The supreme court of Louisiana has affirmed the verdict and death sentence in the 
case of Hilaire Carriere, the slayer of former sheriff Marion L. Swords of St. 
Landry parish. It is reported that an appeal to the supreme court of the United 
States will be taken by counsel for the prisoner, based on the allegation that he 
was not given a fair and impartial trial.
