Garrison officiating. Mrs. Lawson's sweet and previous life was called from labor to reward on Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Northbay Medical Center in Fairfield, Calif. She was born August 12, 1922, to Thomas Montgomery and Maggie Brown in Whiteville. Her family later moved to Washington. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Emma Zion Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. E.D. Rideaux. Moving to Opelousas, she then united with the Jerusalem Baptist Church, Rev. C.J. Jones, pastor. She was later led by the spirit to the St. Paul Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Dr. H.J. Gilliams, where she served faithfully until her health failed, under the pastorate of the Rev. Willie Maynard Jr. Mrs. Lawson served many years as president of the Usher Board, member and teacher of the Sunday School, group leader of the Baptist Training Union, faithful worker in the women's auxiliary, deaconess and an untiring laborer wherever and whenever needed. Mrs. Lawson was married to Edward Lawson on October 12, 1943. To this union two children were born, James Edward and Lois Marie. She enjoyed walking for exercise and sharing her gift of sewing. Mrs. Lawson graduated from the Hamilton School of Beauty Culture in Beaumont, Texas, on November 21, 1944, and was self-employed until her retirement. Her organizational affiliations included membership in and Past Worthy Matron of Golden Star Chapter No. 26 O.E.S., and a member of the Royal and Exalted Order of Amaranth. She was also founder and sponsor of Golden Star Youth Fraternity No. 56, which was later renamed in her honor, as the L.L. Lawson Youth Fraternity No. 56. As an active member of the community, she also served as a special police officer with the Opelousas Police Department. She is survived by her children a son, James Edward Lawson of El Sobrante, Calif.; a daughter, Lois M. He was the son of the late Raymond Trahan, a native of Lafayette Parish, and the former Eunice Chiasson, a native of Acadia Parish. Mr. Trahan was employed by Louisiana Testing & Inspection for 25 years and was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic community. He was an active member of the Lafayette Boat Club for 20 years, having served as commodore for three terms and also held many other official positions. Mr. Trahan was also a very active member of the Greater Gulf Coast Boating Assoc., serving as president in 1990.
