All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Recorded 15 December 1809 On November 7, 1809, Daniel Sutton, Justice of the Peace of Parish at the request of the heirs (unnamed) went to the house of the deceased on Bayou Mallet for the Inventory/Appraisal of the Estate of Mary Bihm. The heirs appointed Anaclet Cormier, William McCoy, and Pierre Placide Savoy as estimators. The Inventory included the following main items: various hand/work tools; barrels of potatoes; old and new corn; cotton in the field; baskets; jugs of vinegar; jugs of honey; tallow; a third barrel of flour; pots of various sizes; cherry wood planks; a looking glass; a cherry table; 2 spinning wheels; iron wedges; empty bottles; kitchen ware, including plates, dishes, crockery; 2 feather beds; 14 chairs; 7 blankets; 2 sheets; 3 coverlids; 2 old umbrellas; old German books; horses (mares with and without colts), some described as 'dun'; work horses; 63 cows and calves; 6 cows and 2 beeves of 4 years; the brand, 5B; 50 heads of hogs; the Plantation with 14 acres front by the ordinary depth at Bois Mallet with the dwelling house and improvements, appraised at $1,000; A note on William McCoy for $350; a note on P. Lacaze for $30; a note on A. Cormier for $150; a note on Juan Matras for $5; and the following slaves: 1 mulatto woman, about 18 years old, named Betsey, appraised at $600 1 negro man slave, 25 years old, named George, appraised at $500 1 negro man slave, about 40 years old, named Sambo, appraised at $500 1 negro woman slave, about 45 years old, named Yarra, appraised at $400 The total inventory valued at $5,364 and 7 bits s/ Wm McCoy s/ Bte Davice [sic - probably David] s/ A. [possibly I] Sutton s/ Geo King PJudge On 27 November 1809, Daniel Sutton, Justice of the Peace, at the request of Baptiste David, administrator of the Estate of Mary Bihm and the heirs, went to the dwelling house on Bois Mallet for the sale at auction, items to be sold to the highest bidder at 11 and 2 years credit, one half payable in October 1811 (the remainder due a year later). Names of individuals appearing either as buyers or serving as security at one time or another are: Joseph Bergram, Joachim Hebert, Baptiste Dubrocard, Jean Baptiste Guillory, Eustache Monan, Joseph Savoy, Michel Prudhomme, William Link, Baptiste Lejunne, Francis Fruger, John Rider, Jacob Bihm, Joseph Lejeune, Hilaire Gradenigo, William McCoy, Jean Fruger, Pierre Placid Savoy, Benjamin Kidder, Charles Villin [sp?], Etienne Lamorandiere, James D. Reeves, Nathaniel Cochran, Anaclet Cormier, Michel Bihm, Jesse Yocum, Pierre Mattel, Joseph Istre, Francis Derozier, John Chapman, John Ortolan, Daniel Sutton, Walter McBride, Madam Hanchett [sp?], Joseph Finger, L'armant Dubaume [sp?]. Claiborne Governor of the Territory of Orleans and to his successors in office in the sum of three thousand dollars to be paid-Whereas the said Baptiste David has been appointed admininstrator of the Estate of Marie Bihm Deceased-now the condition of this obligation is such that if the said Baptiste David shall well and truly perform the duties of said administration and shall render a just and faithful account thereof when legally called upon and shall account and pay over the proceeds of the same according to Law and shall in and all things act and do as a good and upright administrator, that then this obligation to be void, otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue-done at Opelousas this thirteenth day of December Eighteen hundred and nine-Bte David (seal) Wm McCoy (seal) Witness D.
