Cleveland Fruge'. ------------------------------- Judge Joe R. Vidrine was first elected to the office of District Judge on July 23, 1960. He was appointed by the Governor of Louisiana to fill the unexpired term of Judge J. Cleveland Fruge' on July 29, 1960; his official term began on January 3, 1961. Prior to his election to the office of District Judge, Judge Vidrine was appointed as sttorney to assist the Inheritance Tax Collector of Louisiana, which office he held for approximately four years. He also served as an assistant to the Attorney General of the State of Louisiana for approximately three and a half years. Judge Vidrine received his grammar school education from Grand Prairie High School in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana and finally obtained his diploma from Riverside, California. Subsequently, he attended Junior College in Riverside and later transferred to Louisiana State University, where he completed his undergraduate work and finished law school in January, 1954. Upon completion of his law school, Judge Vidrine opened his law office at Ville Platte, Louisiana, where he practiced alone for one year. He subsequently formed a partnership with L.O. Fuselier, also of Ville Platte. This firm was dissolved after six years, upon his election to the bench. Both his parents are deceased. Judge Vidrine was born on July 3, 1923 in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. He is married to Shirley N. Vidrine and they have two children, Richie, 18 years of age; Joseph Todd, two years. Judge Vidrine is a member of the Judicature Society, Louisiana State Bar Association, Evengeline Parish Bar Association, member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, and a member of the Rotary Club of Ville Platte, Louisiana. Judge Vidrine is a war veteran, having served four years in the United States Navy during World War II. He served on the battleship U.S.S. Pennsylvania and served in most of the major battles in the Pacific Theatre. Judge Vidrine's hobbies are hunting, fishing, and golfing.
