All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Original image file contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Jane McManus March 18, 2008 Transcribed to a text file by Bryant Walker, 2/10/2014 Document Date: 6/28/1826 St. Landry Parish, Donation Book No. 192 Gilbert Swett [Sweat] & his wife [Francis Smith Taylor] to Joseph Willis & the members of the Church Sale of Land The 28th June 1826 This made the 28th of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty six, between Joseph Willis Senior and the members of the Baptist Church of Christ in the settlement of Bayou Chicot Parish of St. Landry and State of Louisiana, the said Church known and called by the name of Calvary of the one part as trustees, in trust, for the uses and purposes hereinafter mentioned, and Gilbert Sweat and his wife Fanny of the other part, all of the said Parish and State. Witnesseth the said Gilbert Sweat and his wife Fanny to give, bequeath, confirm, and convey unto the said Joseph Willis and the members of the Baptist Church of Christ and their successors in trust for the uses and purposes hereinafter mentioned and declare all the right, title, interest, property claim and demand whichever either in law or equity which the said Gilbert Sweat and his wife Fanny hath or into or upon all and singular, a certain lot of piece of land containing one square acre which the meeting house stands on, situate lying in the settlement of Bayou Chicot and in said Parish and State, viz, being a part of a tract of land belonging to said Gilbert Sweat which he now lives on, together with all and singular, the Church, woods, waters, ways, privileges, and appurtenances that, belonging or in any wise appertaining, to have and to hold all and singular, the said Church, woods, waters, ways, and privileges thereto belonging or in any wise appertaining, for a place of worship unto the said Joseph Willis and the members fo the Baptist Church of Chicot and their successors in office forever, in trust, and the said Gilbert Sweat, and his wife Fanny, doth by these presents, warrant and forever defend all and singular the before mentioned and described body of piece of Land, with the appurtenances thereto belonging to tsaid Joseph Willis and the members of the Baptist Church of Christ and their successors from the Claim or Claims of said Gilbert Sweat and his wife Fanny, their heirs and assigns and from the claims or claims of all persons whatever.
