The Rev. George Hampshire will officiate. Mr. Burleigh, a native of Melville and a retired iron worker, died Sunday, February 28, 1999, in Opelousas General Hospital. He was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include: his wife, Olive G. Burleigh of Melville; one son, Merrell Burleigh of Port Barre; one daughter, Linda B. Jaubert of Melville; one sister, Geneivie B. Watson of Baton Rouge; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervia Burleigh and Eurlie Richard, six sisters, three brothers and one grandson. Mrs. Harmon, a native of Opelousas, died at 11:52 a.m. Friday February 26, 1999, at Opelousas General Hospital. She was a retired bookkeeper who worked for Mornhinveg and Castille Jewelry Store in Opelousas for many years. Survivors include: her husband, Mr. Donald of Opelousas; three sons, Dr. Richard Harmon, Mr. Gary Harmon and Mr. David Harmon, all of Opelousas; one daughter, Mrs. Brenda H. Bennett of Baton Rouge; two brothers, Mr. Patrick Richard and Mr. J.C. Richard of Opelousas; a sister, Mrs. Carolyn Miceli of Baton Rouge; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mr. Darjean was born to the union of Francis and Vertie Darjean on February 12, 1947, in Opelousas. He died February 24, 1999, in Houston, Texas. He graduated from J.S. Clark High School in Opelousas, attended T.H. Harris Vocational Technical School in Opelousas, San Jacinto College in Houston, Texas, and Southern University in Baton Rouge. Mr. Darjean was a licensed air conditioning repair technician. Mr. Darjean was employed by Reed Tool Company for nine years. His employment for the past 16 years was with the Galena Park Independent School District. He served his country in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam war. Survivors include: his wife, the former Josie Thierry; two daughters, Michelle and Melissa; four sisters, Bertha Mae D. Bihm, Olivia Darjean, Geraldine Pierre-Auguste and Lauris D. Ms. Hossley, a native of Port Arthur, Texas, died at noon Thursday, March 4, 1999, in University Medical Center in Lafayette. She was the daughter of the late Harry Hossley and the former Helen Broussard. A resident of Lafayette for most of her life, she was a graduate of Lafayette High School, Class of 1958. She worked in building construction. An avid softball player and bowler, she participated in many leagues and was on many tournament championship teams. She had served with the United States Naval Reserve. Survivors include: two sisters, Merlene Faye Richard, her twin sister, Sandra L. Kennell, both of Lafayette; three nieces, Faye Dugas, Tessie Broussard and Kimberly Guidry; four nephews, Danny Richard, Cory Richard, Troy Guidry and Mark Guidry; three great-nieces, Nikki Dugas, Ashley Dugas and Baily Richard; and seven great-nephews, Brendon Ferry, Zachary Ferry, Joshua Guidry, Eddie Bodin, Justin Broussard, Beau Richard and Brook Richard. Brother Stiegler died of primary amyloidosis at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 1999, in the Jesuit Retirement Home in Algiers where he had resided for the last six year. He was a native of New Orleans and a graduate of St. Aloysius High School. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1943 in Grand Coteau where he was in studies for four years. Brother Stiegler studied philosophy at Spring Hill College, Mobile. Ala. He taught at Jesuit High School, Tampa, Fla., and Shreveport. Brother Stiegler served for 27 years in all at St. Charles College, Grand Coteau, and in the surrounding communities where he was active in the public schools as a volunteer and substitute teacher and did much to improve their physical plants as well. He was greatly loved by the students and well known by the parents and civic leaders. Brother Stiegler also served as treasurer at Spring Hill, Mobile, Ala., the Jesuit Provincial Office and for the Loyola Jesuit community in New Orleans. He was active in civic affairs, serving on the Citizens' Oversight Committee for the New Orleans Public Schools. Survivors include: four sisters, Ms. Irma Stiegler and Mrs. Maxine Lawrence of New Orleans, Mrs. Mary Lynn Kennedy of Houston, Texas, and Mrs. Winifred Flanagan of Metairie; and a brother, Renee Stiegler Jr. of Mobile, Ala. For the past seven years she resided in Jacksonville with her daughter. Mrs. Robin was a founding member of St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church in Baton Rouge and worked for many years for the church. She belonged to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Marie Louise and was a member of the ladies altar society. She was a devoted follower of the Third Order of St. Francis of Assisi. After moving to Florida, Mrs. Guidry became a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Jacksonville Beach. Upon Mrs. Robin's and her husband's retirement, they spent many happy days at their camp, known as "The Second Generation," on Big Alabama in the Atchafalaya Basin. Family and friends will long remember their hospitality. Mr. Eastin obtained his bachelor's degree in zoology from Louisiana State University in 1968 and his bachelor's degree in pharmacy from Northeast Louisiana University School of Pharmacy in 1971. He was a member of the Louisiana State Board of Pharmacy serving as 2nd Vice President, a member of Louisiana Pharmacist Association named "Pharmacist of the Year" in 1998, named the 1998 "Man of the Year" for the Ville Platte Lions Club, served on the advisory board for Louisiana State Charity Hospitals, parish coordinator of Muscular Dystrophy Association 1974 to present, one of the organizers and spokesman for the Tate Cove Hazardous Committee, and on the advisory board of Evangeline Bank & Trust Co. for more than 20 years. Mr. Robert "Bob" L. Eastin was the son of the late Willie and Helen Ardoin Eastin of Ville Platte. He is survived by his wife, the former JoAnne Oge of Ville Platte; a son, Robert L. Msgr. Elmo L. Romagosa, a retired priest of the Archdiocese of New Orleans living in Waveland, Miss. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Ethel May Litton Romagosa, known as "Kizzy" by her family and friends, and his parents. Mr. Romagosa was born on June 2, 1917 in Thibodeaux. He was the son of the late Lawrence Gabriel Romagosa, a native of Lafourche Parish, and the former Lydie Elodie Achee, a native of Labadieville. He served as captain in the U.S. Army from which he was honorably discharged. He graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 1943 and began his medical practice as a "horse and buggy" doctor in Opelousas before becoming a board certified radiologist and later a board certified radiation oncologist. Dr. Romagosa did post graduate work at Tulane University in New Orleans, M.D. Anderson in Houston, the Curie Foundation in Paris. the Royal Marsdon in London, the Christie Hospital in Manchester and the St. Luke's in Dublin. He was the first physician to use penicillin in Louisiana, was the first doctor to use radioactive cobalt in the treatment of cancer in Southwest Louisiana and was the first physician in Acadiana to perform a surgical implant of radioactive cesium. After a distinguished career as a radiation oncologist, Dr. Romagosa retired in 1983. Following his retirement the Romagosa Radiation Oncology Center was named for him. After a short lived retirement, he founded Hospice of Acadiana, where he served as the volunteer medical director for more than 10 years. During his 57 year career, Dr. Romagosa practiced as a general practitioner, a radiologist, a radiation oncologist and a mental health physician. Dr. Romagosa received a number of special honors during his long career. In 1985, President Reagan invited him to the White House where he was honored as an Outstanding Senior Volunteer at a special ceremony held in the Rose Garden. That same year he was named the Humanitarian of the Year by the Louisiana Cattle Festival Association and received the Skip Blair Memorial Award, which was presented by the Mental Health Association of Lafayette. In 1986, Dr. Romagosa was honored as an Acadiana Volunteer Activist at a special ceremony and later that year was selected to be a part of a special U.S. Delegation to the People's Republic of China composed of Specialists in Radiation Oncology. Bishop Harry Flynn honored him in 1989 as an outstanding servant of the poor; in 1992 President Bush named Dr. Romagosa as one of the "2000 Points of Light", giving him special recognition and inviting him to tour Air Force One and in 1998, the Louisiana State Medical Society presented him with the Wyeth- Hearst Award for outstanding community service. Dr. Romagosa was affectionately called "PaPa Buddy" by his grandchildren. He authored a children's novel, La Fitte's Stowaway, for his grandchildren, which was later published and sold to the general public. He was also a syndicated columnist for the "Sunday Advertiser" where his "Medical Essays" appeared for the last fifteen years. In addition to two novels and his "Medical Essays", Dr. Romagosa has authored countless professional papers and has been a frequent lecturer for various community and professional groups. The Rev. Perry Sanders, pastor, will conduct the services. Mr. Knight was born in Tylertown, Miss., and raised in Bogalusa, where he graduated from Bogalusa High School. He died at 1:22 a.m. Sunday, March 14, 1999, in Lafayette General Medical Center. He joined the U.S. Army and served with the 82nd Airborne Division. Mr. Knight was a Veteran of World War II, a great American Paratrooper who made three combat jumps, one at the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged with the rank of Warrant Officer, 1st BN/504, PIR, after ten years of service, having received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals. Following his service years, he moved to New Iberia and has been a resident of Lafayette since 1952. Milton worked for Massart Supply for 25 years and then worked for Lafayette Tire Co. Following his retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, having shot a hole in one, June 5, 1997. He was a former scoutmaster and helped with Boy Scouts for many years. Mr. Knight was a charter member and past president of the Acadiana Chapter of the 82nd Airborne, serving also as trustee and chairman; American Legion, Stanley Martin-Felix Ducrest Post, Lafayette VFW, Order of the Purple Heart, D.A.V., and the Lafayette Civitan Club, of which he was the Civitan of the year 1969. Milton was a devout member of the First Baptist Church, where he was devoted to youth services. Survivors include: his wife of 54 years, the former Rosa Marie Thigpen of Lafayette; two sons and their wives, Wayne Clark and Sarah Rebecca Knight of Orange, Park, Fla., and Milton Gerald and Betsy Knight of Lafayette; two sisters, Georgene Holcombe and Eddie Lee Lavigne, both of Bogalusa; four grandchildren, Jenny Knight, Patrick Knight who also served with 82nd Airborne, Elizabeth Knight and Kenny Knight; and a great-granddaughter, Keelie Rebecca Knight. She was listed in the "Who's Who" of American Educators, worked as a leader for Camp Fire Girls in Lake Charles, assisted with Cub Scout Groups in Lafayette, was a member of Little Theater in Lake Charles, was a choir member of Immaculate Conception Church in Lake Charles, member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 49 years, received "Girl of the Year" award several times, member of Kappa Kappa Iota sorority of Retired School Teachers, member of "Care and Share Group" of study from St. John's Cathedral, member of Catholic Daughters of America Group 305, member of Retired Teachers Group of Louisiana, member of American Association of Retired People, member of Beginning Experience Group week-ends for widows and divorcees, and worked in the area of making book and pamphlet material available at St. John's Cathedral. Dr. Prejean, a life-long resident of Sunset and a native of Carencro, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, in Doctors' Hospital of Opelousas. He was a World War II Army Veteran. Dr. Prejean spent five years in the service and was attached to the Medical Corp. Division. He was discharged from active duty as a Lt. Colonel. He attended Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans and was one of the first to graduate from LSU's Medical School's first full class. Dr. Prejean began his Family Medical Practice in Sunset in 1935. He practiced family medicine until 1959. During that year he went back to New Orleans to the Charity Hospital School of Anesthesiology and finished in 1961. Dr. Prejean then came to Lafayette to begin his Anesthesiologists practice with Dr. Burleigh. He remained in practice there until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the following Associations and Societies: La. State Medical Society; American Medical Association; American Society of Anesthesiologists; Knights of Columbus; past member of the original Sunset Fire Department (Volunteer group); member of the Sunset American Legion and was on staff at Lafayette General Hospital and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. Mr. Landreneau, a resident of Opelousas, died Friday, March 19 at 12:15 p.m. at Lafayette General Hospital following a lengthy illness. Mr. Reiners farmed in this area for 42 years and was a valued member of the rice industry. He was recognized for his numerous contributions to the community, having received the International Rice Farmer of the Year in 1966 and conservationist Farmer of the Year in Louisiana in 1976. He was named Farmer of the Year by the Opelousas Rotary Club in 1976. Other awards include Roberts Cove German Centennial Outstanding Farmer in 1980 and St. Landry Parish Cooperative Extension Service Award in 1991. He was a member of the Roberts Cove German Choir. He was also an accomplished harmonica player. Mr. Reiners served as President of the Bayou Mallet/Plaquemine Gravity Drainage District #10 and as President of the Prairie Ronde Water System. He also served as President of the St. Bridget Parish Council, Chairman of the Louisiana Seed Rice Growers and a member of the St. Landry Farm Bureau Board of Directors.He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. He was active in the American Legion and was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He resumed his life-long trade as a blacksmith and welder with Mr. Bienvenue Stelly at his Blacksmith Shop in Leonville when he returned from the war. Stoute had been employed there for many years before the War. He retired in 1984 after working for many years with the Stelly family who he loved as much as his as own family. Mr. Stoute never married but devoted his life to his family, friends and his work. No one who ever met Mr. Stoute ever forgot him. Pallbearers are Kim A. Kilchrist, Elwood J.
