Know all men by these presents that Joseph Young Senior and Patsey Haye his wife of the State of Louisiana and Parish of Saint Landry, having raised a large family of children and seen the youngest of them married, have thought proper in order to aid and assist them, to divide among them, a certain portion of their property, by equal shares, in property which the said children have taken by cant or licitation, to the amount of seven hundred and eighty - four dollars and sixty - two and a half cents each, it being understood that the deficiencies which must naturally occur by a division in that way, to some of the children, have been made up by those who have received larger amounts, so that they have received sums precisely equal. Now in order that the said children may have clear and legal titles to the several slaves which they have received as above stated, the said Joseph Young Senior and Patsey Haye his wife have given, granted, transfered and conveyed and do by this act give, grant, transfer, set over, convey and deliver in full right, to their son Joseph Young a mulate boy named Charles aged about sixteen years. And the said Joseph Young Senior and Patsey Hays have also deposited in the hands of the said John Baptiste Young and James Young the sum of seven hundred and eighty-four dollars and sixty-two and a half cents to be paid by them to the children and heirs of their deceased son Gilbert Young, whichsaid sum the said John Baptiste and James Young promise and oblige themselves their heirs to jointly and severally to pay to the said heirs of Gilbert Young with interest at the rate of six and a quarter percent per annum, when they shall be thereto legally required, that is to say when they shall arrive at the age of majority, or after the decease of one or both of the donors the legal representatives of the said children and heirs of Gilbert Young deceased may lawfully claim the same. In Consideration of the aforesaid conveyance the aforesaid children of Joseph Young and Patsey Hays promise and oblige themselves each one for him or herself to pay to them the said father and mother the annual sum of eighteen dollars, in the month of March of each year during their natural lives.
