Turkey Creek
Turkey Creek, St. Landry, La., May 9th, 1891
At a stated meeting of the Turkey Creek Farmers' Union, the following preamble and
resolutions were unanimously adopted:
Whereas, the members of the Farmers' Union of the Chicot precinct have thought it
wise and to the best interest of our people to petition the Democratic executive
committee of the parish of St. Landry, to change the polling place in that precinct;
and
Whereas, at the Bayou Chicot Union, Bro. H. D. Courtney was delegated to draft the
said petition; and whereas, he was acting in strict obedience to the indtructions of
the Union; and whereas, some individual or individuals, for reasons of their own,
lay great stress and censure at the door of Bro. H. D. Courtney; therefore, be it
resolved that we do hereby indorse [sic] and approve in full the labors of Bro.
Courtney in drafting the said petition; that we as an organized body of free men are
responsible for the work of our delegated servants, that we as loyal Democrats stand
by every provision of the aforesaid petition, and that we here reiterate our demands
upon the executive committee to move the polling place as asked for in the petition
as early as possible, that a copy of these resolutions be sent to the St. Landry
Clarion and a copy to the Farmers' Vidette at Alexandria, with request that they be
published.
