Thompson to James Morrison Sale of Land Recorded 20th June 1836 This deed of Sale made this twentieth day of June one thousand eight-hundred & thirty six between Joseph Darvill Thompson of the State of Louisiana and Parish of St. Landry, of the one part, and James Morrison of the same State & Parish of Rapides of the other part witnesseth--That for and in consideration of the price & sum of Eight hundred and sixty dollars & seventeen cents, payable in January next, and the said Morrison gives to the said Thompson his promissory note for the above mentioned purchase money bearing interest, at the rate of ten percent per anum [sic] from the date thereof until payment. The said Thompson has bargained and sold & does by these presents grant, bargain, sell, alien, convey, set over and deliver unto him the said Morrison one undivided third part of the following tract of lands to wit 1st the North West quarter of Section number thirty five in Township Two North, of range One East, containing one hundred & sixty acres more or less 2nd Lots numbered Three and Five in Section twenty six of same Township aforesaid containing One hundred and ninety seven 20/100 acres-- 3rd The West half of the South West quarter of Section twenty five in same Township, containing eighty acres more or less, all which tracts of land are situated in the parish of Rapides aforesaid, & were purchased & entered at the Land Office at Opelousas by said Thompson on the 17th day of June 1836. To have & to hold the said tracts of land to him the said Morrison, his heirs and assigns forever. And the title to the said several tracts of land to him the said Morrison the said Thompson does warrant and will forever defend free from the lawful claims of all persons claiming by through or under him. And the said Thompson retaining a mortgage on all the property above described until payment of said obligation for said sum of Eight hundred and sixty dollars seventeen cents. In witness whereof the said parties have hereunto signed at Opelousas in presence of Caleb Green Jr. & Benoit Debaillon competent witness & before George King Parish Judge and ex-officio Notary Public in and for said Parish of Saint Landry the day and year above written.
