Brother John Young LAFAYETTE - A burial service for Brother John Young, FSC, 71, was held at 2 p.m. today in De La Salle - Christian Brothers here. Brother John, a native of Cheyenne, Wyoming, died Sunday, January 3, 1999, in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. Born on April 30, 1927, he was the son of Willis Rex Young and the former Mary Helen Hickey, both deceased. He entered the novitiate of the Christian Brothers of Lafayette on May 4, 1945. Brother John received the religious habit August 14, 1945. He made final profession of vows on July 2, 1952. As a teacher, Brother John served in ten Christian Brothers schools in the New Orleans-Santa Fe Province. From 1964-1967, he served as Director/Principal of the boys section of the Academy of the Immaculate Conception (now Opelousas Catholic High School) in Opelousas. He was a member of the De La Salle-Christian Brothers community in Lafayette, where he served for the past 19 years as guest master for group retreats. Visiting hours were observed from 1:15 p.m. today until time of services. He was employed by the Harlandale School System in San Antonio, Texas, for 21 years as an accountant and enjoyed being an active member of the Harlandale South Bexar County Educational Retirees Association after his retirement. The Rev. Pete Smith will conduct the services. Mrs. Perkins, a resident of Opelousas, died at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 1999, in Opelousas General Hospital. She attended school in Opelousas and went to college at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. She then went to work for the Daily World Newspaper in Opelousas, where she worked from 1941 to her retirement in 1984. Mrs. Perkins served as Advertising Manager from June 1979 until retirement. Over the years, she won numerous awards in the Louisiana Press Association Annual Competition for Excellence in Newspaper Advertising. Survivors include: a daughter, Michelle Perkins of Opelousas; a brother, J. Paul Boagni Jr. of Opelousas; two nieces, Belen Boagni Cross of Covington and Gina Boagni Bacon and husband Michael of Jensen Beach, Fla.; three great- nieces, Rachel Gremillion Taylor of Opelousas, Jessica Nicole Guillory of Jensen Beach, Fla., and Jennifer Cross of Covington; and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Perkins was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Perkins. He was a retired medical doctor and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was educated in the public schools in Melville, received a B.S. degree from LSU in 1940, a MS degree in 1942 and his MD from LSU Medical School in New Orleans in 1945. Dr. Gremillion served with the U.S. Army in Germany from 1946-1948. He practiced as a family doctor in Melville for several years, returned to Charity Hospital, New Orleans to specialize in internal medicine and moved to Opelousas in 1956 to practice for the next 35 years. Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Alice I. Gremillion of Opelousas; three sons, Edward F. Gremillion of Silver Spring, Md., Forest J. Gremillion and George D. Gremillion, both of Opelousas; a daughter, Patti G.
