(Because of father and son having the same name, Adolphe - the father will be referred to as Adolphe (I) and the son - as Adolphe (II). His succession was recorded August 28, 1876. Adolphe (I) was married on January 7, 1859 to Marie Coralie Leger in a civil ceremony and January 10, 1859 in a church ceremony. Adolphe and Marie Coralie had nine children, which included a set of twins - Joseph and Jean Baptiste. There are records of Jean Baptiste’s marriage and his children’s birth, but there are few records of Joseph other than his birth and being mentioned in his father’s will. Marie Coralie Leger Fall was born February 27, 1840 to Dosite Leger (Dosite de St Charles au Grand Coteau) and Marie Marcellite Semer. Her grandparents were Jean Leger (Jean of Cherbourg, France) and Marie Savoie of Opelousas. (Jean parents were Michel Leger and Angelique Pinette both of LaRochelle, France.) Both Adolphe and his brother, Volmont were named in their grandmother’s will (Marie Barbe Frozard Quebedeaux) as legal heirs to her estate when she died. Also named were three of their cousins who were minor children of Marie Barbe Frozard and Toussainte Quebedeau. They were: Francois Quebedeau, Mercant Quebedeau, and Merante Quebedeau. The succession was filed 8-28-1844. Adolphe Fall (I) served for the Confederacy during the Civil War. Adolphe was a Private in Company A, 28th La. Inf. (Thomas’) enlisting April 6, 1862 at Opelousas, Louisiana. He was present on the rolls of February 28, 1863. The Federal Rolls of Prisoners of War, list him as captured and paroled at Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 4, 1863. He was paroled officially at Washington, Louisiana on June 17, 1865. Adolphe died of congestive chills (pneumonia) on October 1, 1871 at Grand Coteau and was buried in the Sacred Heart church cemetery in Grand Coteau. On November 21, 1876, there was a public auction held to liquidate the estate of Adolphe Fall (I) and was purchased by his wife, Coralie Fall. The estate consisted of 50 acres of land that had belonged to his father, George, that he had purchased. It was bounded on the south by land owned by William Fall (his half brother), west by Gustave Leger, north and east by lands of Public Domain. The house and kitchen contained household articles worth $17.50. It can be concluded that Adolphe was more of a rancher than a farmer by the amount and diversity of stock that he owned. The succession lists 5 cows, 2 yearling calves, one pair of mules, 5 horses, 1 colt, 29 head of sheep, and 10 small shoats and pigs. There was a corn crib with a hundred bushels of corn, tools, a grindstone, and a horse cart. The only personal possessions of Adolphe that were listed was his gun and silver watch. The estate was divided with one half going to the widow and the remainder to be split nine ways among his children. Each to receive $44.66 2/3. On the 1880 Soundex, Corilee Fall is listed as living in St. Landry Parish and Adolphe (I) is deceased. Marcelete Leger, her mother, is among the people in her household along with nine children.
