METAIRIE - William E. "Bill" Avara, 72, a native of McComb, Miss., and resident of St. Charles
Parish for the past 41 years, died May 28. He was the husband of Mary B. Avara and father of
Arleen, Albert and William Avara.
He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were June 1 in the chapel of Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Metairie.

CANNON
KILLONA - Wallace "Sonny" Cannon Jr., 64, a native of Killona and resident of New Orleans, died
May 24. He was the son of the late Victoria Markey and Wallace Cannon Sr. and brother of Betty
August, Mary Lewis and the late Vivian Gordon, Audrey Bartley, Delores Downing, Myrtle Woods
and Charles, Sheldon Sr. and George Cannon.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at Canaan Baptist Church, Killona, with interment at Restlawn
Cemetery, Avondale. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

JOHNSON
GRAMERCY - Evella Appledeer Johnson, 91, a native and resident of Gramercy, died May 24. She
was the mother of Julie Sabate, Iona Sique, Shirley Aubert and Delores, Odessa, Tites Sr. and
Isaac Johnson Jr.
She is also survived by 36 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren, 32 great-great-grandchildren,
31 great-great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-great-grandchild.
Services were May 30 at New Zion Full Gospel Church, Gramercy, with interment at St. Joseph
Mausoleum, Paulina.

LANDRY
NEW ORLEANS - Alice Thompson Landry, 78, a native of Convent and resident of New Orleans, died
May 27. She was the wife of the late Clarence Landry.
She was also the daughter of the late Gabriel and Aline Marvigne Thompson and sister of Hilda
Jordan and Beulah Block and the late Ovelia Fobb, Theresa Dennis and Freddie, Percy, Melvin and
Nelson Thompson.
Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Baptist Church, New Orleans, with private interment.
Visitation starts at 9:30 a.m.

MATHIEU
EDGARD - Noah F. "Chief" Mathieu, 84, a native and resident of Lucy, died May 29. He was the
husband of the late Melba Bartholomew Mathieu and father of Karen, Larry Sr., Landry and Keith
Mathieu Sr.
He was also the son of the late Carmel LeBeouf and Edgar Mathieu Sr. and brother of Marie
McCray, Lorraine Alexis, Roy Mathieu Sr. and the late Edgar Mathieu Jr.
He is also survived by six grandchildren.
He was a retired paint foreman at Avondale Shipyards.
Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment
at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

OUBRE
GARYVILLE - Pierre Oubre Sr., 94, a native of Vacherie and resident of Garyville, died May 30.
He was the husband for 67 years of Celine Cambre Oubre and father of Amelia Matherne, Barbara
Causey, Nobie Freeman and John and Pierre Oubre Jr.
He was also the son of the late Rene and Odile Louquette Oubre and brother of Richard Oubre Sr.
and the late Armentine Kliebert, Melba Cambre and Rene Sr., Claude Sr. and Hubert Oubre Sr.
He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was a retired employee of San Francisco Sugar Mill and member of the Holy Name Society.
Services were June 1 at St. Hubert Catholic Church, Garyville, with interment at St. Peter
Mausoleum, Reserve.

PALMER
MARRERO - Richard William Palmer, 50, a native of St. Augustine, Fla., and resident of Boutte
for the past 20 years, died May 27. He was the husband of Debbie Bourg Palmer and father of
Brandi Bertucci and Brad Palmer.
He was also the son of Mary Prince Palmer and the late William Palmer and brother of Rodger E.
Palmer.
He was an inspector at Avondale Industries Inc.
Services were May 31 in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, Marrero, with private interment.

PEEL
METAIRIE - Conchetta F. Peel, 74, a native of New Orleans and resident of LaPlace for 20 years,
died May 27. She was the mother of Debera Mora and Pamela Abt.
She was also the sister of Cullen Peel.
She is also survived by nine grandchildren.
Services were June 1 in the chapel of Lamana-Panno-Fallo Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment
at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.

SCOTT
PAULINA - Elijah Scott Sr., 64, a native and resident of Paulina, died May 26. He was the
husband of Catherine Ann Joseph Scott and father of Linda Gaines, Erica Walker, Barbara Manuel,
Odeal, Eldrin, Jason, Ricky, Anthony and Elijah Scott Jr. and stepfather of Christopher and
Bernard Blunt.
He was also the son of the late Edward Sr. and Odeal Ward Scott and brother of Ernestine Lee,
Joseph, George, Jake, Samuel and the Rev. Benjamin Scott and the late Pearly Batiste, Octavia
Ezidore, Mary Sanchez and Neuman, Phillip and Alex Scott Sr.
He is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was chief deputy of the St. James Parish Sheriff's Office.
Services were June 1 at Evergreen Baptist Church, Paulina, with interment at Antioch Cemetery,
Paulina.

TASSIN
LAPLACE - Kenneth "Hot Papa" Tassin, 41, a resident of LaPlace, died May 26. He was the son of
Ida Mae Tassin and brother of Sheila Anderson, Samantha Wilson, Nelson and Wayne Watkins, Mack
and Robert Dickey, Andre Burl and the late Linda James, Kevin Tassin and Alfred Dickey.
He was reared by the late Doris and Elvin Burl.
Services were June 1 at Milesville Memorial Church of God in Christ, LaPlace, with interment at
Providence Rest Haven Cemetery, LaPlace.

TUMBAR
NEW SARPY - Felicia Shantel Tumbar, 25, a native of New Sarpy and resident of Hahnville, died
May 22. She was the mother of Tanisha Roberts.
She was also the daughter of Joseph Tumbar and Cherly Washington Clay, stepdaughter of Richard
Clay and Tyrease Tumbar and sister of Rebha Tumbar and George Brown.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Baptist Church, New Sarpy, with interment at New
Sarpy Cemetery. Visitation starts at 9:30 a.m.

URSIN
PAULINA - Frederick Marquese Ursin, 21, a resident of Paulina, died May 25 in an automobile
accident in Bristol, Tenn. He was the son of Molen and the late Geraldine Ursin and brother of
Carisa Ursin, Nicole Jones and Ricou J., Travis, Calvin and the late Trashira Ursin.
Dismissal services are today at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Baptist Church, Paulina, with interment at
Antioch Cemetery, Paulina.

URSIN
PAULINA - Geraldine "Jean" Ursin, 46, a native of Paulina and resident of Woodville, Miss. for
the past 13 years, died May 25 in an automobile accident in Bristol, Tenn. She was the mother
of Carisa, Ricou, Travis, Calvin and the late Frederick and Trashira Ursin.
She was also the sister of Jerry Mae Clayton.
She is also survived by three grandchildren.
She attended Lutcher High School.
In the same accident, Frederick Ursin, 21, Trashira Ursin, 16, and grandchild, Ricou Terrell
Ursin, 5, also died.
Dismissal services are today at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Baptist Church, Paulina, with interment at
Antioch Cemetery, Paulina.

URSIN
PAULINA - Ricou Terrell Ursin, 5, a resident of Paulina, died May 25 in an automobile accident
in Bristol, Tenn. He was the son of Ricou J. Ursin and Ekeisha Green and brother of Tyree Ursin
and Kayleigh Green.
He was also the grandson of Molen Ursin and the late Geraldine Ursin, Alvin Green Sr. and Emma
Johnson.
Dismissal services are today at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Baptist Church, Paulina, with interment at
Antioch Cemetery, Paulina.

URSIN
PAULINA - Trashira J. Ursin, 16, a resident of Paulina, died May 25 in an automobile accident
in Bristol, Tenn. She was the daughter of Johnny Jackson and the late Geraldine Ursin and
sister of Carisa, Ricou J., Travis, Calvin and the late Frederick Ursin.
Dismissal services are today at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Baptist Church, Paulina, with interment at
Antioch Cemetery, Paulina.

VINNETT
ST. ROSE - Marjorie Vinnett, 74, a native and resident of St. Rose, died May 30. She was the
wife of the late Hampton Vinnett and mother of Brenda Mitchell, Larry Vinnett and the late
Gerald, Kenneth, Donnie and Gloria Jean Vinnett.
She was also the daughter of the late Josephine Albert and Philogene Paul and sister of Morris
Paul and the late Lillian Evans, Hazel Boyd, Leola Williams and Oliver, Elvin and Philogene
Paul.
She is also survived by three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death
by one grandchild.
Services are today at noon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, St. Rose, with interment at St. Rose
Cemetery. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.

ARMSTRONG
RIVER RIDGE - Lilly M. Turner Armstrong, 69, a native of New Orleans and resident of Boutte for
24 years, died May 30. She was the mother of the Rev. Dareal McCray, Bishop Deborah Hall and
Rnyshah, Karl and Lloyd Armstrong Jr.
She was also the sister of Selena Johnson, Verlene Williams, Lula Mae Brown and Herman Turner.
She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was pastor of True Church of God in Christ and member of Stars of Neremiah Association,
Star of Hope Benevolent Society, Fellowship Gospel Train, Daughters of Jerusalem, Ministers
Alliance Association, Forgotten Men Committee and the NAACP.
Services were June 5 in the chapel of Richardson Funeral Home, River Ridge, with interment at
St. Mary's Cemetery, Boutte.

BIGELOW
LAPLACE - Donald L. Bigelow, 44, a native of Lima, Ohio, and resident of Reserve, died June 3.
He was the husband of Sallie Whitehead Bigelow, father of Tara Bigelow and stepfather of
Michael Cambre Jr. and Kevin, Cari and the late Steve Gehegan.
He was also the son of Ronald Bigelow and the late Mary Joe Smith, brother of Randy and Trina
Bigelow, Stanley and Robert Wheatley and Albert Smith and stepbrother of Barry and Glenn
Entremont.
He is also survived by six grandchildren.
Services are today at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace, with
interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace. Visitations starts at 8 a.m.

HALFORD
LAPLACE - Maggie Short Halford, a native of Sumrall, Miss., and resident of LaPlace for 18
years, died May 31. She was the wife of William Halford and mother of Julie Bordelon and Carl,
Connie and the late Clifton Hemphill.
She was also the daughter of the late Jim and Ruth Martin Short and sister of Elderidge Short.
She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great-
grandchildren.
Services were June 4 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace, with interment at
St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.

HERNANDEZ
METAIRIE - Simona Estella Hernandez, 77, a native of Trujillo, Honduras, and resident of
LaPlace, died May 31. She was the mother of Mario and Marco Hernandez, Fidelina Malone and
Carlos, Roberto and Francisco Sanabria.
She was also the sister of Emma Sutherland, Georgina Alvarado and Jorge Hernandez.
She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services were June 2 in the chapel of Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at
Cementerio General in Trujillo, Honduras.

LaBICHE
GARYVILLE - Clarence LaBiche Sr., 91, a native and resident of Garyville, died June 1. He was
the husband of the late Bernice Strawhorn LaBiche and father of Sadie Bradford, Madeline Carter
and Clarence Jr. and Don LaBiche.
He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services are today at 10 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Garyville, with interment at

LEBLANC
RESERVE - Challing Eugene LeBlanc, 4, a native and resident of Reserve, died June 2. He was the
son of Stephen and Elizabeth Delaneauville LeBlanc and brother of Channing, Chassie and Channie
LeBlanc.
He was also the grandson of Albert and Gladys LeBlanc and Lydia and the late Eugene
Delaneauville Jr.
Services are today at noon at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, with interment at the church
cemetery. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

MADERE
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Wanda Waguespack Madere, 38, a native of New Orleans and resident of
Reserve and Sacramento, Calif., died April 8. She was the wife of Trey Madere and mother of
Elisa Madere.
She was the daughter of the late Mary Ann Waguespack and sister of the late Rochel LeBlanc and
Pam Abernathy.
Private services were April 14 in Sacramento, Calif.

MORICI
DESTREHAN - Jacob Frank "Jack" Morici, 74, a native of Independence and resident of St. Rose,
died June 4. He was the husband of Lois Falgout Morici and father of Jack, Terry and John
Morici.
He was also the son of the late Vincent and Josephine Morici and brother of Rita Heohn, Frances
Santangalo, Margaret Lang, Pat Hall, Marion Field, Josephine Stephens, Ann Buras, Vincent
Morici and the late Jenny Fabre.
He is also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Destrehan, with
interment at the church mausoleum. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

for 30 years, died May 29. She was the mother of Sylvia Lightell, Linda Howard, Dianne Shapiro
and Joan and Edwin "Sonny" Rivere.
She was also the sister of Leotha Meyer, Beryl Wolney and June Lirette.
She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services were June 4 in the chapel of Lake Lawn Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at Lake
Lawn Park Cemetery.

TREGLE
MARRERO - Frances O'Donnell Tregle, 76, a resident of Luling, died May 30. She was the wife of
the late Elmo Tregle and mother of Pat Leninger, Vickie Keller and Eileen Rogers.
She was also the daughter of the late Rufie Wilkerson O'Donnell and Charles O'Donnell and
sister of Gloria Vernon and the late Charles, Kenneth and C.J. O'Donnell.
She is also survived by seven grandchildren.
Private services were June 1 in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, Marrero, with interment at
Westlawn Memorial Park.

TREHERN
METAIRIE - Wilbur Trehern, 64, a native of Pensacola, Fla., and resident of St. Rose for eight
years, died May 31. He was the father of Annette Roberson, Erica Fontanille and Kim and Blake
Trehern.
He was also the brother of Betty Baur and Kenneth Trehern. He is also survived by two
grandchildren.
Memorial services were June 3 in the chapel of L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, Metairie.

NORCO - Alfred Anderson Sr., 59, a native and resident of Norco, died June 1. He was the
husband of Elaine Anderson; father of Tressie Bailey, Janice Watkins, Carol King and Alandra,
Kawanda and Alfred Anderson Jr.; and guardian of Brandielle Anderson.
He was also the brother of Jackie Foster, Brenetta Smith and Henry, Vernon, John and Gerald
Anderson.
He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was a retired operator from Shell Oil and a former employee of the Kenner Police Department.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at Greater Good Hope Baptist Church, Norco, with interment at
Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.

BUTLER
LUTCHER - Joseph Butler Sr., 59, a native of Gramercy and resident of Lutcher, died June 2. He
was the husband of Joy Ann Woodland Butler and father of JaVon, Joseph Jr. and Jamal Butler.
He was also the son of the late Silas Sr. and Ollie Mitchell Butler and brother of Carol Ann
Johnson and Consuella, Aliceia, Horace, Kenneth, Charles, Silas Jr. and the late Audrey, Ollie
Mae and Theodore Butler.
He is also survived by one grandchild and three step-grandchildren.
Services were June 7 at King Triumph Baptist Church, Lutcher, with interment at St. Michael
Cemetery, Convent.

DICKERSON
VACHERIE - Ora Lee Dickerson, 66, a native of Vacherie and resident of Wallace, died June 3.
She was the wife of the late Levy Dickerson and mother of the Rev. Allyson Dickerson. She was
also the guardian of Brian Adams.
She was also the daughter of the late Madison Victor and Anna Bell Victor Jairles and sister of
Marion Jasmin and Mildred Adams.
She is also survived by three grandchildren.
She was a retired St. James Parish teacher.
Services were June 7 at Highway Baptist Church, Vacherie, with interment at the church
cemetery.

FRANCOIS
RESERVE - Audrey "Butsy" Francois, 76, a native of Mt. Airy and resident of Reserve, died May
31. She was the wife of the late Alfred Francois and mother of Bertrand Francois.
She was also the sister of Mable Wilsham, Mildred Gray, Marjorie Bardell and the late Ethele
Joseph, Bertha Keys, Beulah Nicholas, Hattie Howard, Edna Ross and Ernest Sr., Earl Sr., James
Jr. and the Rev. J.J. Farlough Sr.
She is also survived by three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at Beechgrove Baptist Church, Reserve, with interment at St.
Peter Cemetery, Reserve. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

GROW
VACHERIE - John "Dad" Grow Sr., 73, a native of Vacherie and resident of Wallace, died June 4.
He was the husband of Florida Clay Grow and father of Elizabeth Rousseve, Valerie Johnson and
Thomas and John Grow Jr.
He was also the son of the late Aurelien and Augustine Grow and brother of Bernadine
Bartholomew, Pearl Clark and Pierre, George, Aurelien and Lazin Grow.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren.
He was a retired farmhand.
Services were June 8 at St. Philip Catholic Church, Vacherie, with interment at the church
cemetery.

MEHL
ST. ROSE - Robert W. Mehl, 74, a native of Gallipolis, Ohio, and resident of St. Rose, died
June 5. He was the husband of the late Edith Pratt Mehl and father of Ann Nelson, Ellen Rebowe,
Janice Kaliszeski, Debra Rodriguez and Robert L. Mehl.
He was also the son of the late Roy and Daisy Mehl.
He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
He was a retired brickmason and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Services were June 8 at St. Rose Baptist Church, St. Rose, with interment at Jefferson Memorial
Gardens, St. Rose.

VICTOR
EDGARD - Felecien "Shake" Victor, 91, a native and resident of Lucy, died June 2.
He was the husband of Mary Victor and father of Wanda Fairley, Beverly Boudoin, Jacqueline
Duhe, Lisa Nelson, Michael Victor and Clyde and Burnell Nelson.
He was also the son of the late Lionel and Lula Barre Victor and brother of Ruth Scott and the
late Lawrence and Gilbert Victor.
He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was a self-employed farmer.
Services were June 7 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at the
church mausoleum.

WEMPREN
NAPLACE - Claude Wempren, 80, a native and resident of LaPlace, died June 6.
He was the husband of the late Ethel Perilloux Wempren and father of Larry Perilloux, Elaine
Santangelo and the late Linda Perilloux and Jeanette Scarkino.
He was also the son of the late Gabriel and Estelle Wempren.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and was preceded in death
by one grandchild.
Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment at
St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

LUTCHER - Brad Paul Abbate Jr., 5 months, a native and resident of Garyville, died June 7. He
was the son of Brad Sr. and Marquita Belle Abbate.
He was also the maternal grandchild of Isaac Lee and Teatrice Belle of Reserve and paternal
grandchild of Peter and Connie Louque Abbate of Garyville.
Services were June 9 in the chapel of H.C. Alexander Funeral Home, Lutcher, with interment at
St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery, Destrehan.

LAURENT
RESERVE - Ewell J. Laurent, 74, a native of Vacherie and resident of Reserve for 53 years, died
June 11. He was the husband of Lorrie Montz Laurent and father of Kevin and Duane Laurent.
He was also the son of Elvira Breaud and the late Robley Laurent Sr. and brother of Robley Jr.,
Kermit and Lewis Laurent.
He is also survived by three grandchildren.
Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, with interment at the

PRICE
NEW ORLEANS - Mary M. "Neal" Price, 94, a native of Montz and longtime resident of New Orleans,
died June 7. She was the mother of Cleaster Jones and Elliott Neal.
She was also the daughter of the late Effrim and Martha Malone.
She is also survived by four grandchildren and one step-grandchild.
Services were June 12 at Gloryland Mt. Gillion Baptist Church, New Orleans, with interment at
Destrehan Cemetery.

SCRUGGS
METAIRIE - Sandra Ann Knowles Scruggs, 31, a native of New Orleans, resident of Kenner for 30
years and resident of LaPlace for several months, died June 8. She was the wife of Michael
Scruggs and mother of Teddi Lynn Knowles.
She was also the daughter of David Knowles and Cherlyn Hurst and sister of Sharon Meyers, Toni
Gillaspie and Faith and David Knowles.
Services are today at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, Metairie,
with private interment.

TERRIO
DESTREHAN - Mary Elizabeth Terrio, a native of French Settlement, former resident of Destrehan
and resident of LaPlace, died June 11. She was the wife of the late Edward Nary Terrio and
mother of Myrtle Luminais, Mary Ann Fernandez and the late Edward Terrio.
She was also the daughter of the late Judith Landry and Joseph Montaldo and sister of the late
Martha Weaver, Estelle Louque, Josephine Babin, Louise Clements and Loris, Fred, John and
Joseph Montaldo.
She is survived by 12 grandchilden and a host of great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by one grandchild.
Services are today at 9 a.m. in the chapel of Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Metairie, with

RESERVE - Henry "T-Man" Adams Sr., 94, a native of LaPlace and resident of Reserve, died June
11. He was the husband of the late Harriet Alexander Adams and father of Phillip Sr., Henry Jr.
and the late Carroll Adams.
He was also the brother of the late Eliza Murray Selby, Julis Sholes and Viola Tircuit.
He is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

for 25 years, died June 12. He was the father of Joelle Malott, Donna Robino and Mark Boudreaux
and stepfather of Sandra Cannon and Bertha Page. He was also the companion of Allie Mae LaCour.
He was also the son of Drozina Matherne Boudreaux and the late Alvin Joseph Boudreaux and
brother of Janet Guedry and Paul Boudreaux.
He is also survived by three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.
