Abell Sr., the former Ara Dorman, were held at 11 a.m. today in the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, 1100 S. Union, Opelousas, with burial in Bellevue Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Abell, a native of Bunkie, was born December 28, 1909, and died Monday, November 17, 1997, in Baton Rouge after a brief illness. She was a graduate of Bolton High School. She is warmly remembered by her family and friends as a person of great good humor, common sense, energy and laughter; a loving wife, mother and friend. We will miss her. Mrs. Abell was active in the Episcopal Church wherever she lived, serving on the altar guild at St. James Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge, St. George's Episcopal Church in New Orleans and, most recently, at the Church of the Epiphany in Opelousas. Survivors include: her three children, Ann Abell and her husband, Leon K. Stiel of Baton Rouge, Edward C. Abell Jr. and his wife, Elaine M. Durbin of Lafayette and Susan Elizabeth Abell and her husband, Edley M. Hixson Jr. of DeRidder; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Abell was preceded in death by her husband, Edward C. Abell Sr.; her parents, John Dorman and Susan Sadler Dorman; and her four sisters, of whom she was the youngest.
