Overton to Marsden Campbell Deed of Partition 17th June 1836 Recorded This Deed of Partition made the seventeenth day of June in the year one thousand eight hundred and thirty six between John Holmes Overton and Patrick Henry Overton of the State of Louisiana and parish of St. Landry of the one part, and Marsden Campbell Jun. of the same State and Parish aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that whereas the parties have purchased from the Goverment [sic] of the United States a tract of land containing thirteen hundred and fifty four acres being Sections numbered four in Township number three South of Range numbered three East and the Section numbered thirty eight in Township number two South of the thirty first degree of the north Latitude, of Range number three East of the basis [sic] meredian [sic] in the Southwestern District of the State of Louisiana situated in the County of Opelousas and whereas one half of the said land purchased as aforesaid has immediately in the rear of a tract of land belonging to the John H. Overton & Patrick H. Overton and the other half in the rear of a tract of land belonging to the said Marsden Campbell Junr. And whereas the parties have agreed to divide the said tract of land so as that each party shall have the land in the rear of the land previously owned by them, that is, that the said John H. Overton & Patrick H. Overton shall have the land immediately behind their original tract of twenty by forty arpens & that the said Marsden Campbell Junr. shall have the land immediately behind, his tract, and to be divided by a line in continuation of that which heretofore divide their land. Now therefore in consideration of the premises they the said John H. Overton & Patrick H. Overton have conveyed and do hereby convey, transfer set over alien and confirm to him the said Marsden Campbell Junr. his heirs and assigns the half of the tract of land so purchased as aforesaid which lies in the rear of his original tract to have and to hold the same to him the said Marsden Campbell Jr. his heirs and assigns forever--and the said Marsden Campbell Jr. has conveyed and does hereby convey, transfer, set over alien and confirm to them the said John H. Overton and Patrick H. Overton the half of the tract of land purchased as aforesaid which lies immediately in the rear of their original tract so to be divided as aforesaid--To have and to hold the same to them the said John H. Overton & Patrick H. Overton and to their heirs and assigns forever--In testimony whereof the parties have hereunto signed and affixed there [sic] seals in presence of Caleb Green Jr. and Benoist Debaillon competent Witnesses and before George King Parish Judge in and for the aforesaid Parish of St. Landry at Opelousas the day & year above written-- J.
