Jean “of Germany” Fall and Marie Theresa Miller have among their children a son, Jean Georges. He was born 1-16-1806. In the St. Charles Church, in Grand Coteau, Louisiana. Volume 1 Page 162 states, “George Fall d 19 Nov 1866 at age 65 years. (He was actually 60 years old). George was listed as a minor heir in his fathers succession in 1822. George was married twice, his first wife was Marie Catherine Quebedeaux. At their marriage, James Bartan (Barton became George’s stepfather 1-29-1827), John W. Singleton, Giles Higgenbotham, and Jean Balthazard Marks acted as witnesses. Jean Bathazard Marks was George’s uncle. (J.B. Marks was married to Catherine Miller, his mother’s sister.) George and Marie Catherine Quebedeaux were married on December 7, 1835 in a civil ceremony that is recorded in Opelousas at the parish courthouse. Their church ceremony is recorded as December 25, 1835 at the church in Grand Coteau. Marie Catherine was the daughter of Toussainte Quebedeaux and Marie Barbara Frosard. She was born on May 12, 1816. Her death is recorded in the records of the St. Charles Borromeo Church in Grand Coteau as: “Fall, Catherine d. 14 June 1840 at ae 30 years”. Actually she was 24 years old. Marie Catherine was the mother of only two children before her early death. Adolphe and Valmont were her only children by George Fall. Adolphe’s godparents were Jean Baptiste Fall, his uncle, and Marie Theresa Miller Fall, his grandmother. Volmont’s godparents were Frank Fall, an uncle, and Amaranth Thibodeau. George Fall and his second wife Marie Theresa Noel, whom he married August 20, 1842, were the parents of fourteen children. Included in these fourteen were two sets of twins. It is fair to assume that George and Marie Theresa were God fearing people or at least they had quite a sense of humor. The two sets of twins they had were named, Joseph and Mary and Adam and Eve. At the time of George’s death only seven of these fourteen had survived. George Fall was a veteran of the Civil War. He is listed as being on the Muster Roll (that is not dated) for Company G, 1st Regt. 2nd Brig. 1st Div. La. Mil., it is stated that he was “ordered into service”. At the onset of the Civil War, George would have been approximately 58 years old. There are no other details of his service for the Confederacy at this time. After George Fall died his son, Adolphe, filed with the court to be made administrator of the estate. It states in the succession that Theresa Noel, his surviving widow refused to administer the estate. Marie Theresa Noel gave birth to a child only five days before her husbands death on November 19. On December 7, Adolphe submitted papers to the court to appoint himself administrator and to qualify Theresa Noel as the guardian of her five minor children. Either George was quite ill before he died or there is a possibility that Theresa and the children along with George were ill also. Only seven of the fourteen children that Theresa and George had survived. The Final Tableau and Distribution of the Estate of George Fall lists many liabilities that included medical expenses. Medical accounts that were outstanding at the time of his death were: Dr. Nerrisson - $465, E. M. Millard - $52, Dr. Campbel - $7.50, N. L. Dunbar (druggist) - $2.20 and the estate of Dr. Nan - $10.00. There was also an outstanding note from October 27, 1865 owing to Dr. I. D. Mof for $61 with accrued interest of $12.71. A total debt of $145.41 for medical expenses. In 1866 this was quite a substantial amount. From this succession we can learn many things about George Fall. He was a fairly prosperous farmer before ill health overtook his family. He owned 77 acres of land on Couler Croche that was bounded on the north by land owned by his son, Adolphe Fall, east by Joseph D. Guidry and Bene. Simms, south by Bene. Simms, and west by Joachim Leger. The property was appraised at five dollars an acre, a total of $385. He owned a home and a kitchen. These were furnished with a cupboard, safe, feather bed, armoire, fixtures, plates and pots. His farming business was aided by the plow horses and harnesses he owned along with the cotton house and corn house. He raised corn and ground it with his own grinding stone, he owned a scythe and cross cut saw along with axes, hoes, and spades. George provided a means of transportation for his family with the buggy and horse cart and the two mares and colt he possessed. He also owned a gun which was probably used to protect as well as provide game. At the time of his death, there were six bales of cotton and forty five barrels of corn. Even Theresa had her own spinning wheel. The estate paid John Collins for making George’s coffin and he was buried at St. Charles Church.
