Jacob Bihm, of Germany, born about 1744, arrived in colonial Louisiana in 1780 with a group of Irish and German refugees from Fort Pitt. He married Marie Ritter sometime before 1787. Jacob and Marie settled on Bayou Mallet about five miles east of where the city of Eunice would be established. They had four children: 1. Jacob (Jr.), b. 1787, married Suzanne Lejeune/Young; 2. Marie Louise, b. 1790, married Jean Baptiste Lejeune/Young; 3. Michel, b. 1792, married Eugenie Lejeune/Young and 4. Marie Bihm, b. 1793, married William Link. Jacob Bihm died November 4, 1804, at age 60. Marie Ritter died on November 11, 1809.] This deed of partage and division, made at Opelousas, this twenty-second day of July, one thousand eight hundred and nine, between the heirs of Jacob Bihm, deceased, to-wit: Mary Bihm, his widow; Jacob Bihm; William Link in right of his wife, Marie Bihm; Baptiste Lejeune in right of his wife, Lucy Bihm; and Baptiste, Curator of Michel Bihm, a minor of the age of seventeen years and upwards, witnesseth: That whereas the Inventory of the whole Estate amounts to the sum on nine thousand three hundred and eighty seven Dollars and a half, the whole of which being in community, the widow’s share amounts to the sum of four thousand six hundred and ninety-three Dollars and six bits, and the share of each child to the sum on one thousand one hundred and seventy three Dollars three bits and half. To divide which the said parties have agreed to take for their respective shares the following property, at the price of the Inventory, to-wit: The widow Mary Bihm agrees to take for her part: 1. Fourteen acres front of land on the Bois Mallet by the ordinary depth, on which is situated the dwelling house and other improvements, and joining the lands of Joseph Aunant [?], for the sum of one thousand Dollars $1000.00; 2. The negro slave named Sambo, for five hundred and fifty Dollars - 550; 3 The negro woman slave named Yara, for five hundred Dollars - 500; 4. The mulatto woman slave named Betsy, as subject to her infirmity of fits, for the sum of five hundred and fifty Dollars - 550; 5. The negro man slave named George, for the sum of five hundred dollars - 500; 6. All of the plantation tools and utensils and house and kitchen furniture for the sum of one hundred and thirteen Dollars - 113; 7. Two pair of work oxen, for sixty Dollars - 60; 8. Six broke horses for two hundred and ten Dollars - 210; 9. Five mares and colts, for one hundred Dollars - 100; 10. Ten beeves for one hundred Dollars - 100; 11. Sixty-six cows and calves, for six hundred and sixty Dollars - 660; 12. The brand 5B, for fifty Dollars - 50; 13. And William McKay’s note for three hundred Dollars - 300; 14. In cash six bits - O. 6. = 4693.6 The said Jacob Bihm takes for his share ten acres front of the land on the Bois Mallet by the ordinary depth, joining the land of Francois Derozier, for the sum of two hundred Dollars - 200; 2. One pair work oxen, for thirty Dollars - 30; 3. Two broke horses for seventy Dollars - 70; 4. Five mares without colts for seventy-five Dollars - 75; 5. Five beeves, for fifty Dollars - 50; 6. Ten cows and calves, for one hundred Dollars - 100; 7. The cows without calves, for seventy-five Dollars - 75; 8. Seven head young cattle, for thirty-five Dollars - 35; 9. Cash, seven bits and half = 0.7 1/2; 10. And one-fourth part of the negroes, Dick, Milly, Nancy, John, Archy, and Polly appraised together two thousand and one hundred and fifty Dollars - makes five hundred and thirty -seven Dollars and half - 537.4 = 1173.3 1/2. The said William Link, in right of his wife, Marie Bihm, agrees to take and receive for his share the remaining ten acres of land front by the ordinary depth on the Bois Mallet, situated between the land of Mary Bihm and Jacob Bihm, for the sum of two hundred Dollars - 200; 2. Two horses broke, for seventy Dollars - 70; 3. Six mares and colts, for one hundred and twenty Dollars - 120; 4. One stud horse, for twenty-five Dollars - 25; 5. Two beeves, for twenty Dollars - 20; 6. Eighteen cows and calves, for one hundred and eighty Dollars - 180; 7. Four head young cattle, for twenty Dollars - 20; 8. Cash, seven bits and half - 0.7 1/2; 9. And one-fourth part of the six slaves aforementioned, for five hundred and thirty-seven Dollars and half - 537.4 = 1173.3 1/2 The said Baptiste Lejeune, in right of his wife, Lucy Bihm, agrees to take the following for his share: 1. Two broke horses, for seventy Dollars - 70; 2. Fourteen head of young horses and fillies, for one hundred and twelve Dollars - 112; 3. Twelve beeves, for one hundred and twenty Dollars - 120; 4. Twenty cows and calves, for two hundred Dollars - 200; 5. Eleven cows without calves, for eighty two Dollars and half - 82.4; 6. Ten head of young cattle, for fifty Dollars - 50; 7. Cash, one Dollar three bits and an half 1.3 1/2; 8. And one-fourth part of the six slaves aforesaid, for five hundred thirty-seven Dollars and half - 537.4 = 1173.3 1/2 And the said Baptiste David, as Curator for Michel Bihm, has agreed to take for the share of said Michel: 1. One broke horse, for thirty-five Dollars - 35; 2. Two mares and colts for forty Dollars - 40; 3. Two mares without colts, for thirty Dollars - 30; 4. One stud horse, for twenty-five Dollars - 25; 5. Twelve cows without calves, for ninety Dollars - 90; 6. Eighty-three head of young cattle, for four hundred and fifteen Dollars - 415; 7. Cash, seven bits and half - 0.7 1/2; 8. And one-fourth part of the six negroes as aforementioned for five hundred and thirty-seven Dollars and a half - 537.4 = 1173.3 1/2 And the said parties, as aforesaid mutually guarantee the titles of the different objects and property one to the other, according to this act of division and acquit and release the said Widow from all claims on pretensions whatever to the Estate of the said deceased, aforesaid.
