By virtue of an order from the Honorable the District Court of the 8th. Judicial District of the State of Louisiana, holding it's session in and for the Parish of St. Landry, there will be sold at public sale to the last and highest bidder through the ministry of Evariste Debaillon, Public Auctioneer, or any other competent officer on the Plantation hereinafter described, on Tuesday, the 10th. March next, 1863, the following described property, belonging to the Estate of said Virginie Gaberel, deceased wife of Andre Prud'homme, late of the Parish of St. Landry, to wit: The Plantation, upon which the deceased last resided, situated in Church Prairie, in St. Landry, distant about four miles from the Town of Opelousas, measuring about three hundred and ninety arpents of land (superficial measure) bound North by Damenville Dejean and Mr. Terrell. South by Mrs. Widow Bullard and Mrs. Widow Knox, and West by Mrs. Widow Wm Prud'homme, together with all and singular the building and improvements thereon erected and there to pertaining. A TRACT OF LAND, situated on Bayou Mallet, in Prairie Faquetaique, in the Parish of St. Landry, measuring about eight hundred superficial arpents (more or less) bounded on the East by said Bayou Mallet, South by Jacob Bihm, and North by land formerly belonging to Francois Aquillard. 26 SLAVES, to wit: Antoine, mulatto boy, aged about 12 yrs George, negro man, aged about 55 yrs Bucca, negro man, aged about 26 yrs Joe, mulatto boy, aged about 14 yrs Antony, negro man, aged about 50 yrs Daniel, negro man, aged about 66 yrs Edouard, negro man, aged about 35 yrs Jacquo, negro boy, aged about 14 yrs Theodule, negro boy, aged about 12 yrs Stepp, negro boy, aged about 45 yrs Adolphe, mulatto man, aged about 35 years Nelly, negro woman, aged about 45 yrs Marianne, negro woman, aged about 30 yrs Felicianne, (girl) aged about 16 yrs Vienna, negro woman, aged about 40 yrs Scholastine, mulatto woman, aged about 40 years, with her children, Victorin, 6 years, Nelson, 4 years and Hennie, 2 years Marguerite, negro woman, aged about 30 years, with her four children, Julienne, 9 years, Margueritte, 7 years, Amelie, 4 yrs., and Jeff, 2 years. Clarisse, negro woman, aged about 18 years, with her infant child, afflicted. 3 pair work mules One pair carriage horses One pair Creole work horses Four horses Two mules 3 work oxen 21 head of horned cattle Four fat hogs One lot of hogs 47 head of sheep One family carriage and harness A lot of cotton in seed Five barrels of rice One wagon One ox cart One horse cart One lot of corn in the shucks Six sacs of fodder 8 potatoe hills Aratory implements Household furniture Kitchen utensils, and many other articles, the enumeration of which would be to tedious. Terms and Conditions - All and every adjudications of twenty dollars and under, payable cash, and all and every adjudications upwards of twenty dollars, payable one-third on the 1st. of April 1864, one-third on the 1st. of April 1865, and the last third on the 1st. of April next following, (1866.) Purchasers furnishing good and solvent securities in solido, to the satisfaction of the Administrator of said Estate, and all sums not punctually paid at maturity, to bear interest at the rate of 8 per cent. per annum from time due until paid. And moreover, the lands and slaves remaining specially mortgaged and hypothecated unto the Estate until full and entire payment of capital and the interests which may accrue thereon. Payments to be made at the office of Dupre' & Garland, in the Town of Opelousas. It is well understood that by virtue of the deliberations of a Family meeting, heirs of said Estate, if purchasing, will also have to furnish the same sureties as ordinary purchasers.
