Dr. A. D. Harmanson shot and instantly killed Chas. H. Medicis last Sunday morning at about 8 o'clock. The killing occurred in the eastern portion of town near the residence of both parties. Medicis was on his way to town. When a short distance from Dr. Harmanson's residence, the Doctor steppred from his gste, and from the sidewalk fired a shot at Medicis, but did not hit him. Medicis ran, but the second shot struck him in the back, between the shoulders, and he fell. The Doctor then walked up to him and fired the third shot into his head. Both wounds were fatal, as the first striking him, broke the spinal column. The last shot went crashing through the brain. Dr. Harmanson at once drove to town and surrendered to the authorities, and is in jail. For some months a daughter of Dr. Harmanson had been receiving vile and obscene anonymous letters. They were sent through the mail, thrown in the yard, and even placed on the young lady's desk at the school house, where she is a teacher. Naturally, the father, and her brother, John Harmanson, took the matter up, and for these many months have been conducting a quiet but tireless investigation, and when the father became convinced in his own mind that Medicis was the guilty party, he took his rifle and went hunting for him. All day Saturday he looked for him, but could not find him. He walked the streets with the rifle on his shoulder, but of course, no one devined that he was gunning for a human life. He saw him Sunday morning, as stated, and shot him down. The matter of the anonymous letters was submitted to four friends of the Doctor, before he acted. The letters received by his daughter were compared with Medicis' hand writing. All the evidence in his possession was submitted to them; and when they told him that Medicis was the guilty party, he says there was no course for him to take than to kill him. There were other troubles between the Harmansons and the Medicis. They are neighbors, and some months ago they had a difficulty about cattle breaking into each other's premises. Dr. Harmanson will not apply for bail, but will wait for the grand jury to meet. Medicis was a brick mason by trade, and was 30 years old. He was born and raised near the place where he met his death. Additional Comments: Charles H.
