He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services were June 1 in the chapel of Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Metairie. CANNON KILLONA - Wallace "Sonny" Cannon Jr., 64, a native of Killona and resident of New Orleans, died May 24. He was the son of the late Victoria Markey and Wallace Cannon Sr. and brother of Betty August, Mary Lewis and the late Vivian Gordon, Audrey Bartley, Delores Downing, Myrtle Woods and Charles, Sheldon Sr. and George Cannon. Services are today at 11 a.m. at Canaan Baptist Church, Killona, with interment at Restlawn Cemetery, Avondale. Visitation starts at 9 a.m. JOHNSON GRAMERCY - Evella Appledeer Johnson, 91, a native and resident of Gramercy, died May 24. She was the mother of Julie Sabate, Iona Sique, Shirley Aubert and Delores, Odessa, Tites Sr. and Isaac Johnson Jr. She is also survived by 36 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren, 32 great-great-grandchildren, 31 great-great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-great-grandchild. Services were May 30 at New Zion Full Gospel Church, Gramercy, with interment at St. Joseph Mausoleum, Paulina. LANDRY NEW ORLEANS - Alice Thompson Landry, 78, a native of Convent and resident of New Orleans, died May 27. She was the wife of the late Clarence Landry. She was also the daughter of the late Gabriel and Aline Marvigne Thompson and sister of Hilda Jordan and Beulah Block and the late Ovelia Fobb, Theresa Dennis and Freddie, Percy, Melvin and Nelson Thompson. Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Baptist Church, New Orleans, with private interment. Visitation starts at 9:30 a.m. MATHIEU EDGARD - Noah F. "Chief" Mathieu, 84, a native and resident of Lucy, died May 29. He was the husband of the late Melba Bartholomew Mathieu and father of Karen, Larry Sr., Landry and Keith Mathieu Sr. He was also the son of the late Carmel LeBeouf and Edgar Mathieu Sr. and brother of Marie McCray, Lorraine Alexis, Roy Mathieu Sr. and the late Edgar Mathieu Jr. He is also survived by six grandchildren. He was a retired paint foreman at Avondale Shipyards. Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at the church cemetery. He was the husband for 67 years of Celine Cambre Oubre and father of Amelia Matherne, Barbara Causey, Nobie Freeman and John and Pierre Oubre Jr. He was also the son of the late Rene and Odile Louquette Oubre and brother of Richard Oubre Sr. and the late Armentine Kliebert, Melba Cambre and Rene Sr., Claude Sr. and Hubert Oubre Sr. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was a retired employee of San Francisco Sugar Mill and member of the Holy Name Society. Services were June 1 at St. Hubert Catholic Church, Garyville, with interment at St. Peter Mausoleum, Reserve. PALMER MARRERO - Richard William Palmer, 50, a native of St. Augustine, Fla., and resident of Boutte for the past 20 years, died May 27. He was the husband of Debbie Bourg Palmer and father of Brandi Bertucci and Brad Palmer. He was also the son of Mary Prince Palmer and the late William Palmer and brother of Rodger E. Palmer. He was an inspector at Avondale Industries Inc. Services were May 31 in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, Marrero, with private interment. PEEL METAIRIE - Conchetta F. Peel, 74, a native of New Orleans and resident of LaPlace for 20 years, died May 27. She was the mother of Debera Mora and Pamela Abt. She was also the sister of Cullen Peel. SCOTT PAULINA - Elijah Scott Sr., 64, a native and resident of Paulina, died May 26. He was the husband of Catherine Ann Joseph Scott and father of Linda Gaines, Erica Walker, Barbara Manuel, Odeal, Eldrin, Jason, Ricky, Anthony and Elijah Scott Jr. and stepfather of Christopher and Bernard Blunt. He was also the son of the late Edward Sr. and Odeal Ward Scott and brother of Ernestine Lee, Joseph, George, Jake, Samuel and the Rev. Benjamin Scott and the late Pearly Batiste, Octavia Ezidore, Mary Sanchez and Neuman, Phillip and Alex Scott Sr. He is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. TASSIN LAPLACE - Kenneth "Hot Papa" Tassin, 41, a resident of LaPlace, died May 26. URSIN PAULINA - Geraldine "Jean" Ursin, 46, a native of Paulina and resident of Woodville, Miss. for the past 13 years, died May 25 in an automobile accident in Bristol, Tenn. She was the mother of Carisa, Ricou, Travis, Calvin and the late Frederick and Trashira Ursin. She was also the sister of Jerry Mae Clayton. She is also survived by three grandchildren. She attended Lutcher High School. In the same accident, Frederick Ursin, 21, Trashira Ursin, 16, and grandchild, Ricou Terrell Ursin, 5, also died. ROSE - Marjorie Vinnett, 74, a native and resident of St. Rose, died May 30. She was the wife of the late Hampton Vinnett and mother of Brenda Mitchell, Larry Vinnett and the late Gerald, Kenneth, Donnie and Gloria Jean Vinnett. She was also the daughter of the late Josephine Albert and Philogene Paul and sister of Morris Paul and the late Lillian Evans, Hazel Boyd, Leola Williams and Oliver, Elvin and Philogene Paul. She is also survived by three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one grandchild. Services are today at noon at Mt. Turner Armstrong, 69, a native of New Orleans and resident of Boutte for 24 years, died May 30. She was the mother of the Rev. Dareal McCray, Bishop Deborah Hall and Rnyshah, Karl and Lloyd Armstrong Jr. She was also the sister of Selena Johnson, Verlene Williams, Lula Mae Brown and Herman Turner. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was pastor of True Church of God in Christ and member of Stars of Neremiah Association, Star of Hope Benevolent Society, Fellowship Gospel Train, Daughters of Jerusalem, Ministers Alliance Association, Forgotten Men Committee and the NAACP. Services were June 5 in the chapel of Richardson Funeral Home, River Ridge, with interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Boutte. BIGELOW LAPLACE - Donald L. Bigelow, 44, a native of Lima, Ohio, and resident of Reserve, died June 3. He was the husband of Sallie Whitehead Bigelow, father of Tara Bigelow and stepfather of Michael Cambre Jr. and Kevin, Cari and the late Steve Gehegan. He was also the son of Ronald Bigelow and the late Mary Joe Smith, brother of Randy and Trina Bigelow, Stanley and Robert Wheatley and Albert Smith and stepbrother of Barry and Glenn Entremont. FRANCOIS RESERVE - Audrey "Butsy" Francois, 76, a native of Mt. Airy and resident of Reserve, died May 31. She was the wife of the late Alfred Francois and mother of Bertrand Francois. She was also the sister of Mable Wilsham, Mildred Gray, Marjorie Bardell and the late Ethele Joseph, Bertha Keys, Beulah Nicholas, Hattie Howard, Edna Ross and Ernest Sr., Earl Sr., James Jr. and the Rev. Mehl, 74, a native of Gallipolis, Ohio, and resident of St. Rose, died June 5. He was the husband of the late Edith Pratt Mehl and father of Ann Nelson, Ellen Rebowe, Janice Kaliszeski, Debra Rodriguez and Robert L. Mehl. He was also the son of the late Roy and Daisy Mehl. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. He was a retired brickmason and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Services were June 8 at St. Rose Baptist Church, St. Rose, with interment at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose. VICTOR EDGARD - Felecien "Shake" Victor, 91, a native and resident of Lucy, died June 2. He was the husband of Mary Victor and father of Wanda Fairley, Beverly Boudoin, Jacqueline Duhe, Lisa Nelson, Michael Victor and Clyde and Burnell Nelson. He was also the son of the late Lionel and Lula Barre Victor and brother of Ruth Scott and the late Lawrence and Gilbert Victor. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. WEMPREN NAPLACE - Claude Wempren, 80, a native and resident of LaPlace, died June 6. TERRIO DESTREHAN - Mary Elizabeth Terrio, a native of French Settlement, former resident of Destrehan and resident of LaPlace, died June 11. He was the father of Joelle Malott, Donna Robino and Mark Boudreaux and stepfather of Sandra Cannon and Bertha Page. He was also the companion of Allie Mae LaCour. He was also the son of Drozina Matherne Boudreaux and the late Alvin Joseph Boudreaux and brother of Janet Guedry and Paul Boudreaux. He is also survived by three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.
