LEBEAU - Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Mae Adams, 74, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in 
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church here with burial in St. Mary Catholic Church Cemetery 
in Port Barre.
The Rev. Tarallo, pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, will conduct the services.
Mrs. Adams, a resident of Palmetto and a native of Port Barre, died Saturday, September 20, 
1997, in Opelousas General Hospital.
Survivors include: two sons, John B. Adams Jr. of Opelousas and Martin Anthony Journet of 
Palmetto; eight daughters, Theresa A. Cain and Margaret A. Burks, both of Houston, Texas, Mary 
A. Edwards, Alice A. Shaw and Pauline A. Boagni, all of Opelousas, Lou E. Adams and Jennie 
Journet, both of Palmetto, and Lovenia J. Jones of Lake Charles; four stepchildren, Rosevelt 
Hardy, Leroy Hardy, Caroline H. Jones and Mae Ellen Hardy, all of Port Barre; three sisters, 
Virgie J. Ernestine of New Orleans, Alice Woods of Opelousas and Mary J. Romar of Palmetto; 
27 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Adams Sr.; a brother, Joseph Levi 
Journet; and a sister, Louise Bella Journet.
A wake will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in 
Lebeau. A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m.

PALMETTO - Funeral services for Mrs. Judy Stelly Alexander, 36, will be held at 10 a.m. 
Monday in the First Church of God here. Burial will be in the St. James Baptist Church 
Cemetery in Moreauville.

Mrs. Alexander died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, in her Palmetto residence. 
Survivors include her husband, Jackie Alexander of Palmetto; her mother-in-law and 
father-in-law, James Alexander Sr. and Pearlie Alexander, both of Palmetto; five brothers, 
Paul Stelly Jr. and William Stelly, both of Simmesport, John Ballard and Walter Ballard, both 
of Bordelonville, and Ervin Stelly of Houston, Texas; and four sisters, Bobbie Davis and Sarah 
Jones, both of Chicago, Ill., Linda Ballard of Milwaukee, Wis., and Emma Parker of Cottonport.
Mrs. Alexander was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Alvirda Stelly.

Mrs. Anderson, a resident of Ville Platte, died Tuesday, October 28, 1997, in Ville Platte 
Medical Center.

of Ville Platte; a son, Kerral Anderson Jr. of Ville Platte; four brothers, Lee Dixon Jr.,

Anderson of Ville Platte and Eula Mae Jacob of Grand Prairie; two grandchildren; a 
great-grandchild; and a step grandchild.

KROTZ SPRINGS - Funeral services for Mr. Mogue Ardoin, 93, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in 
St. Anthony Catholic Church here with burial in the church cemetery.

Mr. Ardoin, a resident of Krotz Springs, died at 9:25 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 1997,  in Columbia 
Doctors' Hospital of Opelousas. He was a house painter.
Survivors include two sons, Milton John Ardoin of Baker and Joseph Elton Ardoin of Slidell; six 
stepdaughters, Suzanne Guilbeau, Ruby Barron and Mary Alice Bihm, all three of Leonville, 
Marylyn Trahan of Opelousas, Subille Schexsnayder of Melville, and Ollie Lavergne of Livonia; 
two brothers, Avie Ardoin of Baton Rouge and Joseph "To-To" Ardoin of Krotz Springs; three 
sisters, Gladys Hebert and Lelia Stelly of Krotz Springs and Lena Noah of Miami, Fla.; 20 
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Ardoin was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Lizzy Roy Ardoin; a son, E.J. 
Ardoin; two sisters, Ellen Hegden and Elda Taylor; and a brother, Theodore Ardoin.
Visitation will be held from 3-10 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. Monday until the time of 
services. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

Mr. Auzenne died at 8:36 p.m. Sunday, October 12, 1997, at his residence. He was a member of 
the Inseparable Friends Benevolent Society.

Gobert Auzenne of Opelousas; six sons, Quincy Mason Richard of Opelousas, John Mason

Alexandria, Mathis Richard of Camp Penton, Calif., and Larry Cretien of Lafayette; two 
daughters, Corlette Marie Auzenne Pruitt and Alice Faye Auzenne Thierry, both of Opelousas; 
six brothers, Joseph Auzenne, Wilbert Auzenne, Harold Auzenne and Bernice Auzenne, all of 
Houston, Texas, Wilfred Auzenne of Opelousas and Peter Auzenne of San Diego, Calif.; four 
sisters, Georgia Mae Doucet and Janice Thomas, both of Opelousas, Betty Lemon and Georgiana 
Richard, both of Houston, Texas; and 15 grandchildren.
Mr. Auzenne was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Auzenne; and a brother, James 
Auzenne.

PORT BARRE - Funeral services for Mrs. Vina Venable Bellard, 80, will be held at 10 a.m. 
Monday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church here with burial in the Old Sacred Heart Mausoleum.
Mrs. Bellard, a resident of Port Barre, died at 7 p.m. Friday in Opelousas General Hospital. 
Survivors include her husband, Leonce Bellard Sr. of Port Barre; four sons, Shelton Bellard, 
Leonce Bellard Jr. and Hervy Bellard, all three of Port Barre, and Dale Bellard of Pass 
Christian, Miss.; two daughters, Mrs. Eli (Mercy) Higdon and Mrs. Robert (Loyce) Devillier, both 
of Port Barre; two brothers, Gervis Venable and Elizia Venable, both of Church Point; a sister, 
Noime Estillette of Scott; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 
and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bellard was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Chaisson; and three grandchildren, 
Tammy Prudhomme, Glenn Prudhomme and Mickey Bellard.
Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. until the time of 
services Monday. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral services for Miss Geraldine "Geri" Bellemin, 51, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St.
Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas with burial in St. Charles Cemetery in Grand Coteau.
Miss Bellemin, a resident of Opelousas, died at 2:07 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 1997, in 
Opelousas General Hospital. She was an employee of First Federal Homestead in Opelousas for 
27 years.
Survivors include: a special friend, Glynn Savage of Opelousas and his two children, Buddy 
Savage and Margie Ann Savage; and five sisters, Mrs. Rodney (Gennie) Manuel of Eunice, Mrs. 
Jim (Buddy) Babe of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Albert (Bea) Rolla of Bastrop, Texas, Mrs. Alton 
(Marie) Fritsche of Weimer, Texas, and Mrs. Miguel (Jean) Cuadros of Atlanta, Ga.
Miss Bellemin was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Bellemin; and a 
brother, Charles Bellemin.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lorraine Bertrand Bergeron, 80, were held at 10 a.m. today in St. 
Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas with burial in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Trahan and Rev. Green conducted the services.
Mrs. Bergeron, a native of Lawtell, former resident of Opelousas and a resident of Lafayette, 
died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 29, 1997, at her residence in Lafayette. She was a 
retired public school teacher having taught in St. Landry Parish for many years. Mrs. Bergeron 
was a graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart College and the University of 
Southwestern Louisiana.
Survivors include: two sons, Bobby Cormier of Lafayette and Jerry Cormier of Opelousas; a 
daughter, Mrs. Sugie Blanchard of Lafayette; a sister, Mrs. Ames (Jeanne) Robin of Opelousas; 
11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and a step 
great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bergeron was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert J. Cormier; her second 
husband, Shelly Bergeron; and her parents, T.P. and Mabel Bertrand Sr.
Donations may be made to Hospice of Acadiana in Lafayette.
Visiting hours were observed from 5 to 10 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. today until time of 
services. A rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m.

Mission, a member of the Senior Choir, Sunday School Dept., Matron and the Pastors' Aide 
Committee.
Survivors include: her husband, Elbert Bolden of Opelousas; her parents, Melvin and Mable 
Beauty Sr. of Houma; a son, Christopher Torrod Ned of Opelousas; a stepson, Durphy Devon 
Thomas of Opelousas; a stepdaughter, Katina Lanece Smith of Opelousas; three brothers,

Funeral services for Mr. Oren David Briggs, 90, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Sibille 
Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas with burial in Myrtle Grove Cemetery.
Bro. Mark Duncan will conduct the services.
Mr. Briggs, a native and resident of Opelousas, died at 10 a.m. Sunday, October 19, 1997, in 
Opelousas General Hospital. He was a lifelong member of the Westminster Presbyterian 
Church and served as an elder. Mr. Briggs was a member of the Camellia Society and was 
co-owner of Briggs Electrical Supply for 50 years.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Mildred Sandoz Briggs of Opelousas; a son and 
daughter-in-law, Byron and Becky Briggs of Opelousas; a daughter and son-in-law, Michael and 
Cheryl DuBose of Thomasville, Ga.; a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Briggs of 
Opelousas; four grandchildren, Brett and Lisa Briggs, and Blair Briggs, all of Opelousas, 
Michelle DuBose, and Scott and Tina DuBose, all of Thomasville, Ga.; and a great-grandchild, 
Erin DuBose. Also survived by a stepson, Richard Griffin; a stepdaughter, Karen Barnett; and a
step granddaughter, Jolie Barnett.
Mr. Briggs was preceded in death by his parents, David and Teresa Carriere Briggs; and his 
first wife, Lockett Jones Briggs.

Mrs. Broussard was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Broussard Sr.; and a brother,

Mary Brown, 8 Oct 1997
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Pauline Woodruff Brown, 93, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday 
in Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery in 
Washington.
The Rev. Angelo Cremaldi will conduct the services.
Mrs. Brown, a native of Colfax, lived most of her life in Opelousas prior to moving to Sulphur 9
years ago, died at 2:30 a.m. Monday, October 6, 1997, in a Lake Charles hospital. She was a 
graduate of SLI. Mrs. Brown taught at Washington High School and Park Vista Elementary in 
Opelousas. She was a past member of Opelousas Garden Club, Les Dames D'Etude Literary Club, 
Young at Heart and Louisiana Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Brown was a member of Our 
Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Sulphur.
Survivors include: a daughter, Jacquelyn Brown Farrar of Sulphur; a son, Charles Donald Brown 
Jr. of Auburn, Ala.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Donald Brown Sr.
Visiting hours will be observed from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday

LAWTELL - Funeral services for Major John M. Cristler Jr., U.S. Army, 48, will be held at noon 
Friday in St. Bridget Catholic Church here with burial in the church cemetery.

Major Cristler, a native of Buffalo, WY, and past resident of Albany, Ga., for 5 years, and 
Slidell for the past 12 years, died Saturday, October 4, 1997, in Chalmette General Medical 
Center. He was a Human Resources Manager for Folgers Coffee from 1977 to 1995 and 
currently with Bayou Steel.
He was a graduate of West Point in 1971 and a veteran of the Vietnam War and the Persian 
Gulf War serving in the U.S. Army from 1971-1978 and the U.S. Army Reserve from 1989-1997 
as a Infantry Officer and Transportation Officer.
Major Cristler was awarded 2 NDSM-National Defense Service Medals, EIB-Expert Infantry 
Badge, Parachute Badge-(Wings), 3 ARCOM-Army Commendation Medals, Army Service Ribbon, 
JSAM-Joint Service Achievement Medal, JCSM-Joint Service Commendation Medal, Reserve 
Commendation Medal, U.S. Army Reserve and Superior Unit Award. He was also a Master Mason 
and member of the West Point Lodge No. 877 F. & A.M.
Survivors include: his wife, Ruby Bourgeois Cristler of Slidell; his children, John M. Cristler 
of Shreveport, Shaun R. Cristler of New Mexico, Ryan M. Cristler of Slidell and Courtney B. 
Cristler of Memphis, Tenn.; his mother, Jean Lawrence Cristler; and numerous nieces, 
nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Major Cristler was preceded in death by his father, John M. Cristler Sr.
Visiting hours will be observed after 10 a.m. Friday until time of services in St. Bridget 
Catholic Church in Lawtell.

Mr. Deshotel, a resident of Opelousas, died at 3:50 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997,  in Opelousas

Mr. Guillory, son ot the late Milburn Guillory and the former Agnes Roberie, was a native of 
Opelousas and a resident of Lafayette for the past 10 years. He was a graduate of Opelousas 
Catholic High School. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Guillory served during World War II. He 
was owner of L.G. Guillory's Grocery in Opelousas since 1972.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Grace Poirrier Guillory of Lafayette; two sisters, Winnie 
Kinball of Opelousas and Annie Searle of Sulphur; a brother, Roy Guillory of New Roads; two 
step-daughters, Merlie Harrington of Crowley and Jackie Thibodeaux of Lafayette; and several 
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Nelton Guillory.

Mr. Martin, a resident of Arnaudville, died Tuesday, October 14, 1997, in Columbia Doctors' 
Hospital in Opelousas. He was a life-long resident of St. Landry Parish, having been raised in 
the "Prairie Des Femmes" area and moving to Arnaudville later.
He was a farmer, service station operator with his brother, Harris, and also worked with 
Russell and Jeanette Olivier at Olivier's Exxon for many years. He was a resident of Michael 
Morrow Nursing Home at the time of his death and was a life-long member of the Woodmen of 
the World. Mr. Martin was a member of the Holy Name Society and a weekly participant of the 
Chapel of Adoration.
Although Jacques never married, he was very close to his nieces and nephews and very 
interested in their future, assisting when he could. He loved meeting new people and 
socializing with the family to discuss current events and special occasions.
He will be sadly missed by two brothers, Harris J. Martin, and his wife, Joyce, of Arnaudville, 
and Jean Raymond Martin Jr. and his wife, Rosemary, of Lafayette; two sisters, Lucy Guilbeau 
and her husband, Alex, of Carencro and Dolores Ann Olivier and her husband, Leroy "L.J.", of 
Lafayette; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Jean Raymond Martin Sr. and Armance Robin 
Martin.
Visiting hours will be observed from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and from 7 a.m. Friday until time 
of services. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

was a parishioner of Holy Ghost Catholic Church which he was affiliated with the following 
organizations: Knights of Peter Claver, Court #8, 4th Degree Assembly 7 of Knights of Peter 
Claver, a Eucharistic Minister and a lector. Mr. Roberts was a member of the B.U.S.T. Chapter 
UGAMMA, St. Landry Pioneers AARP and served on the AARP Nominating Committee, and an
associate member of the St. Landry Parish Retired Teachers Association. He also served in the 
United States Army for three years.
Survivors include: a son, Paul A. Roberts Jr. of Lafayette; two daughters, Paula M. Roberts and 
Angela A. Roberts, both of Opelousas; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Tonya L. Roberts of Lafayette; 
two brothers, Murphy Roberts of Opelousas and Thomas Roberts of Lake Charles; a 
brother-in-law, Michael Lemelle of Opelousas; Mrs. Joseph Guillory (Mary) of Lake Charles, 
Mrs. Elva Chenier of DeQuincy, Mrs. Stella Lee and Mrs. Horace Lemelle (Catherine), both of 
Baytown, Texas, and Mrs. Rufus Mathews (Elnora) of Opelousas; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Lois 
Lemelle and Mrs. Vincent Simien (Mercedes), both of Opelousas; and a grandson, Ethan 
Alexander Roberts of Lafayette.
Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine L. Roberts; his parents, John Peter 
Roberts and Lorena Gobert; two brothers; and four sisters.

Mary Hunt and Mrs. Beulah Joseph, all of Opelousas; a brother, Edward Thomas of Opelousas; a 
sister, Mrs. Cecila Barrow of Opelousas; 34 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren.
A wake were held from 7 to 10:45 a.m. today in Williams Funeral Home in Opelousas, which 
was in charge of arrangements. A rosary was recited at 9 a.m.

Funeral services for Mr. Roderick "Rod" Tippett, 87, were held at 1 p.m. Sunday in 
Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on the Old Sunset Hwy. in Opelousas with burial in Bellevue 
Cemetery.
Mr. Tippett, a resident of Opelousas, died at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 1997, in Opelousas 
General Hospital. He was a retired vice-president from Knaus Truck Lines.
Survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. Ward (Judy) Land of Opelousas, Mrs. Anthony (Bonnie) 
Budnick of Glen Arbor, Mich., and Mrs. Charles (Geri) Ross of Kingwood, Texas; and four 
grandchildren, Holly Ann Olds of Dallas, Texas, Kyle Christopher Ross of Houston, Texas, 
Andrea Dawn Ross of Dallas, Texas, and Melody Joy Ross of Baton Rouge.
Mr. Tippett was preceded in death by his wife, Theobelle Christina Tippett.
Visiting hours were observed from 10:30 a.m. Sunday until time of services.

Mr. Turner, a resident of Richard, died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, 1997, at his 
residence. He was a retired drilling superintendent.

EUNICE - Funeral services for Mr. Vernon Veillon, 67, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in 
Ardoin's Funeral Home Chapel here with burial in the Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. Veillon, a resident of Eunice, died at 4:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997, in Eunice Regional 
Hospital. He was a retired postal clerk and veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Vernon (Jane) Savoy Veillon of Eunice; a son, Dr. Tim Veillon 
of Lufkin, Texas; a brother, Nick Veillon of Eunice; and a grandson, Derrick Veillon of Lufkin, 
Texas.
Mr. Veillon was preceded in death by his parents, Dominick and Vivian Veillon, and a daughter, 
Shelia Veillon.
Visttaion will be held from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday and from 7 a.m. until the time of 
services Monday. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday.

PORT BARRE - Funeral services for Mr. John Clifton "Johnny" Young, 82, were held at 2 p.m. 
today in Sibille Funeral Home Chapel here with burial in the Baptist Cemetery in Krotz 
Springs.
Mr. Young, a resident of Port Barre, died at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 1997, in Opelousas 
General Hospital. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps having served during World War 
II in England, France, North Africa and Russia. Mr. Young was a member of the VFW in Port 
Barre.
Survivors include: his devoted wife of 61 years, Jewell M. Moore Young of Port Barre; a 
daughter, Jeanette Eloise Gaspard of Jennings; a brother-in-law and wife, George and June 
Moore of Homestead, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Workman of Victoria, Texas; a sister-in-law, 
Agnes Young of Slidell; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
