All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Wm. & Eliza Wikoff To Wikoff Power of Attorney Recorded 11 June 1836 Know all men by these presents that We William Wikoff of the State of Louisiana and Parish of St. Landry and tutor to Susan Watts Pannell and Eliza Wikoff wife of William H. Parrell of the same State and Parish aforesaid and Tutrix to Henrietta Matilda Pannell co-heirs with our Said wards in the succession of the late Mrs. Susan Watts Wikoff of said parish deceased and herein acting as well for ourselves as tutors as aforesaid, have nominated, constituted & appointed and in our place and stead put, and by these presents do nominate constitute & appoint, and in our place and stead put Stephen W. Wikoff of the aforesaid State and parish our true and lawful attorney for us and in our names, place and stead and to our use, so far as we are interested in our own right and as tutor as aforesaid, to ask demand, sue for levy, require, recover & receive all and all manner of goods, chattels, debts duties, rent and rents & sums of money, and demand whatsoever, due or hereafter to be due owing or belonging to the Succession of the aforesaid Mrs. Susan Watts Wikoff deceased, by any person or persons whomsoever, for any matter or thing whatsoever, and upon the receipt thereof or any part or parts whereof, to make and to give acquittances or other discharges for the same in our names or in his own name--and for us and in our names to commence and prosecute any suit or suits, or action or actions as well real as personal or [mixt?] for any goods chattels, debts, duties, demands, matter, cause or thing whatsoever, due or belonging unto the aforesaid succession, or to be demanded on what may be demanded by us in any courts of law or equity, or in any other court or place whatsoever--and the same action & actions suit and suits, and every of them to prosecute and follow on to discontinue the same if he shall see cause--Also for us and in our names to appear make answer and defend in al manner of actions and suits whatsoever as well real as personal or [mixt?] which at any time may be commenced, sued or taken against the said Estate or against the Estates of our said wards--And also for us and in our names to settle and adjust with all person or persons, all accounts dues & demands subsisting or to subsist between them or either of them & the aforesaid Estate, and to arbitrate and agree the same in such manner as our said Attorney shall think proper. And further to vote and receive dividend in the different Banks and Insurance companies in the City of New Orleans in which the aforesaid successions own Stock. And also to pay and discharge all lawful debts & charges against said Estate, and for the better doing acting, performing or executing all or any of the premises we do further give unto our said attorney full power & authority to constitute and appoint and in his place and stead, put and substitute one or more Attorney or attornies for us and as our Attorney or Attornies or the same at his pleasure to revoke. And finally, to do, execute, and perform for us & in our names all and singular those things which shall be expedient and necessary in, about, for touching for touching or concerning the premises so far as to bring the aforesaid Estate to a final close, Settlement and partition, as thoroughly amply and fully as we the said William Wikoff and Eliza W. Wikoff might or could do being personally present. And whatever our said Attornies shall do or cause to be done in above or concerning the premises & any part thereof we do and shall ratify confirm and allow as fully , and amply, as if we ourselves were personally present and did the same. In testimony whereof we have hereunto signed and affixed our seals and I the said William H. Parrett authorising [sic] my said wife to the effect of these presents have also signed and affixed my seal. Done in presence of Benoit Debaillon and George R. King competent witnesses and before George King Parish Judge in and for the aforesaid Parish of St. Landry at Opelousas this eleventh day of June one thousand eight hundred and thirty six.
