DARENSBOURG
NEW ORLEANS - Joseph L. Darensbourg, 89, a native of Killona and resident of New Orleans
for most of his life, died Sept. 27. He was the father of Lois Edgerson and Jean Jones.
He was the brother of Alberta Williams.
He is survived by 19 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 2 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, New Orleans, with interment at
Restlawn Memorial Park.

KIROUAC
PAULINA - Jacques Pierre "Jack" Kirouac, 81, a native of Sherbrooke, Canada, and resident of
Grand Point, died Sept. 27. He was the husband of Mathilde Poeshl Kirouac and father of Linda
Martin, Vivian Miles, Sharon Posey, Christine Heisserer and Dennis and Gary Kirouac.
He was the son of the late Pierre and Elphonsine Joliceour Kirouac and brother of Jeannine
Pattison, Rolande Pickett and Gustave Kirouac. He was preceded in death by nine brothers and
sisters.
Services were Oct. 1 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at St. Peter
Cemetery, Reserve.

NAQUIN
DESTREHAN - Gertrude Agnes "Cotton" Naquin, 83, a native of Garyville and resident of
Destrehan, died Sept. 28. She was the wife of 62 years of Harold Naquin Sr. and mother of H.S.
"Butch" Jr. and Adrian E. "Chippy" Naquin.
She was the daughter of the late Edward Sr. and Claudia Melancon Haydel and sister of the late
Bertha Guidry, Eunice Morales and Edward Haydel Jr.
Services were Oct. 1 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Destrehan, with interment at the
church mausoleum.

POWELL
NORCO - Mitchell "Mike" Jones Powell, 72, a native of Haines City, Fla., and resident of
Reserve, died Sept. 29. He was the husband of Marjorie D. Powell and father of Linda
Delaneuville, Shirley Addison and Michael and James Powell.
He was the son of the late Mitchell Sr. and Effie Douglas Powell and brother of Gerald Powell.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and six infant brothers and sisters.
He is survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services are today at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of H.C. Alexander Funeral Home, Norco, with
graveside services at Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, Miss., at 1:30 p.m. Visitation starts at 8
a.m.

STASSI
HAMMOND - Vincent Argo Stassi, 87, a native and resident of Hammond, died Oct. 1.
He was the husband of Rose Dantone Stassi and father of Mary Ann Margiotta of Hammond and
Linda Stassi-Faulk of LaPlace.
He was the son of the late Charles and Mary Ann DeMarco Stassi and brother of Tony and the
late Joe and John Stassi.
He is survived by four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was the owner of The Brown Door in Hammond.
Services are today at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Hammond, with interment at
Rose Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

RESERVE - Violet Boudreaux Duhe, 83, a native and resident of Reserve, died Oct. 4. She was
the wife of the late Maurice Duhe.
She was the sister of Lydie Ockman and the late Thomas and Elmore Boudreaux.
Services were Oct. 5 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, with interment at the church
cemetery.

HEMMELDER
KENNER - Frederick "Black" Hebert Hemmelder, 77, a native of St. Rose and resident of River
Ridge for 35 years, died Oct. 2. He was the husband of Audrey Gamlen Hemmelder and father of
Maury Parker, Sheryl Rogers and Wayne, Chris and Frederick Hemmelder Jr.
He was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Yochim Hemmelder and brother of Mary Burger,
Catherine Spinato and the late Thelma Vitrano, Henrietta Larroux and Cyril, Joseph "Tank" and
Anthony "Boo" Hemmelder.
He is survived by six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
He was a graduate of Kenner High School and was the second person hired for the original
Kenner Police Department. He was a member of the Kenner football team and a U.S. Army
veteran of World War II. He was a retired employee of Falstaff Brewing Co. and retired co-owner
of Beacon Air & Heating co.
Services were Oct. 5 in the chapel of L.A. Muhleisen and Son Funeral Home, Kenner, with
interment at Garden of Memories.

HENDERSON
ST. JAMES - Eazley Scionneaux Henderson, 93, a native of St. James and resident of Thibodaux,
died Oct. 4. She was the wife of the late Thomas "Jack" Henderson.
She was the daughter of the late Wilson and Cecile Laiche Scionneaux and sister of the late Nelva
Falgoust, Adless Benson and Schley and Harton Scionneaux.
She is survived by a niece, Thelma Smith, and a nephew, Fernand "Bud" Falgoust.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, St. James, with interment at the
church cemetery. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

NASSAR
METAIRIE - Joyce Mae Bourgeois Nassar, 70, a native of Dutchtown and resident of Metairie
for 48 years, died Oct. 2. She was the wife of 53 years of Michael Nassar Sr. of Convent and
mother of Michael Jr. of Destrehan, Maxie of Destrehan and Ronald Nassar of Alexandria, Va.
She was the daughter of the late Felesien "Shank" Bourgeois and Josephine "Sis" Bourgeois
Nersch and sister of Doris Hymel.
She is survived by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were Oct. 4 in the chapel of Lake Lawn Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at
Metairie Cemetery.

PARKER
PAULINA - Curley "Curt" Parker, 75, a native of Fayette, Miss., and resident of Paulina for many
years, died Oct. 1. He was the husband of the late Clara Kirklin Parker and father of Stella
Johnson, Robyn Gregoire, Alvin Williams and Michael, Stephone and Curley Parker Jr.
He was the son of the late Will and Lucille Parker Green and the brother of four brothers and two
sisters.
He is survived by 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Baptist Church, Paulina, with interment at Antioch
Cemetery, Paulina. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

TREGRE
NORCO - Yohanna Rita "Hannie" Tregre, 60, a native and resident of Norco, died Oct. 2. She
was the daughter of Rita Faye Tregre and the late Robert J. Tregre and sister of Carol Bean, Janet
Beber, Margaret Chauvin, Joy Tregre and the late Chrystal Tregre.
She is survived by seven nieces, two great-nephews and five great-nieces.
Services were Oct. 4 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Norco, with interment at St.
Charles Borromeo Mausoleum, Destrehan.

VICKNAIR
LAPLACE - Whitney J. "Spike" Vicknair Sr., 80, a native and resident of LaPlace, died Oct. 1.
He was the husband of Annabel Jacob Vicknair and father of Susan Johnson, Julie Dunn, Ronald
and Whitney Vicknair Jr. and the late Vicki Vicknair and Patricia Miller.
He was the brother of Esther Millet, Wallace Jr., Roy and Lesley Vicknair and the late Maria
Duhe.
He is survived by 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 5 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment at St. John
Memorial Gardens Cemetery, LaPlace.

HAHNVILLE - Lawrence Davis Sr., 64, a native of Boutte and resident of Killona for 30 years,
died Oct. 5.
He was the husband of Caldonia Brown Davis and father of Susan Poree, Evelina Diggs and
Michele, Lawrence Jr., Leroy, Michael, Anthony and Andrew Davis.
He was the brother of Theresa Fiffee, Evelyn Alexander, Elizabeth King, Bobbie Sandolph and
Larry, Edward, Joe Jr., Isaac and Otis Davis.
He is survived by 17 grandchildren.
Services are today at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Robottom Mortuary, Hahnville, with interment at
Bethlehem Cemetery, Hahnville. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.

LUTCHER - Melvin "Mel" Philip Duhe, 58, a native of Gramercy and resident of Metairie for
most of his life, died Oct. 6. He was the son of the late Norman and Elizabeth Gray Duhe and
brother of Ione Killian and Norman, Gilbert, Ronald and the late Michael Duhe.
Services are today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of H.C. Alexander Funeral Home, Lutcher, with
interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Paulina. Visitation starts at noon.

PIERCE
PAULINA - Annie Mae Louviere Pierce, 88, a native of New Iberia and resident of Paulina, died
Oct. 8. She was the wife of the late Earl Pierce and mother of Lois Rote.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Octavia Sedotole Louviere and sister of Theresa
David, Emily Richard, L.J. Louviere and the late Ada Bonin and Adam Louviere.
She is survived by two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at Greenoaks
Cemetery, Baton Rouge. Visitation starts at 8:30 a.m.

SIMON
UNION - Lawrence A. Simon, 77, a native of Vacherie and lifelong resident of St. James Parish,
died Oct. 6. He was the husband of Mercedes "DeDees" Letulle Simon.
He was the son of the late Prudent and Olphida Simon and brother of Allen, Floyd, Neil and
Pelham Simon and the late Eunice Abadie, Blanche Poche, Rose Vilnerve, Pearl Attenhoffer and
Prudent Jr., Daniel, Vivian and Vincent Simon Sr.
Services were Oct. 8 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Union, with interment at the church
mausoleum.

SIXKILLER
METAIRIE - Jeannette Emily Trepagnier Sixkiller, 86, a native and resident of LaPlace, died Oct.
8. She was the wife of the late Jesse Sixkiller Sr., companion of Lee "Pope" Campbell, mother of
Lola Butler and Gerald "Jerry" Sixkiller and stepmother of Gladys Braniff and the late Dorothy
Braniff and Jesse Sixkiller Jr.
She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Etienne Sixkiller and sister of Nellie Powell,
Etienne "Butts" Trepagnier and the late Kathleen Carmouche, Winifred Faucheux, Leona Metzler
and Villemont and Henry Trepagnier.
She is survived by three grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by one stepgrandchild.
She was a retired doctor's assistant for 35 years.
Services are today at noon at the chapel of Lake Lawn Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at
the funeral home mausoleum. Visitation begins at 9 a.m.

TROXCLAIR
NORCO - Thaddeus "Butch" "Tootsie" Troxclair, 69, a native of New Sarpy and resident of
LaPlace, died Oct. 3. He was the husband of the late Joanne Christenson Troxclair, by first
marriage, and Patricia Brannon Troxclair, by second marriage, and father of Cindy, Chris, Cory,
Craig and Chad Troxclair.
He was the son of the late Noah and Eliska Troxclair-Simon and brother of Catherine
Waguespack, Patsy Anderson, Janice Beadle, Eliska Mosley and Malcolm, Vincent and the late
Noah "Blackie" Troxclair.
He is survived by 11 grandchildren.
He was a retired carpenter and business agent.
Services are Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Norco, with cremation to
follow.

ZERINGUE
PAULINA - Norman Peter "Tom" Zeringue, 75, a native of Uncle Sam and resident of Lutcher,
died Oct. 6.
He was the husband of Ethel Roche Zeringue and father of Renee Waguespack and Norman Jr.
and Brent Zeringue.
He was the son of the late Victor and Irene Brou Zeringue and brother of Joseph, Herman and
Eldridge "Gee" Zeringue and the late Beatrice Jacobs and Ralph and Rene "Boonie" Zeringue.
He is survived by seven grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 8 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at the church
mausoleum.

Oct. 7. He was the father of Damien Conn.

Michelle Rome, Nicole Maylon and Jeffery Arceneaux.
He was the grandson of Annette Arceneaux.

EDGARD - Dorothy "Mother" Miller Brown, 81, a native and resident of Edgard, died Oct. 6.
She was the wife of the late Paul Brown Sr. and mother of Maxine Sylvain, Jacqueline Scott,
Veronica Hebert, Ronnie Sr., Sheila and Deborah Brown and the late Sherlyn Stewart.
She was the daughter of the late Norah and Marie B. Miller and sister of Joseph Miller and the
late Lola Hebert and Wilfred Miller.
She is survived by 26 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 12 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at the
church cemetery.

VACHERIE - Lloyd Louis Clement, 76, a native of Chackbay and resident of Vacherie, died Oct.
9. He was the husband of the late Marie Cleophine Becnel Clement and father of Judith Bourgeois
and Marilyn Morvant.
He was the son of the late Claude Sr. and Alcide Rose Clement and brother of Inez Becnel,
Florence Matherne, Edward, Joseph "Jerry," George and Thomas Clement and the late Mildred
Ockmond and Elizabeth, Nell and Claude Clement Jr.
He is survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 12 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, South Vacherie, with interment at
the church cemetery.

RESERVE - Theresa Desselle Cook, 66, a native of Mt. Airy and resident of Reserve for 45
years, died Oct. 8. She was the wife of Larry Cook Sr. and mother of Julie Cook-Variste and
Karen, Larry Jr., Kevin, Durel, Daryl, Janice, Karen and the late Ronald Cook.
She was the daughter of the late Jules Sr. and Leona Desselle and sister of Inez Clayton, Ava
Reynolds, Juliette Johnson and Walter, Wilbert, Emile and the late Jules Desselle Jr.
She is survived by 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 12 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Reserve, with interment at St. Peter

GREGOIRE
KENNER - Nelson Gregoire Sr., 73, a native of St. James and resident of Kenner for 33 years,
died Oct. 8. He was the father of Gwendolyn Lee, Deborah Webb and Opal, Denise, Fredrick and
Nelson Gregoire Jr. and stepfather of Edward Brown.
He was the brother of Oneda Joseph, Geneva Stempley and Charles Gregoire.
He is survived by 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was a retired skycap with New Orleans International Airport.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Missionary Baptist Church, Kenner, with interment at
Providence Resthaven Cemetery, LaPlace. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.

MITCHELL
NEW SARPY - Larley Washington Mitchell, 69, a native and resident of New Sarpy, died Oct. 6.
She was the mother of Margret McGraw, Linda Smith, Jacquelyn and Shelia Moore, Michael and
Melvin Posey and Willie Mitchell Jr.
She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Margaret Washington, stepdaughter of Lovely
Washington and sister of Lillie, Mary, Lawrence, Wilbert, David, Anthony and Gregory
Washington.
She is survived by 50 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 11 at St. Matthew Baptist Church, New Sarpy, with interment at Jefferson
Memorial Gardens, St. Rose.

NEW ORLEANS - Spencer "Po Boy" Patterson Sr., 59, a native of Norwood and resident of
Destrehan for 46 years, died Oct. 9. He was the husband of Helen K. Patterson and father of
Angela Boykins and Spencer Jr. and Corey Patterson.
He was the son of the late Julius Sr. and Daisy Patterson and brother of Liz Bailey, Bertha Harris,
Sandra Pickens, Cynthia Lee and Roosevelt, Michael and the late Julius Patterson Jr.
He is survived by four grandchildren.
Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew Baptist Church, New Orleans, with interment at

LAPLACE - Noemie Theresa Roussel, 73, a native of Belmont and resident of LaPlace for 28
years, died Oct. 9. She was the sister of Mary Savoie.
Services were Oct. 11 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace, with interment at
St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve.

STEPHENS
NEW ORLEANS - Virginia Walker Stephens, 82, a native of Welcome and resident of New
Orleans for many years, died Oct. 9. She was the wife of the late William C. Stephens and mother
of Williams Haynes and Robert Sr., and the late Larry Stephens Sr.
She was the sister of the late Mildred Berteaux and Mitchell, Clarence Jr. and Charlie Walker.
She is survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She earned a bachelor's degree from Loyola University in accounting and was the co-owner of
Steve's Cosmetics Beauty Salon and Steve's Cosmetics for more than 30 years. She was also a
teacher at Sidney N. Collier Memorial Vocational Technical School.
Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, New Orleans, with
interment at St. Vincent Cemetery (Soniat Street). Visitation starts at 8:30 a.m.

NEW ORLEANS - The Rev. Mother Mary Hill Andrews, 82, a native of Lutcher and resident of
New Orleans for 80 years, died Oct. 9. She was the wife of Ferdinand Andrews Jr. and mother of
Althea Gardner, Helen Mitchell and Wayne Hill.
She was also the daughter of the late George and Mary Hill and sister of Douglas Hill Sr. and the
late Alberta Philip, Anna Copelin, Helen H. Mitchell, Alice Lastie and George Jr. Frank Jesse,
Walter, Robert and Nathaniel Hill.
She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and five
great-great-grandchildren.
She was an associate minister at Israelite Divine Spiritual Church of Christ.
Services were Oct. 14 at St. James Methodist Church of Louisiana, New Orleans, with interment
at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery, New Orleans.

GENDUSA
KENNER - Rosalie Caronia Gendusa, 96, a native of Italy, resident of Convent for 35 years and
resident of Metairie for 25 years, died Oct. 12. She was the wife of the late Joseph Gendusa and
mother of the late Sara Lee "Pat" Morales Dutton and Frank Gendusa.
She was also the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Caronia and sister of the late Cora
Graff, Mamie Cavallino and Joseph, Sam, Philip and Benny Caronia.
She is survived by four grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 15 in the chapel of L.A. Muhleisen and Son Funeral Home, Kenner, with
interment at Garden of Memories Cemetery.

HOLMES
NORCO - Ernest L. "Whitey" Holmes Sr., 84, a native of Reserve and resident of Norco, died
Oct. 15. He was the husband of Mary Hotard Holmes and father of Richard, Leonard "Jimmy,"
John "Coley," Will, Ernest Jr., Roger, Matt and the late Ernest Holmes.
He was also the son of the late Ernest and Bertha Alexander Holmes.
He is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 16 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Norco, with interment at St.
Charles Borromeo Cemetery, Destrehan.

PAULINA - Fannie Mae Jones, 78, a native of Convent and resident of Lutcher, died Oct. 10.
She was the wife of the late Adge Cal Jones and mother of Brenda Davis, Patricia Hayes, Maida
Daniels, Leonard Sanders, Samuel and Alvin Jones and Richard Barker.
She was also the daugher of the late Mamie Davis Albert and Alex Noel, stepdaughter of Johnny
Albert Sr., sister of Addie Cooper, Donna Wells, and stepsister of Victoria Harris, Claudia Griffin,
Ethel Breaux and Alex and George Noel. She was preceded in death by two stepsisters and three
stepbrothers.
She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 15 at Evergreen Baptist Church, Paulina, with interment at Western Cemetery,
Lutcher.

POCHE
PAULINA - Russell Joseph Poche Sr., 66, a native and resident of Paulina, died Oct. 14. He was
the husband of Vonnie Keller Poche and father of Pamela Evans, Tammy Addison and Ricky Sr.,
Russell Jr. and Chris Poche.
He was also the son of the late Leonard and Helen Schexnayder Poche and brother of Ruby
Acosta, Margaret Stein, Shirley Murray and Robert, Clarence "Todd-O" and the late Allen "Jack"
and Leonard Poche Jr.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren.
Services are Oct. 18 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at the church
mausoleum. Visitation starts tonight from 6 to 10 p.m. and tomorrow at 8 a.m.

VERDA
NEW ORLEANS - Idell Nichols Verda, 76, a native of Pine and resident of St. Rose, died Oct.
11.
She was the wife, by first marriage, of the late John Ulmo Sr. and, by second marriage, of the late
Jules Verda and mother of the late John Ulmo Jr.
She was also the daughter of the late Noah and Eva Hilborn Nichols and sister of Christine Millet,
Bertha Terrell, Syble Ladner, Roy Nichols and the late Onita Manasco, Aileen Dixon and Carl
Nichols.
Services were held Oct. 13 in the chapel of Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, New Orleans,

LULING - Louise Cazenave Champagne, 79, a native of Vacherie and resident of Luling, died
Oct. 16. She was the wife of the late James Wallace Champagne and mother of Anita Hymel.
She was also the daughter of the late Etienne and Elena Hymel Cazenave and sister of Juliette
Waguespack, Laurence Tregre, E.V. Cazenave Jr. and the late Marie Chabaud and Roland "Bud"
Cazenave.

NEW ORLEANS - Ruby Joseph Culbreth, 87, a native of St. James Parish and resident of New
Orleans, died Oct. 12. She was the wife of Michael Culbreth Sr. and mother of Constance and
Michael Culbreth Jr.
She is also survived by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were Oct. 19 at Payne Memorial AME Church, New Orleans, with interment at Lake
Lawn Park.

LUTCHER - Cecelia Lockett "Miss Pete" Ferdinand, 90, a native of Paulina and resident of
Marrero, died Oct. 13. She was the wife of the late Rev. Joshua Ferdinand and mother of Carrie
Lewis.
She was also the daughter of the late Henry Sr. and Victoria Thomas Lockett and sister of the late
Fannie and Henry Lockett Jr.

the husband of Pamela Small Gray, father of Mary Ann Gray and stepfather of Roneika Small and

He was also the son of the late Clement and Irma Charles Gray and brother of Peggy Creecy,

died Oct. 16. He was the husband of Inez Webre Hymel and father of Jerelyn Infante and Roland

He was also the son of the late Valsin and Aurelie Abadie Hymel and brother of the late Elvina
Hotard and Celima, Dervina, Elise, Hilda, Eula, George, Jules and Francis Hymel Sr.

LULING - Jeanne Zeringue Hand, 44, a native and resident of Luling, died Oct. 25. She was the
mother of Jessica Lynn Hand.

Gaubert, Angela Friloux, Gary and Gerald Zeringue and the honorary sister of Pauline Halder.
She was a student at Tulane University working on her PhD.

She was salutatorian of the Fifth Ward High School 1967 graduation class, earned a bachelor's
degree in business administration, master's degree in business administration and a law degree.
