John paid $52.50 for the property that was located in Grand Coteau. Apparently he was a prudent manager or a very good businessman, for in 1802 he sold this parcel of land to Jean Meche for $250.00. He may have owned other property besides this particular piece. In 1821, March 20, Ann Mary Miller, John Miller, and Frederick Miller (his mother-in-law and brothers-in-law) signed a bill of sale to him. It stated that Jacob Miller, deceased, (his father-in-law) had received from John Faul the sum of $150 for a parcel of land situated in the Prairie of Grand Coteau. The land was one arpent and a half front by forty arpents deep. The sale of land that was recorded May 7, 1821, states that Jacob Miller died before he had a chance to notarize the deed in favor of John Faul. Jean of Germany, who lived in the Opelousas area, married MARIE THERESA MILLER on February 4, 1802, with the FR. Luis Buhot officiating and Mel Pruhomme, William Johnson, Meikel Stelly, and Jean Baptiste ____ witnessing. Jean was 45 years old and Marie Theresa was 20. They were married 19 years before his death and had six children. On the record of Jean's death on file at St. Charles Church in Grand Coteau (funeral, v. 1) it states "John Fall, son of John Christoval and Isabelle V-was born ca 1756, married in Opelasous to Marie Therese Miller died 1821 at Grand Coteau at age 65." The records at the St. Landry Catholic Church indicated that Isabelle V. Heuno was John's mother. In volume 1 page 5 of the records at the Grand Coteau church it also states: "John Fall 20th of March 1821 in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and twentyone I the undersigned buried in the graveyard of St. Charles John Fall native from ____ in Germany, dormicileated for upward of twenty years in Opelosas, husband of Mary Teresa Miller. Deceded in this parish on the 19th ni_t in the sixty fifth year of his age. Fr Brapae (?) Rector of St. Charles." (Using the entries above leads you to conclude: John Faul was possibly born March 1 or 2, 1756. If he was buried on March 20, 1821 and he died on the 19th night of his 65th year of age. At the time of his death, he and Marie Theresa were living in the Prairie of Grande Coteau with the Widow Charles Smith and Jean Baptiste Stelly as neighboring land owners. His property fronted on the "bayou bourbeaux" and was one and a half arpents wide and thirty five and a half arpents deep This is the same land he bought from his father-in-law in 1807. The land appraised at $689 and included in the estate were: five head of cattle, a horse, three mules, farm equipment and tools, and numerous household goods. The entire estate appraised at $902. The estate was to be divided among the children with the exception of ten acres and the homestead that was to become Marie Theresa's. John of Germany was buried in the graveyard of St. Charles, in Grand Coteau. After a thorough search of the cemetery there was not found a marker for John Fall. A mapping of the cemetery did not begin until approximately 1976.
