Pierre Thibodeau To Urbain Lavergne  
Sale of Land
Recorded 21st June 1836

Know all men by these presents that whereas about ten years ago the late Piere
[sic] Thibodeau of the State of Louisiana and Parish of St. Landry deceased,
sold, verbally, and delivered to Urbain Levergne of the same State and Parish
aforesaid a certain tract or parcel of land situated in the aforesaid Parish &
lying in the Prairie Belliveau bounded on one side by Louis Chacheré and  on
the other by the widow Baptiste Thibodeau having one and a fourth arpens front
by twenty seven in depth for the price and sum of one hundred and twenty
dollars, which said sum the said Urbain Lavergne paid to the said Pierre
Thibodeau in Cash, within the knowledge of the widow of said deceased and of
several of his children, and particularly Louis Thibodeau and Marie Azelie
Thibodeau widow of Baptiste Thibodeau here present & declaring the same. Now
therefore Margaret Richard widow of the said Pierre Thibodeau deceased for
herself & her minor children and for her heirs &c. has ratified the aforesaid
verbal sale and does by this act ratify and confirm the same as fully as
though it had been written and executed in due form in the lifetime of said
deceased and for herself her heirs &c the tract of land so described as
aforesaid against the lawful claims of all persons whatever to the said Urbain
Lavergne his heirs & assigns does Warrant & will forever defend.  In Testimony
whereof she has hereunto signed together with the said Louis Thibodeau & widow
Baptiste Thibodeau, in presence of Caleb Green Jr. and Benoist Debaillon
competent witnesses & before George King Parish [Judge] in and for the
aforesaid Parish of St. Landry at Opelousas this twenty first day of June in
the Year one thousand eight hundred & thirty six.  Margaret x Richard widow
