Overton [Sale of Land] Recorded 18th June 1836 This deed made and entered into this eighteenth day of June in the Year one thousand eight-hundred and thirty six between Joseph Manuel Ortego and Joseph Marcellin Ortego of the Parish of St. Landry and State of Louisiana of the one part and J. H. Overton of the same Parish and State of the other part Witnesseth That for and in Consideration of the price of Six hundred Dollars Cash in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said Joseph Mannuel [sic] Ortego and Joseph Marcellin Ortego have bargained and sold and delivered and do by this public act bargain, sell and deliver unto the said J. H. Overton present and accepting a certain tract of land situated in the Parish of Avoyells [sic] containing one hundred and fifty nine acres 81/100 acres described in the public Surveys as the East half of the North West quarter of Section number twenty nine and the East half of the South West quarter of Section twenty in Township one north Range Six East, it being the same tract this day purchased by us of the United States as per Receiver's Receipt No. 1690--To have and to hold the above described land to the said J. H. Overton his heirs & assigns forever with full and perfect warranty against the claims or claims of themselves and heirs & against the claim or claims of all and every person whatsoever--The purchaser dispenses with the certificate as required by the 3328th Article of the Louisiana Code has signed this Deed--The Sellors [sic] making their ordinary mark not knowing how to write have all signed this act in presence of the undersigned Judge and witnesses the day and date aforesaid Joseph x Mannuel Ortego -- Joseph x Marcellin Ortego --J.
