She was a retired public school teacher having taught in St. Landry Parish for many years. Mrs. Bergeron was a graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart College and the University of Southwestern Louisiana. Mrs. Brown, a native of Colfax, lived most of her life in Opelousas prior to moving to Sulphur 9 years ago, died at 2:30 a.m. Monday, October 6, 1997, in a Lake Charles hospital. She was a graduate of SLI. Mrs. Brown taught at Washington High School and Park Vista Elementary in Opelousas. She was a past member of Opelousas Garden Club, Les Dames D'Etude Literary Club, Young at Heart and Louisiana Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Brown was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Sulphur. He was a farmer, service station operator with his brother, Harris, and also worked with Russell and Jeanette Olivier at Olivier's Exxon for many years. He was a resident of Michael Morrow Nursing Home at the time of his death and was a life-long member of the Woodmen of the World. Mr. Martin was a member of the Holy Name Society and a weekly participant of the Chapel of Adoration. Although Jacques never married, he was very close to his nieces and nephews and very interested in their future, assisting when he could. He loved meeting new people and socializing with the family to discuss current events and special occasions. He will be sadly missed by two brothers, Harris J. Martin, and his wife, Joyce, of Arnaudville, and Jean Raymond Martin Jr. and his wife, Rosemary, of Lafayette; two sisters, Lucy Guilbeau and her husband, Alex, of Carencro and Dolores Ann Olivier and her husband, Leroy "L.J.", of Lafayette; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Wheaton, a native of Washington and a resident of Opelousas, died at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 1997, in Opelousas General Hospital. John Young, 9 Oct 1997 PORT BARRE - Funeral services for Mr. John Clifton "Johnny" Young, 82, were held at 2 p.m. today in Sibille Funeral Home Chapel here with burial in the Baptist Cemetery in Krotz Springs. Mr. Young, a resident of Port Barre, died at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 1997, in Opelousas General Hospital. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps having served during World War II in England, France, North Africa and Russia. Mr. Young was a member of the VFW in Port Barre. Survivors include: his devoted wife of 61 years, Jewell M. Moore Young of Port Barre; a daughter, Jeanette Eloise Gaspard of Jennings; a brother-in-law and wife, George and June Moore of Homestead, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Workman of Victoria, Texas; a sister-in-law, Agnes Young of Slidell; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
