Thibodeau Sale of Land Recorded 21st June 1836 Know all men by these presents that whereas about ten Years ago the late Pierre Thibodeau of the State of Louisiana and Parish of St. Landry deceased, sold verbally, and delivered to his son Jean Bt. Thibodeau of said State and Parish a certain tract or parcel of land situated in the aforesaid Parish and lying in the Prairie Belliveu bounded on one side by Urbain Lavergne and on the other by land owned by him the seller, having two & an half arpens front by twenty seven in depth, for the price and sum of two hundred & forty dollars, which said sum the said Jean Bt. Thibodeau paid to the said Pierre Thibodeau in Cash, within the knowledge of the widow of said deceased and of several of his children and particularly Louis Thibodeau here present and declaring the same. And whereas the said Jean Bt. Thibodeau is since dead, and his succession, including the aforesaid tract of land has been adjudicated to her at the Price of estimation. Now therefore Margaret Richard widow of the said Pierre Thibodeau deceased for herself and her minor children & for her heirs &c has ratified the above recited verbal sale and does by this act ratify and confirm the same as fully as though it had been written and executed in due form in the life time of the said Pierre Thibodeau deceased. And for herself her heirs &c the tract of land so described as aforesaid against the lawful claims of all persons whatever to Marie Azelie Richard widow of the said Jean Bte. Thibodeau to whom the said property has been adjudicated, does warrant and will forever defend. In Testimony whereof she has hereunto signed together with the said widow Jean Bte. Thibodeau & Louis Thibodeau in presence of Caleb Green Jr. and Benoit Debaillon competent Witness & before George King Parish Judge in and for the Parish of St. Landry at Opelousas this twenty first day of June in the Year One thousand eight hundred and thirty six--the parties not knowing how to write have signed by making there [sic] ordinary mark-- mark x of Margaret Richard widow Thibodeau mark x of Marie Azelie Richard widow of Bte.
