step-grandchildren and five grandchildren. Services were Sept. 4 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Des Allemands, with interment at the Mennonite Cemetery, Des Allemands. 09/08/01 BOUDOIN EDGARD - Joseph Louis Boudoin, 78, a native of Edgard and resident of New Orleans, died Aug. 30. He was the husband of the late Louverther Boudoin and father of Cynthia Borne, Gwendolyn LaFrance, Loubertha Pierre, Gregory Barrow and Michael, Joseph Jr. and Julius Boudoin. He was the son of the late Salvio and Eunice Boudoin and brother of Gustavia Jones, Geraldine Smith, Margaret Dumas, Jessie Mae Keller, Louise Laurent and Francis, Gerald Sr. and the late Albert Boudoin Sr. He is survived by 42 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. Services were Sept. 6 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at the church cemetery. BRIGHT ST. JAMES - Alice M. Bright, 68, a native of Vacherie and resident of Lutcher, died Aug. 31. She was the mother of Stella LeBlanc, Cathelina Isom and Louise, Joyce, Ungeller and the late Elaine Bright. She was the sister of the late Maude Gray and Arthur Thomas. She is survived by nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services are today at noon at St. Luke Baptist Church, St. James, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 9 a.m. BRIGNAC NORCO - Karen Weber Brignac, 30, a native of New Orleans and resident of Norco, died Sept. 2. She was the wife of Chad Brignac and mother of Jadelynn McKay and Walker Michael Brignac. She was the daughter of Perrin Jr. and Catherine Duhe Weber and sister of Duane and the late Derrin Weber. BROWN LUTCHER - Rance Brown, 19, a native of Garyville and resident of Metairie for six months, died Aug. 31. He was the son of Rickie Brown and Anthony Isom Sr. and brother of Rashide Swafford, Paul Isom Jr. and Reydaishune Brown. He was the companion of Romana Ferdinand. He is survived by grandparents Charles Swafford Sr., Murphy Isom Jr., Ophelia White and the late Marion Ross and by his stepgrandmother Brenda Swafford. BROWN NEW ORLEANS - Tiah Brown, 5 months, a native and resident of St. James, died Aug. 21. She was the daughter of Wanda Joshua and Tim Brown of St. James and sister of Joses Bell and Cody Foster. She was the grandchild of David and Jo Ann Albert Joshua of St. James and Iolla Brown of Donaldsonville. She was also the great-grandchild of Beatrice Brown of Donaldsonville. Graveside services were held Aug. 24 at St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, Resurrection Mausoleum, New Orleans. BRYANT DES ALLEMANDS - Joyce P. Bryant, 59, a native of Corinth, Miss., and longtime resident of Des Allemands, died Sept. 4. She was the companion of 23 years of Raymond Derouen and mother of Veronica Bivins, Janice Standlee, Kay Hayden, Nicole Stockle, Annette, Monica and Chris Derouen and Rebecca and David Bryant. She is survived by 12 grandchildren. Services were Sept. 7 at Des Allemands Mennonite Church, Des Allemands, with interment at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Des Allemands. HOOVER METAIRIE - Therese Brignac Hoover, 95, a native of Paulina and resident of Metairie for 48 years, died Sept. 5. She was the wife of the late Leonard C. Hoover. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Irma Poche Brignac and sister of the late Clara Gonzales, Eloise Mack, Odette Bolten and Omer, Horace, Lawrence, Edward, Lowell and Arthur Brignac. She was an executive secretary for Winn-Dixie for 30 years. Services were Sept. 7 in the chapel of Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at Garden of Memories Cemetery. JONES MT. AIRY - Fredna Cowart Cumbie Jones, 71, a native of Green County, Miss., and resident of Mt. Airy for 29 years, died Sept. 6. She was the mother of Georgia Wood, Fredie Vicknair, Tomie and Fritz Cumbie and the late Karen Boe. She is survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Private services will be held at a later date. LeGRANDE LULING - Joseph C. "J.C." LeGrande, 80, a native of White Castle and resident of Paradis, died Sept. 2. He was the husband of Beatrice Boyer LeGrande and father of Gilda Rachel and the late Mark LeGrande. He was the son of the late Christopher and Aurella LeGrande and brother of Mildred Carbo, Joyce Landry and the late Eldora Fonseca and Earl LeGrande. He is survived by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Memorial services were Sept. 7 at First Union Presbyterian Church, Luling, with private interment. OUBRE SOUTH VACHERIE - Gertrude R.P. Oubre, 94, a native of Lutcher and resident of South Vacherie, died Aug. 30. She was the wife of the late Wilbert Oubre Sr., mother of Imelda Gros, Jeanne Armstrong, Gertrude Douglas, Jerome and Wilbert Oubre Jr. and stepmother of Lillie Rowe and the late Wilfred "Bobby" Oubre. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth Brown Payne and sister of Dora Ford, Daisy Morgan, Florence Payne and the late Melvina Hall, Sarah Turead, Olivia Cureau and Aaron, George, Louis and Daniel Payne. She is survived by 24 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandchild. She was a retired schoolteacher. ST. PIERRE PAULINA - Winsley J. "Pop" St. Pierre, 80, a native and resident of Grand Point, died Sept. 3. He was the husband of Grace Louque St. Pierre and father of Drema Cambre, Penny Elfer and Ronald, Barry, Winsley Jr. and Reed St. Pierre. He was the son of the late Athanas and Rita St. Pierre and brother of Mildred Poche, Rena Bridges, Robbley St. Pierre and the late Gertie Webre and Larry, Eddie, Norris, Roger, Elvire and Neva St. Pierre. He is survived by 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandchild. He was a retired sugar cane farmer with Winsley St. Pierre & Sons Inc. Services were Sept. 6 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at the church mausoleum. TORRES NORCO - Imelda Simon Torres, 95, a native of St. Joseph and resident of Norco for 66 years, died Sept. 3. She was the wife of the late Charles Torres Sr. and mother of Charles Jr., Larry and the late Marc Torres. She was the daughter of the late Edme and Edvige Rodrigue Simon and sister of the late Martha Brignac, Ludivine Cambre, Inez DeJean and Andre, Edme Jr., Sidney and Wallace Simon. She is survived by four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandchild. She was the wife of Arthur "A.D." Bissell and mother of Elizabeth Watts, Cindy Ochsner, Tammy Martin, Gaylynn Elliott and Charles, Larry, Gary and the late Michael Bissell. She was the daughter of Louella Reynolds Matthews and the late William Tillie and sister of Geneva Simon, Marie Baker, Durainey Rawls, Kathy Matthews and Harmon, William and Allen Tillie. She is survived by 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services were Sept. 10 at Lee Valley Baptist Church, Uneedus, with interment at the church cemetery. BLACK WESTWEGO - Albertha "Lil Bert" Black, 78, a native of St. James Parish and resident of Westwego, died Sept. 8. She was the wife of the late Ivory Black Sr. and mother of Charlene Alexander and Denise, Ivory Jr., Reginald, and the late Renell Black. She was the daughter of the late James and Olevia Kennedy and sister of Celia Scott and the late Carol Tarver, Ruth Hogan and Audrey Kennedy. She is survived by 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Services were Sept. 11 at True Vine Baptist Church, Westwego, with interment at Restlawn Cemetery, Avondale. CURRY BATON ROUGE - Freddy Curry Sr., 75, a native of Gramercy and resident of Baton Rouge, died Sept. 4. He was the husband of the late Alice Woods Curry and father of Lois Isaac, Glenda James, Bernadette Parker, Linda Williams and Sharon, Freddy Jr., Vincent and David Curry. He was the companion of Deloris McKnight. He was the son of the late Percy Sr. and Mamie Curry and brother of Clara Seaberry and Alma, Mary, Percy Jr., James, Earl and the late Margie Curry. He is survived by 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was a concrete finish foreman with LSU. Services were Sept. 11 at New Rising Sun Baptist Church, Baton Rouge, with interment at Stockade Cemetery. EVANS NEW ORLEANS - Rex W. Evans, 76, a native of Jamestown and resident of LaPlace for 39 years, died Sept. 5. He was the husband of Katherine Nielsen Evans and father of Myrtle Perilloux, Audrey and Peter Evans. He was the brother of Lucille Allen. He is survived by three grandchildren. He was a retired accountant and an Army Air Force veteran of World War II in the China-Burma-India Theatre, with three Bronze Stars. Private services were held in the chapel of Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, New Orleans. A musical memorial service will be held in October in St. John the Baptist Parish. TREGLE DES ALLEMANDS - Rosemary LeBlanc Tregle, 81, a native and resident of Des Allemands, died Sept. 10. She was the wife of the late Landry B. Tregle Sr. and mother of Melazie Martindale and Westley and the late Norton and Landry Tregle Jr. She was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Viola Dufrene LeBlanc and sister of Ray LeBlanc and the late Wanda Savoie and Bernice and Hubert LeBlanc.
