Services will be conducted by the Rev. Danny Picard. Mrs. Babineaux, a housewife and resident of Lawtell, died at 8:40 a.m. Sunday, December 20, 1998, in Opelousas General Hospital. Survivors include: one son, Darrell J. Babineaux of Westwego; three daughters, Mrs. Bobby LaFleur, Karline Babineaux and Carolyn Babineaux, all of Lawtell; one brother, Andrew Fontenot of Belaire Cove; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Babineaux was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Babineaux; a grandchild, Dinah Babineaux; and her parents, Adam and Octavia Fontenot. Courvelle Sr., 78, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas with burial in Bellevue Memorial Park. The Rev. Angelo Cremaldi will conduct services. Mr. Courvelle, a resident of Opelousas, died at 2:55 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 1998, at his residence following a battle with cancer. Mr. Courvelle was the owner and operator of Courvelle Sales and Services in Opelousas since 1967. He was born in Garland, a rural St. Landry Parish farming community in the northern part of the parish. He was one of five children bearing the name Aaron Bernard Courvelle. He began his automobile career in 1955 in sales at Roy Motors. In 1967 he opened the Toyota Franchise Dealership that he still owned at the time of his death. He was awarded all the prestigious awards from Toyota that a dealership can be awarded. He was a member of the Louisiana Automobile Dealership Association and in 1994 he was awarded the Dealership of the Year award by the association. He was also listed among the "Who's Who" in Louisiana. He had a deep and undying faith in God and family. He was very involved with the Cursillo movement under the directorship of the Rev. Fedelles. He was a member of the Opelousas-St. Landry Chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of Directors for the American Bank and Trust Company in Opelousas. He was a lover of Cajun music and played the accordion, for more than 18 years and opened his dealership commercials with Cajun music. His life has not been just about selling cars, but to teach family and employees that it should "Always be my desire to succeed, and not just to survive." Survivors include: his wife, Maryina Thibodeaux Courvelle of Opelousas; a daughter, Emily Courvelle of Opelousas; three sons, Lambert Courvelle of Garland, Phillip Courvelle and A.B. Courvelle Jr., both of Opelousas; a brother, Ferdinand "Poke" Courvelle of Garland; two sisters, Mrs. Evia Francois of Garland and Mrs. James (Callie) Palmer of Opelousas; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Amar Courvelle; his parents, Amar and Ella Venable Courvelle; and a brother, Artelus Courvelle. Pallbearers will include John, Tony and Aaron Courvelle III, Creig and Chad Pitre and James Palmer Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Daley and Martin Roy. Pickney, 66, will be held today in Golden Star Baptist Church here. The wake will begin at 5 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 7 p.m. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Mount Olive Cemetery. The Rev. Matthew Alfred Jr. will conduct the services. Mr. Pickney, a retired educator/administrator of the St. Landry Parish School System, died at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, 1998, in Eunice Regional Medical Center. Brother Pickney was a faithful deacon and secretary of Golden Star Baptist Church. He also served the church as a member of the Male Chorus, Sunday School teacher Layman and Bible Study teacher. He was also involved in the Youth Ministry. Actively involved in community activities, he was secretary of the American Legion Post 529, Board Member of Eunice Housing Authority, St. Landry Parish Community Action Agency, Boys Sanctuary Inc., St. Landry Parish Council on Aging, Eunice Ministerial Alliance (Food Bank). He also found time to coach Little League Basketball. Survivors include: his four children, Sandra Arlette Muggu and Denise Shelvin, both of Jacksonville, Ala., Gregory Pickney and Gary Pickney, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sisters, Peggy Douglas of Eunice and Helnora Minnex of Houston, Texas; two daughters-in-law; two sons-in-law; and six grandchildren. Mr. Pickney was preceded in death by his parents, Carlton Pickney and Florence Pickney Lauderdale; his stepfather, Fred Lauderdale; his wife, Claudia Simpson Pickney; and two brothers, Morris and Horace Pickney.
